Emu's Pink Windmill Kids: Greased Lightnin'

- This is one of those Pink Windmill Kids renditions that stuck in my mind for years until I rediscovered it - a cracking routine from the 8th December 1987 episode of Emu's Wide World. Slightly odd juxtaposition of lyrics versus location, it has to be said. I wonder if the Top Knot hair salon is still going strong or (no pun intended) not.
As if you didn't know, this song is called Greased Lightnin' and it was first heard in the film Grease. I'm fairly certain that the phrase "pretty wagon" doesn't feature in the original version...
Many thanks to Lindsay for lending me this tape.
(Please remember that this is an off-air VHS recording, so don't go expecting 1080p HD quality. I'm fairly certain that this video isn't commercially available, and I've uploaded it for its historic interest only. That said, if you are a copyright holder and object, please don't hesitate to contact me.)
1:19 _Pretty_ wagon. I was wondering how they’d handle that lyric. ☻
Love those petticoats!
Believe it or not, I've actually heard the original version played on another kids' show - "wagon" line fully intact!
I was actually going to comment on the actual lyrics until I read your own comment! Are you sure the other kids show wasn't Mini Pops? Wouldn't put it past them!
Don't get me started on the Mini Pops! If anyone ever tries to tell me that the Pink Windmill Kids were overly sexualised or something, I point them in that direction. The Emu dances are positively innocent and classy in comparison!
I searched Mini Pops kids hoping it was a 90s or a rival to this. Listened to their advert for 10 seconds. No. No. No. No. No. Horrible. Don't do anything to it. Just let the music play and don't edit their voices. #NotMad
JakeTV I don't know which Mini Pops you watched as there are quite a few, but we were referring to the 80’s version on Channel 4. Have you seen this? A six-year-old singing about sex? ruclips.net/video/fh7NxD9fTGM/видео.html
1:50 look to cassie, looks like stephanie's hair (lazy town) lol
Sooo true 😂😂
Omg yessss that was my fave show foo :)
@@spencersfanpage I hated Lazy Town, it freaked me out, but my cousins made me watch it whenever we visited them :/
the new meme. I will not sleep until it's real.
Here's hoping!
Have you slept yet?
have u slept now?
Have you slept yet?
It’s been 4 years, have you slept???
So to be one of these kids you had to be good at singing, dancing, sports, and gymnastics. At least thats what I got after watching a few of these.
Swimming, skiing, skating... they could do the lot!
1:48 “shit i don’t have a line, i’ll just stare into the camera!”
Ffyyyh
Kelly seems to have grown rapidly between '86 and '87.
Topknot Hair and Beauty is still in Nottingham. They bill themselves as "one of the oldest and largest salons in Nottingham."
Oh i want to visit
The choreography is so creative
I remember watching this (when I first started getting into the PWKs) and not recognizing anyone, even though Abbie was in it lol
It took me a while to click that Abbie and Cassie were sisters.
Same with turn up the music,I was like who are these kids and I realised after a week that a few of them were there before but they just looked quite different
This is when the acid hit xD
everyone asks where's tammy
no one asks where's gianni
I've watched this a million times and never noticed that! Good point, well made.
Was Tammy trying to one-up Claire with that wig? It looked fine on her, by the way. Also, I like the 50s vibe of this one, and the hairdressers never looked so cool.
If you make it a little bit short and blonde is Antony's hair btw I think rod had his hair in the end 1:53
0:47 He's like "Oh Shit"
the red hair for claire fits well 0-0
is it wrong that i prefer this version to the version from the movie
The beginning will hurt your ears, head phone wearers.
I’m just now realizing that cassie doesn’t have anyone to dance with in the beginning so she just stands there and claps her hands hahaha
I'm not seeing joe... am I just missing him or is he actually not there?
He left after the 1986 series - this one's from 1987.
*Me vibing*
Claire doesn't need a wig 😄
@@mubadubelubyn yeah~ Claire's hairstyle is so beautiful 👍
They’re oddly excited for the hairdressers
Did I see one of the sprouce twins?!
In 1987? Probably not.
VideotapeFTW Lmao oh yea 😂 that was a stupid question 😂 it was like 2am when I wrote this. The boy at 0:51 sure looks like one of them tho.
0:11 who's the guy in green on the right?
That's Daryl, who was on the show for the three series covering 1986/7.
1:26 did anybody here a lady like shouting or idk
Imagine if they kept the original lyrics
I have to confess I'm slightly disappointed they didn't, but it was probably for the best. :-)
Did you know that odd ball john sang that song in the 70's with Sha Na Na as the band and back up singers in the Grease Soundtrack. If you think that i am wrong then type in the search bar carl wayne and grease.
That's an amazing find! It's actually not the original Grease soundtrack, but a remake from the 90s with Michaela Strachan: www.discogs.com/Carl-Wayne-Michaela-Strachan-Songs-From-Grease/release/14940712
This is life-changing information! :-)
@@VideotapeFTWthe song sandy for the movie was written by Scott Wilson.
@@VideotapeFTW it would be awesome if Carl Wayne perform it with the pink windmill kids
0:49 who’s next to Cassie?
In the chair? Never thought about that before. Kelly, Abbie and Nick are the only Kids not otherwise in the scene, and I don't think it's any of them (or Rod), so my money's on it being an actual customer. I wonder if they got paid a performance fee...
Could someone please confirm if at 1:48 the PWK with the blue wig, next to Sarah is Abbie and the PWK at 1:51 with red wig next to Tammy is Claire? Also where is Danny in the end? I cannot find him. Or He is not in the last scene at 1:51 at all?
I don’t see Danny in that final scene, but Abbie is the one in the blue wig, and Claire is the one in the red wig. ✨
@@mubadubelubyn Thank You very much! ❤️
@@mubadubelubyn Either Cassie's sprouted another arm right at the end, or that's Danny hidden behind her.
Who’s the guy with the blue jacket on? He has a Y on it.
That's Nick: www.imdb.com/name/nm0991979/
Glee 25 years before glee
Where is Spencer?
He left after the 1985 series, I'm afraid. This one's from 1987.
VideotapeFTW Oh alright
1:49
Abbie
what does gianni say
At 1:09? "A Palomino dashboard and dual-muffler twins, oh yeah." This may be helpful: www.newlinetheatre.com/greaseglossary.html :-)
