I have had very good luck using the Hougan brand water soluble coolant.....
and it seems a lot less of a mess than the sulfurized oil you are using....
.Really amazing how fast an annular cutter will cut......
one cool thing about annular cutters is you can drill through plate with no gap under plate
and not drill into what is underneath, as the slug protects the surface
from the cutter, I would not do with a mill, or precision surface though.....
it may make some swirl marks , but you do not need a hole for the slug and
    cutter to drop through.......
I do this with a magnetic drill a lot, drilling small parts that the mag drill will not
hold , by putting the mag drill on a steel plate, then clamping the part to the plate.....
makes a great drill press in the field or even the shop.....
    hope this helps......
    loved the video, Paul

Hey! Happy new year! Nice to see you again. I like these cutters; they're spendy but there's nothing wrong with getting drops that are still useful.

Awesome video! I would get a little fan to blow the smoke away during the cutting.
I have 100's of thin 18 gauge 1" tubing to notch at the end of the tubing. I have been using a 1" endmill (on my mill) that works fine.
Do you think a 1" angular cutter would work better? They are cheaper to replace than end mills when worn out.

Hard to say. If you’re trashing end mills then probably worth considering. The flood coolant is pretty nice and the higher teeth count would be good too.

I wish I found annular cutters sooner. I am just running them on my drill press but it is insane how fast they work. I use cutting wax to save the mess but I and doing a lot smaller work so far.

can you side mill with Annular Cutters?

    • @todayletsbuild2153
      @todayletsbuild2153 Год назад

@@privateprivate3767 they are not intended to side mill. Would probably dull quick and have incorrect profile to chip. I imagine in soft material you could try. But I would expect poor results.

@@todayletsbuild2153 thank you very much for the reply. what would be your advice on milling out a flat bottomed 2"/50.8mm slot
so far I'm thinking to plunge mill with these Annular cutters moving my x axis slightly each time?
I can not find an end mill big enough

@@privateprivate3767 well I know end mills that size are incredibly expensive. I don't have any usable experience to properly answer your question unfortunately and would hate to steer you wrong.

Yes think plunge like you said then clean up with x axis in the end. That is what I would try but could no recommend.

It looks like the hole came out very smooth wall and I didn't see a burr around the top of the hole at least

It was pretty clean edge but sharp. No heat and no galling. These things cut really great.
