Fun fact: One of the founding members of The Easybeats was George Young...older brother of Malcolm & Angus Young...founders of AC/DC. George played a major role in their success including producer in their early years!
Funner Fact. George and Harry (the guy at the back and part of the Vander and Young writing/production team) are referenced in Dire Straights "Sultans of Swing".
When I was 13, in 8th grade, I was riding home on the school bus on Friday afternoon and this song came on the radio. We didn't even have to ask, the bus driver cranked it up and the whole bus was singing along!
Friday on my Mind was released in 1966. The Easybeats are an Australian rock group. The song was written by band members George Young and Harry Vanda. The song was a worldwide hit, reaching no. 16 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in May 1967 in the US. In 2001 the song was voted "Best Australian Song" of all time by the Australasian Performing Right Association (APRA).
The lead singer always made me laugh with his happy, excited facial expressions and quirky dance moves. I was born well after the British Invasion but this band made me happy. The lead reminds me a bit of Austin Powers! 😂😂😂
@@CryptikConstruct But didn’t they come around America at the same time? There certainly wasn’t an “Australian Invasion” here in America. Lol. Besides incorrectly classifying them as part of the British Invasion, the rest of my comment still stands. 🤷♀️
Define ‘supergroup’. The first Australian group to be successful in England was The Seekers. They were more Pop/Folk though. I assume that’s what you mean.
Maybe every generation says this but… I love the music I grew up with from the early 60s to the late 70s. It is great when I watch y’alls reaction to the older stuff. Other generations and genres certainly have their place but this goes back to my roots.
You two have just discovered the world's best kept secret our Aussie music. So, enjoy going down that rabbit hole and finding out how good our music is. Enjoy I think you will like it.
The rhythm guitarist George Young is the older brother of Malcolm and Angus Young of AC/DC and along with lead guitarist Harry Vanda produced AC/DC's early albums
Love this tune. "The Easybeats" were an Australian band in the 60s. In Australia they were considered one of the most important Rock acts during the 60s. They enjoyed a level of success that in Australia rivalled The ,Beatles. Read the story about Lead singer Steve Wright in later years. It's awful what rhey did to him (and thousands of others, no doubt) However, that does not take away the greatness of this song, or singer Steve Wright's energy. ❤🎵🎙
Wow that was a flash from the past when I came out here popped up on the a.m. radio top 20 yeah top 20 that’s right that was a gym every time they played it wow what a blast from the past thanks for sharing that great reaction I never saw them I only heard them now I’ve seen them Hurray hurray !!
@@jameshealy8402 Yeah I said I was on it that was really nice I never knew about that band before but those go-go dancers Yeah …sweet…. Thanks for that ruclips.net/video/OqcDG_xLWPY/видео.html
Well it's about time you got to these guys, I loved Stevie Wright's energy and cheek. Have you seen Stevie Wright doing his song Evie, a 3 part love song that really takes you on a journey that ends in tragedy. But what a performance! He was just coming back on the scene, in the 70's, after not completely recovering from drug addiction. Another great song of his that another Aussie band, Rose tattoo covered, was black eyed bruiser, which is heavy but trancey too. Harry Vander, lead guitar and George Young on rhythm, went on to form a duo called flash in the pan, with their song down among the dead men, but they wrote heaps of songs that other artists did, like Grace Jones with walking in the rain and fellow Aussie singer John Paul Young with the world wide hit (on it's 2nd time around) love is in the air. P.S. I think you've seen the Divinyls with Chrissy Amphlet performing an easy beats song I'll make you happy. I love both versions, but if you are going further down the easy beats rabbit hole, you might also like wedding ring and sorry, as well as I'll make you happy.
It all started with the Merseybeat sound early 60s which was Liverpool and surrounding areas of Merseyside. Beatles, Searches , Gerry and the pacemakers, The Merseybeats and many more then it ballooned across UK with other groups and US with the likes of Gary Puckett and The Union Gap and so on
Anyone whose ever tried to follow the chord progressiosn George is doing on this knows how insanely complicated they are - when you listen to the Easybeats especially stuff liek "Sorry" you can hear the elements and foundations of the sound that ended up coming out in his two younger brothers band 10 years later (AC/DC)
I listen to another reaction site that doesn't play many 60"s songs because they think they are too slow and boring. Thanks Guys for putting that vicious rumor to rest.
Never seen three guys with three guitars- welver heard of the you’re infor a treat. Where have you been. EEver heard of the the Beatles, the Rolling Stones- OMG
The Easybeats were an Australian rock band that formed in 1964. "Friday On My Mind" was their biggest hit but they had some other great songs such as "Sorry", "She's So Fine", "Women (Make You Feel Alright)", "Heaven & Hell" etc.
One of the most fun songs ever. Best group from Australia. (BeeGees were born in Britain) Men at Work are great as well. The lead singer was funny. His name was Steven Wright. He dances not unlike Jerry Lewis. There. I just named two comedians. So he had to be funny. Very beatlesque. Sir Paul wishes he wrote that one, I'm sure!!
Loved Easybeats. Little Stevie Wright was charming and adorable. I believe I read that he was only about 16/17 in this film. Sadly, like many other stars of that era, fame brought him drug abuse problems that ruined his life. Another great song is "Good Times".
we have a dj at a Seattle radio station that for years on Friday at 5:00 would kick off the weekend by faithfully playing Friday On My Mind...its become somewhat of a local tradition. no matter how shitty the work week may have been, i would always count on that song to lift my spirits.i'd never seen any of their videos, or read any of their history until recently, but must say it's obvious why people came down with "easy fever" Watching Stevie Wright joyfully belting out the song while dancing around makes it even more unforgettable.
Harry (tall and blond, far right) and George (far left) wrote this. It was a huge hit. But you also ought to look at their brilliant earlier work - "Sorry", "For My Woman", "Wedding Ring"and the songs on "Easy Fever" - ruclips.net/video/Jcy9eJVx-CA/видео.html&start_radio=1
Vanda & Young (part of this group) were like the Lennon/McCartney of Aussie music. Besides their Easybeats hits they wrote songs for John Paul Young (Love is in the Air & Yesterday's Hero) - themselves 'Flash & The Pan' (Hey Saint Peter & Down Among the Deadmen) & the legendary song 'Evie' (Parts 1, 2 & 3) by Stevie Wright - lead-singer for the Easybeats. Sadly in the 70s he was affected by drug issues but this performance was still amazing - ruclips.net/video/lPveBD6WWXc/видео.html
A few more obscure sixties songs include: Kites by Simon Dupree; Jesamine by The Casuals; Eloise by Barry Ryan; Little Arrows by Leapy Lee; and Lady Godiva by Peter & Gordon. All are pure pop of a defining decade.
That's where I discovered this (and several other lesser known but great songs from the early British invasion.) That's actually one of my favorite Bowie albums. Great versions of Yardbirds, Who, and Kinks songs...
Fun fact: One of the founding members of The Easybeats was George Young...older brother of Malcolm & Angus Young...founders of AC/DC. George played a major role in their success including producer in their early years!
Also George and Harry Vanda, the lead guitarist here, are the George and Harry mentioned in Sultans Of Swing.
Funner Fact. George and Harry (the guy at the back and part of the Vander and Young writing/production team) are referenced in Dire Straights "Sultans of Swing".

They were song writing and producing machines. It’s amazing how many songs they had their fingers in.
