  • This video is a tutorial of how I mix and apply henna and indigo to cover my gray. I apply the henna and indigo in one step, and have utilized this process for more than a year, with great results. In addition to coloring the gray, henna's benefits include healthier, strengthened hair. I have not seen any loosening of my curl pattern.
    I purchase my henna and indigo from this site: www.butters-n-b...
    Henna used in the video: Organic Rajisthani Henna (BAQ)

    Here's a tip: when applying henna start with a small section in the middle of your head and put that into a Bantu knot then take sections around that and work your way outwards and keep wrapping them around that first middle section. You'll prevent mess on your clothes and skin and makes for an easier application 🙂 this is the only way I apply my henna now

    You blessed me with this video. I was scared but tried it and it changed everything!
    You’re the first one that I saw 👀 doing this in one step. Now everyone is saying one step.

    This video was exactly what I was looking for. I used pure henna and dark brown henna for the first time last week to lighten my hair and for gray coverage. The results were less than stellar with the gray coverage because the pure henna turned my gray strands copper. After watching this, I'll add lemon juice to the indigo to bind the color. Thank you for this video.

    Great video! I am a 65 year old Italian male who hennas! I like mixing them, equal parts the indigo and henna, it gives a nice dark reddish brown that goes with olive and darker skin tones! Curly Nikki has a few recipes for refreshing henna between coloring that works great for me!

    I have henna on my hair as I type, and I thought I'd share some observations / tips . . This is the 3rd time I've tried a henna application. During the previous times I always wondered why my henna paste did not come out a pretty brown color like KimCashTate's or Whitney's. . .I followed directions step by step, using a glass bowl, covering with plastic wrap, etc - -and lettin sit the prerequisite hours. . THIS time, I decided to develop the henna paste in a glass canning jar, the type with the metal clamp, to make extra sure air did not reach the paste, and it made ALL THE DIFFERENCE . . The next morning, the paste developed into a beautiful brown, and the orange tint was much more evident. . If you don't have those type of jars, a plastic zip lock (the double ziplock kind) will work equally as well I'm sure. .

      Haha actually henna can be mixed in any vessel. In India where most of the commercial henna powders come from, we don't use glass. Oxidization or air won't affect dye expression. We never cover our henna mix, we mix it in any stainless steel or iron vessel or even plastic. You just have to keep it warm enough.

      🤔. I use (nb)Ziploc bags from start to finish cause im LAZY(1 cap of 🍎 acv added to body art quality w/fine sift and high dye content henna and 1 .oz of honey) 😁 it works tho.
      Overnight freeze and 🍎 acv works great for dye release. 💚use on dirty hair. Ty for the 📹

    Years ago I used henna but stopped when the red turned orange. Just today I decided to check it out again and now they use indigo with the henna so I'm off to the beauty supply to get some. Tired of using dye. Think it gets absorbed in our body and isn't healthy so hope Henna works great. You put it on your head like I used to...gloves, grab some and smoosh...looks wonderful and your hair is gorgeous.

    I use amla with the henna as the acidic component. I also took a plastic dye bottle and cut the tip to a wider opening to apply. Worked great. Thanks for your video!

      @HoneeyBee3 5 лет назад

      I know this comment is a year old but hopefully you still respond. Does the amla and indigo give good results?? I dont want to use henna because it turns the hair brownish red. I wish I could use the indigo powder alone. I'm trying to get as close to jet black naturally without using box dye.

  • @lacodasparty3439
    @lacodasparty3439 8 лет назад +10

    I tried this method for the 1st time today. I brewed black & cardamon tea, about 8 oz of tea water, & lemon juice along with a hint of Alma hair oil so it's not so drying to my hair. I did mix them both in the same bowl at the same time. I only let it sit for about 1 hr. I washed my hair as I always have with prior henna application, let it kinda air dry.....this way it's not as messy when the setting takes place due to the wet hair. I applied the plastic wrap & caps...... let it sit on my hair for about 2.5 hrs.
    I love the results so much better than henna alone. I do like the red tones from just the henna, but the indigo tones it down a bit. All my grey is in the front hairline, so the red will not be so shocking & look so wild when the grey starts to grow back....I hope......lol
    I will see the final result in about 48 hrs.
    I'm glad I remembered watching this earlier last yr. I've been using henna for about 2.5 yrs now.
    Now I have a new method thanks to you Henna & Indigo.
    Thank you kimcashtate. Stay Blessed

    I Oil my hair before applying henna as it really helps to maintain hair quality …..since you use a conditioner... it helps I guess ….and I rinse it only with water after 5-6hours of application and I use shampoo only a day after the henna application ...Very Well Done Video !!!! Can u please explain how you mix henna and coconut milk together ?

    • @HennaSooq
      @HennaSooq 5 лет назад +5

      @@mariouma21 it's generally really easy. Just get your henna in a bowl and you can add a little warm water to start it and get dye releasing really well. Then slowly add enough coconut milk in it until you get a nice smooth paste. It's a nice conditoning and straightening treatment but you may not get as strong as a color since the henna is being diluted.

      Don’t waste your money on indigo if you don’t want black hair. Just use the henna and mix it with tea and definitely wash your hair before, never use henna or indigo on dirty hair the colour want stick the same. Take it from someone who’s whole country ( Sudan) use this methods for centuries. We also grow some of the best henna in the world.

    Thank you Sister for your perfect instructions! It is a one of kind video, that you did the henna and indigo on yourself, so that we can the how it actually looks when finished. Now I understand and will give it a try. Normally I use the pre-made Brown Henna, but it is not always easy to find and they say it has chemicals in it. I was afraid to do this, because I don't want the orange-red colour.

    That color is really beautiful on you.I have a lot of gray hair. I decided to only use 1 step as my hair gets too dark on the ends with 2 step, so whatever it turns out that's the color I'll have! It will be ok if it's a little red. I once left henna on my head overnight and I had a reaction of intense itching and a lot of my hair fell out.I'll never do that again. I have no problem if it's on less than 3-4 hours. Thanks for a good video.

    Finally someone who applies their henna on hair that is NOT freshly washed! I do the same and shampoo (sulphate and yarn/kanekalon box braids to boot YUP!). I have been employing this method since late march 2018 (when I grew .4 in of hair to grip and braid) when I decided to grow (last buzz to bald was mid dec 2017) my hair back from a buzz cut (summer/fall 2017 colors of the rainbow bleached and fun). I stay braided (DIY ONLY) and removed my braids for one week as we had a serious heatwave that had me undoing those long kanekalon braids QUICK! My hair is full, thick from root to tip and growing beautifully! I will stay protective styled (braids) 98% of the year until early mid 2019! My hair is DEF 4 inches or more and doing so well!!! I wash weekly, moisturize daily, use my virgin hair fertilizer daily and henna every 2 to 3 weeks! Currently in some short yarn braids and loving them! Lovely hair sis!!!

    I haven't tried it in one step, I do the henna first, which turns my greys bright orange, then I follow with the indigo which makes all my hair very black, I don't put oil or condition for a couple of days because it takes some colour out a little, I find this method lasts for months on me.

    Other videos say to let the henna mix sit for 8-12 hours before use?? Not necessary?

      @The Light no it will give a darker hue of the henna color.
      If you need black color. You should apply henna leave it for thirty minutes rinse it and then apply indigo powder mixed with only water. Keep it for 40 minutes. And rinse it. I apply henna on day one. And the indigo ppwder on day two or day three.
      Mixing both the henna and Indigo powder does not work.
      Indigo powder is the dry powder of indigo plant. Till date it is used as a natural dye for fabrics.
      If you try it please leave me a note.

    Use a large tablecloth from your local Dollar Store as a tarp. It's cheap, simple and large enough to protect your area from henna stains. Toss it when you're done.

      Would this help in reversing grey hair or its just a natural colouring process and have no effect in helping it turn back to original colour?

    • @TiffanyJonesLotusLEDW
      @TiffanyJonesLotusLEDW 5 лет назад +1

      No it doesn't reverse grey hair. It's just a natural coloring process. No harsh chemicals and it covers grey hair 100%, unlike most boxed coloring kits. @@shahrozalix4

    You're lucky to be able to do it two in one because in greys are really resisting that won't work you'll have to do it as a two-step process. The lemon juice definitely is up works for some people not the majority of people and usually when you color the hair with him as they tell you not to use lemon juice or coconut milk or anything else like that just use distilled water or green tea. But if it works for you that's great. Okay now that I finished the end of the video it makes sense you're not trying to do your hair jet black that's why you can get away with that you're doing reddish brown. Got it

    After you added the indigo to the henna, how many more hours did you let it sit? Love your video! Your hair is beautiful. Glad to know I can do a one step process instead of two.

    I didn't read the other reviews first so pardon me if I am asking a question someone else already asked. You stated that you used bobby pins overnight. I have read that henna should not come into contact with metal. Did you have plastic bobby pins? Also, if I want my hair darker, do I use more of the indigo in proportion to the henna? I figured longer wouldn't do it since you left yours on overnight and it still had red sparks.

    You mentioned it has been two months since you colored with henna. Is that how long it last? If so, I am definitely in to trying this method. I find the store bought non-henna products only last two weeks for me especially if I was my hair with shampoo & conditioner 3x a week. I appreciate this tutorial. Cannot wait to try it.
