- The Tudor Court Hotel was one of the favourite dance locations for this era of Emu, and so it proves again in this routine - a medley of Don't Take Away the Music (originally by Tavares) and Everybody Dance (by Chic). First broadcast on Emu's Wide World on 8th May 1987.
Many thanks to Lindsay for lending me this tape.
(Please remember that this is an off-air VHS recording, so don't go expecting 1080p HD quality. I'm fairly certain that this video isn't commercially available, and I've uploaded it for its historic interest only. That said, if you are a copyright holder and object, please don't hesitate to contact me.)
omg I love the colorful outfit! 0:36 the 80s had the coolest clothes :(
Agree!!
I wish I lived in the 80s it looked fun
Rod: “And that’s going to be part of the show, I can hear the music.”
Don't take away the music
It's the only thing I've got
It's my piece of the rock
Don't take away the music
Everything else is gone
Don't strip my world of this song
Everybody dance, do-do-do
Clap your hands, clap your hands
Everybody dance, do-do-do
Clap your hands, clap you hands
Music never lets you down
Puts a smile on your face
Any time, anyplace
Dancing helps relieve the pain
Soothes your mind, makes you happy again
Don't take away the music
It's the only thing I've got
It's my piece of the rock
Don't take away the music
Everything else is gone
Don't strip my world of this song
Don't take my music
Don't take my music
Don't take my music
Don't take my music
Don't take away the music
Everything else is gone
Don't strip my world of this song
Don’t take it away!
the quality of these is just fantastic
Gonna be honest here, the 1987 routines are probably my favorites.
The later years are definitely unfairly overlooked - they did some great routines!
Another one of those lift/flip thinges they'd never show in a kids' TV timeslot anymore at 1:17
lol i was thinking the same.. i'm surprised the choreographer would work that into a kids routine.. admittedly daryl was probably the most skilled of the boys of this era, but still seems risky..
Just for extra danger, let's do the same move in front of a live audience: ruclips.net/video/fhinfeZGeeU/видео.html
The hotel scenes in this reminds me of the "Work Your Body" medley from the 1986 series!
They did quite a few there, e.g.:

Too many to mention. I hope the episode with the Work Your Body one you mention comes to light soon, as we don't have that...
VideotapeFTW I hope so too! The low quality version just isn't cutting it for me, even though I love it so much :(
VideotapeFTW Also in this video they do a mashup of Tavares' "Don't Take Away The Music" and Chic's "Everybody Dance" :)
Now you mention it, there's probably enough of both songs to call this a medley. Now updated. :-)
these kids have clearly lost all defence mechanisms and can no longer stop people from stopping the music, they have resulted to planting subliminal messages in our brains by begging us not to take it from them in song
Now _that's_ a plot twist!
In these cover versions of these songs, the Oberheim DMX claps were heard.
Can't Stop The Music 2
Omg yes
oh no
1:44 my favorite part
I wish I was in the 80s, though I would probably be in a different country
I wonder if Nile Rodgers has seen that segway into Rod Hull singing Chic's 'everybody dance' - it's the most unlikely cover version...
1:01 Why do singers never rhyme the word “again” properly? ☻
I don’t know how to do this correctly but at around 1:40 who is that girl
That's an upside-down Sarah.
Thanks
