    Tailgate lift: fold over an old seat belt piece or tow strap, remove one of the bolts of the tailgate inside face then run that bolt back through the strap making a loop handle to lift the gate x2.

    Just a FYI... for the slippery center console, I cut a piece of floor carpet large enough to hang over the side and tucked in between the seat and console.. easy to remove if I need access to it.. and my boy doesn't dig his nails if he's standing on it.. and a tent that you can back the truck into so you have a place to sit for those not so sunny days.. makes the truck camping a little more enjoyable.. a pass through window from front to back is also nice..

    Rodney & Camper looking so handsome and healthy!!!❤ interesting build. My 78 Ford Econoline van conversion was designed by my mom and built by stepdad. The kingsize bed folded down from a couch with a table insert. Custom heavy duty foam cushions upolstered in a heavy grey/ white tweed design. The most comfortable bed I've slept on ever!!!❤I had a fridge powered by block of ice. Microwave, sink with water pump, coleman porta potty. I just paid $1.00 a shower at trailer/ rv parks. Back in my day they were like 7 to 12 bucks a night to hook up. I had 110 hook up running from a plug under back bumper. I had full kitchen area and a hot plate. I used a crock pot a lot! Coffee pot, etc. I didn't have cell phone or solar power generators. I used trucker fans and I plugged them into battery jump starters! Kept me and the cat cool. Plus I had an ac that fit in passenger window at night while we camped in really hot states. I could stand cuz we had the fiberglass roof extention.... I lived and traveled in my van for 10 years!!!❤ liked this video a lot!

    Hey Nikki, Can I give you some advice as an expert on offroad power setups?
    Plug your refrigerator and the Jackory power unit into separate 12-volt supplies from the truck during the day then plug the refrigerator into the Jackory at night, when you run the refrigerator off the Jackory while it's charging you are bypassing most of the power straight to the refrigerator and the Jackory will not get a full charge. Brad from Trail Recon had this same setup, his power station would not charge fully, I suggested he do this and it fixed the problem. Love the truck layout by the way.

  • @kajuncourier
    @kajuncourier 21 час назад +5

    Nikki, the center board could be put under one of the large cushions for storage and easy access ( less chance of bird dropping out in Mother nature's creation). Board could also be used as support with center cushion when being used as couch. You could also make a scissor jack table in center in opening. Push it down in lock position when making bed. Long table could come in handy for eating and putting food on side in reachable distance. 66 years old,time on my hands and outside of box thinker. 2 canopy tents may come in handy,1 for back and 1 for door where portable ice chest is ( On this one , I would glue a flap on one side,when stretched out over door on to top of truck with weights holding it in place. It will divert the pouring rain as secondary covering from truck to canopy. Rain & snow is going to happen - some ideas to keep you dry as you camp as best as you can. Doyle.

    You've identified the ultimate off road sleep-in-vehicle set up-- a pickup truck with at least a 6.5 foot bed and a camper shell (also called a Topper, Canopy, etc, depending on where you live). This setup beats all other camping setups such as a rooftop tent because, unlike tents, it is 100% weatherproof, including resistant to wind up to almost small tornado strength. That's what I have, and my wife and I sleep on a queen size mattress atop a simple plywood platform that is built from pieces connected with door hinges where the plywood pieces connect. I can break it down by simply pulling the pins out of hinges and store the whole platform flat in my garage when not in use. I have plywood boards on rollers underneath to store my recovery & camping gear. It's nice to arrive at a remote boondocking location and already have your sleeping quarters set up.

    kent rollins has a good cowboy coffee video, basically you boil your coffee grounds for 5-10 minutes and then when you remove it from the heat you pour in a little cool water, this causes the grounds to sink to the bottom and it makes some really smooth coffee… also it turns out a bit stronger.

    You may want to look into a tarp/shelter/tent to connect to the cab/tailgate area. It could really make bad weather camping much better. Covered space to to cook or hang out directly connected to your sleeping area may reduce the misery index in the shoulder seasons. Great concept and execution.

  • @YakBoss
    @YakBoss 20 часов назад

    It may have already been suggested but I’ll throw it out there. You may want to consider a Hi-rise truck shell for extra headroom (I use a ProTop). A.R.E. has a mid-rise with a pedestrian door. Bel-Air campers has some nice options.
    Consider side and front windows that open up and are screened for cross ventilation, ease of cleaning and accessibility.
    When my wife and I camp with the truck or our Land Cruiser, we use an “suv tent”. It affords use extra space and address the bug issue. If it’s nice out, we leave the back of our chosen vehicle open. If it’s cold, we’ll close the back for extra warmth in a smaller space.
    Re: the tailgate- close it from outside, climb in over the tailgate and close the hatch behind you.

    I swear. right as you began talking about it, I was leaving this comment: Perhaps I missed it but I don't think I did. One thing I would recommend for the truck is a zippable screen (like the van) to keep bugs out from the back hatch. Would be nice for cool weather days.

    Cowboy Coffee, no filter. Just dump it in the hot water and stir, then wait. Most of the coffee will sink to the bottom, you can spoon off what floats. You can pour it in another cup slowly leaving most of the grounds in the old cup, or just drink it slowly and carefully, dumping the last 1/4" of it out. Caution, it's really strong like that.

    Going camping with the camper truck (or a small traller like a Teardrop trailer). From what I saw, I would recommend getting a cover for where you store the stove so that you can put the stove on top of that. (With cutboard up you should have room for the propane can). Another is an extension hose (I got one of those for my tear drop) and you might want to get a table or possibly a tarp (like Slumberjack Roadhouse Tarp) to extend a space where you can sit in the shade.

  • @alaish360

    On the camp stove, the wing flaps have a built in stand up for the wind guard. There are 1/4 inch slots in the stove base and you stick the feet through the slots. You don’t need to wrap the feet around the grill top.

    When I saw you were using the truck I thought it would be with Justin, but makes sense to do a demo run first. Lovely to see Camper going straight into the water. I miss my dog waking me up and also seeing him curled up for the night x

    Something else you might want to consider for your truck is to add mesh screens to the side windoes of your camper shell like what you were saying about the back of the truck. This way you can have good air flow when you sleeep at night to prevent condenesation, especially if its hot.

    I must say you guys did an amazing job on the truck making it camper friendly and I can’t wait to see it when you get it exactly the way you want it like the bug net and something to help you pull up the tailgate from the inside another thing is I love the way your wonderful dogs are adjusting to the truck, but what it really is as long as your there they’re happy because you can see they love you so much oh I wanted to say that area where you were camping is beyond beautiful and you were luck enough to be there in person to soak up all that beauty another thing I wanted to say is the reason I can appreciate your video is your so smart and I learn from you with you coming up with you coming up with great ideas to make camping that much easier also your videos bring back memories of all the camping I did growing, so thanks for sharing your adventures peace ☮️ out ✌️

    Nikki, I so love your videos. After having COVID when it when it first came out , I had to medically retire .My dream was to get a small Van like you live in and a little dog Riding shotgun and travel, until I found out how expensive it was. So I live Vicariously through you, camper and rodney.God bless!

    you could possibly add moters to lift and open that tailgate, just an idea, or a hook with a rope will work good also :)

    I use curtians for my truck cap. The rod is a 1/2 inch dowel rod, and i use 1/2 inch cable clamps to hold the rod, and they screw into the window with the factory screws.

    I’d say the van might be a little more convenient, I see just how much work you have to do for setting up your truck, but either way you win

    Use your jack to level the truck bed if you forgot the leveling blocks. If you have an onboard compressor let air out of the opposite tire.

    For cooking inside the truck I might recommend an induction stove, it would be safer. Also, for bugs, I watched a video about making a mosquito repellent with just water and a few drops of vanilla extract on a sprayer.

    You really need to look into a rear Truck/SUV Rear Hatch Tent/Tarp for Cover over that great pull out Kitchen Space. It also will provide bug coverage, although just a Mesh Netting held in place by some magnets is cheap and works well. I have a Hatch tent for my 05’ Prius for Camp Grounds and it is so worth the Set Up to extend the living space. Love that you are so versatile in showing all these setups! I found a big difference just between my Subaru Forrester and my new old Prius.

    Amazing build out. You could look at a truck cap that has a rear door to make it easier getting in and out.... There are so many options out there to try.

    Not sure if you have thought of this or been told this idea before… but as you visit lots of Amazing destinations, you should make and sell a calendar with pictures of the different locations you visit and have Camper and RV in the pics!! Id buy one for me and my girlfriend for sure!!😊

    That's an awesome camp blanket, Nikki! I hope it sells well for you. While my current financial situation prevents me from participating with this run, I will hopefully be in a better place when you figure out working Rodney into the next one!

    The truck build out looks great. I use a suction cup mount towel holder to close the rear glass on my suburban. You’re welcome! lol
    Also you might consider adding pneumatic struts to your access panels. Helps out a in tight spaces!
    Just sharing quarts worked for me in hopes it might make your experience better.
    Keep on keeping on!
