Casual fans don't appreciate that Pop genuinely loves his players, even if things don't work out on his team. Telling an entire arena to stop booing his friend is an expression of that love.

Dunno about overrated but certainly over the hill and too stubborn to adapt to a changing league that has moved on from the 90's style "forget about skill, just get the biggest guys you can and let em bang it out in the paint" team and game plan design. Your big strong rim protectors are obsolete against the new speedy wings who exploit fast break opportunities, can space the floor, and whose 3 point scoring efficiency is equal to or better than a 65% 2pt fg percentage. Meanwhile Kawhi is just as over the hill but in his case it's because he just doesn't care and doesn't want to try. It's a terrible shame to see because Kawhi has the talent and ability to be a distant standout superstar.

Takes heart and balls to stand up to a stadium of your own fans who were booing like sheep. Pop could stay resentful of what happened with Kawai and he has more of a reason than any fan in that stadium. Players understand that fans are going to boo and talk a little smack when it comes to their game but no one deserves to be disrespected and berate by anyone nor chastised by someone who is a hypocrite either. Then the playoffs came around and was shocked at how he looked those 2 games? Kawhi has never been the most athletic & has always been robotic in his movements. Nor has he ever been one to rely on his athleticism on either end of the court. He's physical makeup(height, weight, wingspan, strength, HUGE hands) along with his IQ & technique is what makes him Elite defensively. Offensively it's all about getting to his spots which he still does whenever he wants. He just doesnt care about putting up any big numbers individually or even being labeled a "superstar". Kawhi is all about WINNING. Whatevers necessary. I say that to say keep in mind its early in the season & Kawhi knows that the only way they'll win a championship is if they figure out how to play collectively at a high level. He's not really trying to assert himself just yet. He knows the regular season doesnt mean anything. Especially this early. When the time comes for him to turn it up & be the best in the world he'll do it. Like he always does.
