- Mr. Goodpliers heads off to a vintage Chevrolet and Oldsmobile dealer auction at Money Chevrolet in northwest Kansas. Come along and check out 90 years of vintage survivor cars and trucks, collector parts and signs!
A very mature crowd and lots of confused lookers. I have been going to car and other auctions all my life. I hate it when the auctioneer refuses to pull the plug trying for ten minutes to get another buck out of stuff. Thanks for showing the actual auctioning going on. I would imagine the sign sale took quite a while.

Fairbanks Scales is still in business and based in St.Johnsbury Vermont, about 20 miles north of my house. Neat to see one of their signs out there.

That C70 was awesome, I would have purchased that. Lost my dealership of over 65 years last October, nothing was auctioned, sold to new guy. Everything old was dumpstered, glad my salesman gave me a stack of dealership decals. Great vid, thanks for sharing!

I had a 1981 chevy luv . It had a diesel in it.
Those were the two that caught my eye and I woulda bought both if I’d known about this. They both bring back so many memories I can’t tell ya!! I was about 11 or so when the Vega was built and I remember spending several days at the dealerships with mom and dad while they were trying to decide on whether to buy a Vega or a Luv. After several weeks of going back and forth with everything, dad drove home in the Vega. But I spent so much time looking at and sitting in the Luv truck that I fell in luv with it also, lol 😂.
Both are absolutely beautiful examples of two vehicles that very few of have been preserved and it’s so nice to see a couple kept in pristine condition!!

I liked that Vega because it was a one owner low mileage car in mint condition.
Close to the beginning of this video the Parker Brothers game of Dealer's Choice was shown, My mother gave me that same game as a birthday present in 1972, and I still have it today................As for the auction cars and trucks I admired all of them for their condition and low mileage readings. I would have to say my favourite cars there were the Toronados.
That 1967 Chevy 4X4 truly had me wanting that machine real bad, super nice, I love the cab with the small rear window, oh` hell, I love everything about that truck. You would not find another original truck like that, I think it is the only one left.
I remember looking at the cv shafts on a 70s Toronado and thinking to myself they are the biggest I’ve ever seen, wider then my legs.

I’ll take either the ‘52 or ‘58 Chevy or either Toronado. Here in Wisconsin a ‘74 was rusty in two years. I know as one of my coworkers had one!
Thanks for the video ! & IMHO looks like there were some good prices at the auction , & I had to watch the auction being a Chevrolet guy & I currently own 7 of them 64,65,67,99,03,07, & a 08. & I thought the 81 LUV P/U was the best buy.
The triangular bottles of Optikleen went Cheap! (It was about the only “bargain” I saw that day)
The 85 tornado was available with a power roof this one did not have so it did not have ever available option the 67 4x4 is a gem
Had a 83 Toronado, would have bought that one too

the love pick up was a deal as well as the 58 chev 40 & 30 for the pickup's crazy

@@ernielaw All Vega engines were crap. Rust prone bodies too. Vegas had far more gas tank fires than the Ford Pinto as well.
That 77 Vega with 10,000 miles means it’s only on its 3rd factory replacement motor.
By 77 they had opened the drain back holes to allow the oil to get back in the pan quicker and the little engines lasted better. Sleeping the engine worked really well.

The Vega brought back some pleasant? memories-my girlfriend's dad bought her a new '77 Vega-yellow-and I was appointed to teach her to drive with the manual transmission-then I unwisely bought an almost new '77 Astre-it quickly became the "Dis-Astre"-awful car-the relationship didn't last, either-thanks for the cool video!

One thing about those mid 70's and 80's Eldo's and Toro's, a profile look on both from a fair distance away, you couldn't tell which one it was. Same body profile with only grill and tail light changes.

I don't know where to start. I want to keep the post short enough that you will read it but those rigs all have history with me. Like that red tornado that went way cheap. It was fast, not on take off but legs that just didn't quit. I took one that was stock and the speedometer only went to I think one ten in numbers and one more mark for the buck twenty so a cop friend put the radar on it for me and clocked it at one thirty one. That boat was afloat for sure and never ever felt out of control. The 52 got good money as there really is a limit to value or just how bad a person wants it and that fifty eight model truck was way cheap as I guessed in the twenties for sure. Other cars like the vaga.... I guess that guy had deep pockets. i remember hitting a frost hole in the spring one year and it was near new at the time. I was like ten miles from home and knew that it hurt the alignment but got home to find the right front loosing air as I parked It was near two inches out of alignment and my tie rod was so close to snapping off that it would scare you. I bought another one later that had a "Cosby" engine with overhead cams in seventy six... I think that is the year and it was factory with all heavy duty everything but the four speed was the M21 and those were not the best trany. Five bolt lugs as well. Easy to tell engines as the chains that ran the cams on either head was on the outside with plastic shields. I should at all costs kept it. Sadly all my pictures burned in a house fire about damn... back in eighty four or five..been a while. I hope that C70 goes to a good home someday..... I could keep going but your eyes are past tired now so thanks for sharing my old memories to life again

That would have more likely been a "Cosworth" engine. The transmission would have been a Saginaw, if it was a 4-speed. A Borg-Warner, if it was a 5 speed [76 only].

I still have my Dealers Choice game. My mom bought it for me as a gift in 1972.
Don't discount the Luv because it was made by Isuzu, most chevy truck motors (besides duramax) are made by them anyway.
I bet that C70 would pull over 100k at the right auction lol.
That Vega would have sold for a LOT more than it did if it were a Cosworth! But considering the price range was just shy of a Corvette, most were too ‘thrifty’ to splurge for something like that. A 1974 Sprit of America Vega would be a cool collectible!
I purchased a new '74 Vega GT while in high school (probably the most valuable thing I learned that year...in a bad way😁). That said, I don't recall the Spirit of America Vega...will have to look that up.

Watching this proves that nostalgia and automotive history has no place or holds any interest with today’s younger generations. Such a shame because I can guarantee that in fifty to eighty years from now, no one will be getting all excited over any Tesla’s, SMART cars, Priuses(Prii), and at best..may show some interest in the F-150 Lightning (electric).

Congrats and same here as well.. have younger generation family into older and classic vehicles as well, though a couple can’t appreciate their beauty of being all original and take great lengths to modify beyond excess, which to me is pretty sacrilegious!
Kind of surprised the 67 c10 didn't sell at that price. Must have been a hell of a reserve price.

@@brucekoster9253 They were expecting to take in a big pile of money but didn't get as much as they wanted. All the high-value vehicles were kept and not auctioned off. In other words, they got rid of the unwanted crap.

The 81 Chevy LUV I have never seen a 81 before. Looks like. Price not bad I thought. Chevette grill! I would have snapped up the Vega. Love the colour of the 52 Chev deluxe. $16k. What would it cost to take a basket case and restore? The toronados, reasonable if you keep them. The Delray another keeper. 12k, again, if you wanted this model, it is original only once. 58 Chev for $41k, that’s getting up there. Very nice though.
The Vega was the best deal, definitely underpriced. The 52 Chevrolet was a great car, and a definite bargain when weighed against the cost of restoring one!

Nice walkaround! It seems that 'collector value' is now predicated on the number of 'survivors' still existing rather than the inherent quality of the vehicle? Same with electric guitars. Scarcity not quality..

The Vega's engine was a disappointment, It could have been a nice car if it had almost any other engine in it.

I dropped a 327 in mine.
I used valvalean racing oil and a long 1 quart oil filter and had no issues. On my VEGAS.
@@dogandballproductionsgoodb7215 no they had the iron sleeved block. So people could abuse them . And not have problems. They called them dura built.
Yeah many dropped a small block in them or the Buick 3.8 V6 but they are cool cars and that one had a factory posi rear end LOL!! like that 4 banger needed posi LOL!
A lot of neat old stuff there. That 1958 Cameo pickup truck was so cool. Only like 1,140 were built? That's why I've never seen one. Very nice. Are you willing to sell the cigarette lighter, and if so, what are you thinking about a price on it? Shoot, what's the maker or who's the maker of the lighter?

The Vega may have had only 10,000 miles on it but it was probably already blowing oil out of the tailpipe.
I had one new with 35.000 miles no rust no issues. They did not have problems if u did not over heat them. Where's all the factory rust on that car. Let's lay off the group think...

@@chriscatarcio2983 I had a Vega wagon that would oil foul the plugs in just a few hundred miles. I had friends that had them and had the same problem. That's why you never see any of them on the road anymore. They have all been scrapped. Some of the worst engines that were ever put in a car. The only good Vega was the Cosworth Twin Cam.

I'm not sure why Wendy....never really thought about it, cuz I usually see them too late anyhow. I knew about this particular auction in advance & attended with a friend. It was held on Monday, May 31st... Memorial Day, 2021...in Hill City, Ks.

I frequent this particular auctioneer's sales as he is a personal friend but also has some very interesting auctions. Years ago I got a one owner '67 Triumph Spitfire at one of his auctions...under 20k miles. Drove it home, hauled it to another friend who ebay'd it and we collectively made almost $4k in a months time. It's an enjoyable way to pass the time.
btw...he's a busy fella right now....20 unique auctions listed in the next 6 weeks. I'd be happy to look for something if i knew what you liked to buy....but there's nothing like seeing it for yourself.

Can't believe all the time spent showing the same thing twice and then not showing the rarest truck (in original condition). The '58 Chevy Cameo was the start of wide-sides and fancy pickups.

Wrong I seen my share of 55-57 Delray's bud. And try keeping the camera on the window stickers and descriptions longer so we don't have to keep pausing to read.
a little history, you said that 58 was the only delray chevy, wrong, they made them in 55, 56, 57, 58 5, 6,, and 7 were above the 210 and below the bealair, 58 the delray was under the 150 or bottom of the line
The Delray replaced the 150 in 1958 to become base model. It was also last year for the Delray. I believe that Delray had existed as a sub series in the BelAir line in 1956 and 57.
