I was thinking about doing oil painting but didn't had the motivation. You always post at the right time thank you for being an inspiration to all of us 😊
You are the reason I haven't stopped painting. Whenever I feel lazy I just watch a few seconds or minutes of one of you vids and O get inspired. I actually painted a beach seascape for my sister in oil and I can't go back. Thank you for the inspiration
I began pastel painting a few years ago and am in love with it! There is a lot of value in watching you using oils as well as listening to your commentary with the hope of applying it in pastel. You are very well-spoken and clear in your explanations! Tough to do as you are painting at the same time... plein air to boot! Kudos!
Hello, my friend! It's such a pleasure to see how relaxed and disciplined you are with your awesome work. This is an exceptional seashore painting, and fabulous tutorial that you made look so easy! I would love to see more France or Italy paintings, too! Thanks for sharing!
I enjoyed watching you work quickly and I like very much the vibrant pops of colours on the edges of the rocks, I also really liked the painting when you had finished blocking it in. Great work Michael. Looking forward to your next video 🤩
I’ve just recently discovered you and your work. I really appreciable how you articulate and describe your process; it’s very clear and in the moment, and instructive. The intention and questions you ask yourself have helped me be much more conscious and thoughtful of my painting process. I look forward to each demo you post. I think your work is stunning. Thank you!
This may be one of my favorites of yours. The way my eye sweeps out over the vista and goes way out to the very distant rocks. Pure poetry in motion. Alive! Is there an option to make a one time contribution as opposed to monthly? Trying to keep my monthly charges down. Thanks Michael. I appreciate your art and your guidance. Irwin
Another beautiful painting Michael. I had been wondering about your decision to not use burnt sienna as a starting point, so thank you for the explanation and btw, I've ruined many paintings through overworking them. It is a delicate balancing act.
Thank you for your videos, i learn so much from you, even though my local lanscape is so different in NW Montana. This painting is beautiful, illuminated shadows are one of my fav features in paintings!
Yes, I agree about not toning the canvas so that you can get that transparent luminosity of the white canvas through the oil paint. I too have done watercolors and love their transparency but I’m struggling with opaque oil paints ..
Are you using medium? Medium will help you achieve transparency. Especially if you're using transparent colors. Ultramarine, burnt sienna, alizarin crimson for example. All my darks are transparent. The only opaque colors I use are titanium white and cad yellow medium.
Ice plant is native to South Africa. Per California Fish and game, Ice plant was brought here in the 1900s to stabilize erosion for railroad tracks, then used by Caltrans on roadsides.
Hi Robert, New subscriber and wondering is you also use acrylics? Have you a demo? Really enjoy your oil and watercolor tutorials and hoping that you do same in acrylic. thank you
I want to get into oil, but I’ve only worked with guache and acrylic paint so far and have been a bit annoyed lately that the paint dries up during the process. Could I just use an oil medium to sort of halt that? Oil would be quite an investment for me😊
I have lived in California my whole life, and ice plant has been all over as long as I can recall... I never realized it wasn't native. Looked it up, and it's from South Africa.
@@chamberlainpaintingsYes it is, Michael , feels like the painting has a vast distance beyond the 2nd and 3rd group of rocks ( depth ) . Foreground moving sea and colorful midground rocks. I think this one is destined for the gallery 😎.

Great block-in. Structure is very much like some Monet seascapes. Very Californian Impressionist. Bravo!
Thanks!

A jam-packed tutorial, super educational, very good!! You've really gotten your camera work down.

Nice Painting!!!
Thanks Kerry!
Hi, Michael i notice how your brush and paint slides nicely along the board, would you still be this effective on a canvas or not. Thanks
Yes, the same technique works on canvas. It’s the Liquin medium that allows for fluid paint application.

Hi Michael, Just wondering why you are not toning your panel like you used to. Just curious...
So sorry.... I just finished the video and you (of course) answered my question...
Haha, no problem!
Noticed that too
I want to get into oil, but I’ve only worked with guache and acrylic paint so far and have been a bit annoyed lately that the paint dries up during the process. Could I just use an oil medium to sort of halt that? Oil would be quite an investment for me😊
No, oil medium is for oil paint. You’d need an acrylic medium that slows the drying time.

Interesting! I wonder how it became so ubiquitous in California. Especially in remote coastal areas!
I did mention to you about a year ago old chap….about the sour figs……it’s slowly sinking in@@chamberlainpaintings
Somehow missed it@@IainHirons
