I don't like the idea of Zurg losing his own autonomy, his own motives and actions. It's basically Savitar/Future Flash from The Flash and even it had a great idea but fell flat in execution becoming muddled and confusing. Just a twist Villain because Pixar *HAD TO HAVE ONE BECAUSE*
Ok, but a old self VS young self is actually more intriguing than a "Ey kid, I'm your father (ahaha, nice reference, I'm so cool and funny), now let's fight each other". Imagine fighting a future you and somehow the actual you wins (physically or just by changing the future you point of view about things). I'm not defending the movie, just sharing my preference between "Father VS Son" and "You VS Future You"
@@MGavin thank you for reminding me of that movie, it's still in the "must watch" list, I'll probably watch it later today now that you've mentioned it 😄
I want a sequel, it has so much potential and I believe it is a better Star Wars movie than the sequel trilogy. My main problem is I'd prefer if Buzz had a son, He could grow up to be Zurg, Keeping the father-son relationship people wanted.
I think the real Zurg might be the rookies future grand son, taking Revenge on Older Buzz not just for stealing his ship but for making a mockery of his family.
Going into Lightyear, I didn’t expect any elements from BLoSC in here. I love that series, but I knew very early on when it was announced that this would be more grittier and mature than Star Command, and that aspect I really appreciated. My dad especially thought something more serious was the way to go.
Thanks for keeping me hype for the future of Lightyear, Chris! & You right about those green aliens, I was hype to see them in a new realistic design but hopefully next time.
0:01-0:13 The opening intro is the lol of Sunday’s Father’s Day 😂😂😂😂😂, but honestly literally can’t help of my hype for the hype would help to bring confidence of hope for some future spin offs and sequels that can hopefully have more kick ass pg action.
I saw this movie yesterday and once I saw that plot twist I immediately thought of the second Lego Movie where they did something similar with Present and Future Emmet but I really like how Lightyear did this idea better with including his motives we knew about from the beginning of the movie.
Finally watching this video after seeing the Disney plus release. This movie was straight up wonderful I mean the animation was spic and span and beautiful and the story was great as well. If there was one downside I would say the ending was rounded up pretty fast and I was like "what it's over?"
Something tells me that it's gonna be like an Encanto situation where during it's time in theatres people won't really care about it, and when it's gonna be on Disney + is gonna blew up. I'm telling you.
Welcome back to the Multiverse !!! As you know the last time we were here peter had lost his identity and strange almost had no control over the multiverse
I really loved Zurg in this movie. The future buzz thing sorta got me by surprise cause like everyone else I expected him to be his father. If they do manage to make another sequel I hope one if his lines would be "So we meet again Buzz Lightyear, for the last time" like he says in Toy Story 2
Ok, I was just watching lightyear on Disney plus, and I noticed something, a little bit a background first, in every/most Pixar movies they add an Easter egg hinting to the next Pixar movie coming out, and I found the one in lightyear, so, when the character Mo is getting a “Meat Sandwich” from the vending machine, below him is water branded “Wades Waters” or something like that and it has a little character on it that looks pretty darn similar to Wade from the concept are for Pixar’s new movie coming out called “Elementals”, so yea, I just wanted to point that out.
I enjoyed this film, I say it did good enough to get a sequel. The one thing I hate is how most people are really acting like a kiss between two characters in the pride community is such a big deal that they cut it out for theaters because they supposedly didn't want children seeing that type of influence.
Disney doesn’t care, they cut it out of Chinese and middle eastern audiences. If they wanna make a statement they should stick to their guns, they only do this to get people to blindly defend the movie outside of its actual merits. The only issue I personally have with it (besides the aforementioned way Disney abuses this) is that this moment would NOT be in a 1995 kids movie to inspire Andy. Like it just was not the culture then, and it doesn’t help that even by modern standards it’s kind of shoehorned.
It's just stupid to me just because of that ONE scene people just don't want to take their kids to see it and I'm only in to woman. But it just ticks me off a bit because it. But I enjoyed the film and hope more people see it because of Buzz Lightyear.
Your point about this being just "another interpretation of Buzz", and comparing that to Batman actually highlights WHY a lot of people (myself included) were majorly let down by what they did with Zurg. Had this actually just been a re-interpretation of Buzz lightyear and all of his world's elements, then that would be fine, but the movie openly tells us at the start that this is THE movie that the stuff seen in Toy Story was inspired by. The different versions of Batman aren't meant to be connected to each other, but Lightyear is actively TRYING to connect itself to Toy Story. This was the movie that made Andy want that Buzz toy; therefore this was also the movie that Buzz's entire toyline was inspired by. Which then makes people annoyed that they didn't stick to what was established in the Toy Story movies. Because while, yes, the "I am your father" line was just a Star Wars reference... it's still canon. The Buzz that fights Zurg in that scene, as well as Zurg himself, are both still in the "not realizing they're a toy" phase, so Zurg believes he is the ACTUAL Evil Emperor Zurg, who's giving this revelation to Buzz, and Buzz believes he's the ACTUAL Space Ranger hero who's hearing this. And Buzz immediately believes it. Yes, it's just furthering the Star Wars joke, but again Buzz still believes he's the ACTUAL Buzz, so for him to immediately believe it, is proof that it's an actual element of the Buzz Lightyear mythos. That's why people are annoyed, because Lightyear simultaneously wants to be faithful to what was in Toy Story, but also chooses to ignore it when it's inconvenient to the movie they want to make. And nowhere is that showcased better than with Zurg. Even in his design; they chose to keep the eyes, mouth and horns, but decided to change his legs and ditch his cape. Which then makes you wonder why on Earth toy manufacturers within the Toy Story universe would bother making a Zurg toy that looks and acts completely different to what was in that super-popular Buzz Lightyear movie. Had they just made this be a Buzz Lightyear inspired movie, I don't think people would've minded nearly as much. It's the fact they chose to make this THE movie that inspired the Buzz and Zurg we see in Toy Story that has people annoyed with the direction they went in. I'm glad you at least liked it, and sorry if this comes off hostile, just thought I'd give a bit more explanation as to why people aren't liking the direction they took Zurg.
THANK YOU! SOMEONE IS FINALLY BRINGING THIS UP IN THEIR REVIEW!! I've been dropping this theory in every Lightyear Review I see! Someone else made that suit, robots and ship.
Another thing to point out is that the Zurg in this movie is only called “Zurg” not EMPEROR Zurg. As he would go by a regal title as heard from Toy Story and the cartoon both. So, if we get to see the real EMPEROR Zurg. He would look more like his original style with a few touched up details to modernize his look. What also baffled me is the fact the bots mistaked the older Buzz for Zurg, which would imply that Emperor Zurg at one point was human, but not Buzz. And, no, probably not his father either. Or there could have been an alien that look humanoid.
I really really really liked the movie! So disappointed that it's not doing good at the box office. Zurg being future Buzz was great and I hope we get the sequel because the movie was just that good and definitely set some unanswered plot points that could get answered in the sequel. On a side note, did anyone feel like Buzz looked like Tom Cruise? My first thought after seeing him without his suit was damn Tom Cruise is a busy guy.
I think it's under performing because everyones realised that it will eventually be on disney plus so I think they're just waiting for it to hit the platform.
Recently watched it in theaters and the film was great...except for the bit that Zurg was the future version of Buzz. That was confusing and not the worst twist villain, it's still bad. Maybe the real zurg maybe out there somewhere, I mean who invented those robots and that iconic zurg suit in the first place. And found this film kinda better than Toy story 4
The cartoon was far superior. This movie obviously wanted to just focus on Buzz’s character and his working relationships, at the cost of world-building and consistency with previously established lore regarding Star Command and Zurg. I doubt we’ll see a sequel.
I just love it when people argue about the zurg twist contradicting established lore but then compare the new movie to the old cartoon while completely forgetting the scene in said cartoon where they do the exact same thing
Perfectly sums up my thoughts...Buzz initially saying "Dad?" when he sees his future self was all I needed in reference to the joke in Toy Story 2, and there is definitely a _real_ Zurg out there...
I think this is a good example of the Disney+ effect. Just look at Encanto (yes we were still under the concern of COVID) but Encanto didn't do that great in theaters, and then blew up on Disney+
I know I'm about to get alot of burn from this, but I think the same thing happened with Eternals as well. It definitely wasn't as big as it was made up to be, but as soon as it hit Disney+ it definitely picked up a bit more than it did in theaters.
@@navioner I didn't care much for Encanto either. I avoided watching it for a while because I am not a fan of Lin Manuel Miranda's writing style. And when it ended I was just like....that was it?
@@BabyGirlTiny saying "nobody" wanted it could be said about any other movie. It's a movie no one expected them to make, and when they did I wanted to see it. The representation certainly drove the viral Disney+ attention Encanto got. But in my opinion Lightyear is a better movie than Encanto. Sure Lightyear is not going to get the amount of attention Encanto did, but it will certainly get more attention than it has gotten in theaters. It's the idea that more people are likely to give the movie a shot at home. Encanto didn't really catch on until it went to Disney+, that's my point.
I think the downfall is that Toy Story just isn't that popular anymore. A lot of us are Andy now. We grew up. We put our toys (mostly) away. The last time I had anything to do with Toy Story was a few years ago, when it was a World in Kingdom Hearts 3, and that was less about the characters and more about the world for most people.
Since the old Buzz traveled centuries into the future, and the humans who were stranded were already starting to work on a new Space Rangers program. Maybe that ship is part of the future space ranger from centuries in the future. And the alien writing is just how the language evolved. idk.
This movie almost made me cry with the one scene of buzz's best friend die'ing in the hospital I was at tears at most importantly I really enjoyed this movie so worth the wait others will say it's a failure cause it had some "certain scenes in it with the 2 couples" but over all it blew my mind and zurg was scary I kid you not at most importantly I loved the story and the twist it brought the amount of adventure and what not felt out of this world I would watch this movie again if I had a chance
I think the whole, "I am your father" was meant to be a sketch, comedy sketch. At the time for kids we were like WHAT?! 😳 But now as an adult looking back I fall back 2 what I said, it seemed like a comedy sketch looking back 23 yrs ago don't know i may talking nonsense, but also also i Can't be alone on a Woody's roundup solo anyone, no? Okay.
I really hope they give it another shot and do the sequel. I feel like its one of those movies that will get better when the story expands and everything makes sense
3:32 - 3:48 wait didn’t the first Incredibles movie ended with a cliffhanger and that’s was like 2 decades age so this isn’t the first Pixar movie to have a set up
My favorite line from this movie is when Zurg is attached to buzz lightyear’s ship at the end ends zurg says “buzz lightyear mission log” implying that he still sees himself as buzz. And then when he shows how deep his philosophy goes it really adds a lot of meaning to the classic zurg phrase “prepare to die” old buzz has only now accepted that he is going to be a murderer and fully embraced zurg, that’s when young buzz basically calls him out on that like “not today zurg” because he’s not buzz anymore. I think that zurg is real I just think that we only saw him for like 4 seconds of the movie.
I just finished watching the movie and immediately went here after to see what you thought about it. Before Zurg’s reveal I had the theory that it was Buzz from the future but I didn’t really go with that but I left that option open. When it happened I was excited just to know that one of my theories were right. Before watching the movie I thought it was an origin on the actual person Buzz Lightyear was based on. But at the beginning of the movie it says Andy got the Buzz action figure after watching a movie about Buzz. Then it says that this was that movie. I don’t know if everyone else caught that. They probably have. But I thought that was interesting.
I believe people should get over the fact about Chris Evan’s voice. If they put the original actor. The voice will sound older and more raspy compared to the original voice.
With the movie ending with Buzz and his new crew going off on their next mission, it only feels like now they're heading in a familiar direction of the star command cartoon. The space rangers finally set up the galactic alliance, and Buzz is heading out to find a nearby solar system rightfully called gamma quadrant sector 4. I had the assumption that their intent was to find alien life out there with the hopes of converting this said alien race to their newly established federation, just like the alien diversity in the star command cartoon. PS I think this movie was shown in theaters for the initial reason that Pixar intended this movie to have a cinamtic theatrical feel, like if we're Andy watching the movie in his universe. And I can imagine there IS a father who grew up with Buzz lightyear or maybe they have a child who is a Buzz lightyear fan, and maybe they actually do want to see an animated buzz lightyear movie for father's day. I'm always speaking out for the minority here. They also deserve to be heard.
Even if Lightyear doesn’t end up making as much of a splash as Pixar’s other films, I hope the team had a wonderful time working on it. I don’t care how it goes with the public, I just hope the crew is proud with their hard work.
Thank You For Watching!

I'm so happy you brought this up because I thought I was the only one who caught on to the fact all the Zurg bots, equipment, AND the ship were already existing before future Buzz discovered and remodeled everything! Thank you so much bro, now I'm finally at peace knowing that this little key idea is put out there for everyone to acknowledge. 😭👍
LOVE THE INTROS AND LOVE U. YOU ARE MY FAVORITE RUclipsR 3C FILMS
One thing I think we can all agree on is Chris Evans voicing Buzz Lightyear was an absolute delight! If I didn’t know that wasn’t Tim Allen voicing Buzz I would have been shocked! He sounds amazing!
Nope. I can't stand Hollywood pretty boy. Calling all the toy story fans idiots. Tim Allen is Buzz Lightyear.
@@I_WANT_MY_SLAW He called homophobes idiots tho
I actually really loved this movie! The twist with Zurg being a different Buzz was actually really creative and the way they explained it made sense to me.
I enjoyed it a whole lot, and Sox...... I'm 1000000000% getting the Flocked Funko Pop of him once I go to my local mall
same people who hate this film hate it cause it doesn't follow the cartoon it's it own thing lol .
People.hate it because its forced lesbian family scene takes all the innocence out of the film....now all of us are trying to 3xplain to our kids why 2 women got.married when that is not something parents appreciate as we don't want to be forced to discuss such things. We don't want woke shit forced on us by woke agendas. Plain and simple.
@Anthony Leonard say it louder to the people in the back! Because these sheep refuse to hear the truth.
@@anthonyleonard285 And I love the film as I’m not a parent
I just saw it earlier and I thought this was amazing.
I really enjoyed this movie, it’s was sad I went to the opening night and there wasn’t much people there but over all this movie is awesome and makes you see why Andy wanted buzz
Same I went opening night the movie was amazing
@@phasehotdog503 I really loved the movie it makes since as to why Andy would want a Buzz Lightyear action figure but for some reason people just don’t understand movies anymore
@@dylandevlin2102 Yep people just don’t get movies anymore
I'm not defending the movie, just sharing my preference between "Father VS Son" and "You VS Future You"
Well said
Exactly. All the people complaining about it not being the father thing are just nostalgia ridden 90s kids.
The Lego Movie 2, you want to watch The Lego Movie 2
@@MGavin thank you for reminding me of that movie, it's still in the "must watch" list, I'll probably watch it later today now that you've mentioned it 😄
I want a sequel, it has so much potential and I believe it is a better Star Wars movie than the sequel trilogy. My main problem is I'd prefer if Buzz had a son, He could grow up to be Zurg, Keeping the father-son relationship people wanted.
Nah too messy
i think they should had gone for the big hero 6 villain route.
Saw this movie with the kids and going back for the 2nd time with them as we all enjoyed it.
0:01-0:13 The opening intro is the lol of Sunday’s Father’s Day 😂😂😂😂😂, but honestly literally can’t help of my hype for the hype would help to bring confidence of hope for some future spin offs and sequels that can hopefully have more kick ass pg action.
I really want a sequel. Me and my dad absolutely loved this movie!
I saw this movie yesterday and once I saw that plot twist I immediately thought of the second Lego Movie where they did something similar with Present and Future Emmet but I really like how Lightyear did this idea better with including his motives we knew about from the beginning of the movie.
I absolutely loved Lightyear. It was such a dose of nostalgia for me. I hope they make a sequel.
I feel like Disney and Pixar need an intervention about twist villains
Top gun is still hitting hard, i saw lightyear on Friday and it was half full, i saw top gun Saturday and it was sold out
I really do hope there's a sequel or spinoff series I enjoyed the movie. I had nostalgia feels like crazy
Finally watching this video after seeing the Disney plus release. This movie was straight up wonderful I mean the animation was spic and span and beautiful and the story was great as well. If there was one downside I would say the ending was rounded up pretty fast and I was like "what it's over?"
That intro was hilarious!
Also Maury was cancelled after 25 years of being on the air.
Love 3c films so much thank you for making me laugh
The Twist about zurg was insane I like it
I really loved Zurg in this movie. The future buzz thing sorta got me by surprise cause like everyone else I expected him to be his father. If they do manage to make another sequel I hope one if his lines would be "So we meet again Buzz Lightyear, for the last time" like he says in Toy Story 2
That line wouldn’t make sense because they never met
@@BabyGirlTiny yea but in the post credit scene it was shown Zurg was still alive so it could potentially be possible
It was obvious to me the second he went after the crystal. Only Buzz knew what the crystal was and why it was important.
I just finished watching lightyear it was amazing in my opinion and I’m looking forward to a sequel
0:36, "Under-performing?"
Based on some of the clips I've seen, this looks like alot of fun to watch.
Remember the sins of Sodom.....
I'm glad I found this comment, it's exactly what I was thinking
That cringtro made my day
Lightyear was AMAZING. Great video.
“ Was that meant for me in case I got out of line! i bought you 5 minutes.” Killed me! 😂😂
Hilarious intro 😂😂😂😂😂😂
THANK YOU!
SOMEONE IS FINALLY BRINGING THIS UP IN THEIR REVIEW!!
I've been dropping this theory in every Lightyear Review I see!
Someone else made that suit, robots and ship.
I'm in the theater right now waiting for the last credit cookies. You were right, I want a Sox robot.
Nobody gonna talk about how Lightyear is just the “Future Flash” storyline from the New 52 Flash comics?
The real Zurg is actually somewhere out there because old Buzz said that everything in the ship is borrowed
lmaaaoooo that intro has me so done dude 😂😂😭😭😭
When I think of Zorg and the father story line. I never took it as a legit story plot but a Star Wars joke.
My boy Chris looks freaking fresh in this video!
Film Theory never dissapoints
Dead-On, Chris! As usual!
I personally hated Encanto, I can only stomach so much singing. They sang like every 10 minutes and overall was a badly written story if you ask me.
@@navioner I didn't care much for Encanto either. I avoided watching it for a while because I am not a fan of Lin Manuel Miranda's writing style. And when it ended I was just like....that was it?
Depends. Encanto did a lot for it’s representation and music. What does lightyear have besides a toy story movie nobody actually wanted
Encanto didn't really catch on until it went to Disney+, that's my point.
it would explain zurgs hate for buzz since buzz stole his equipment
I think the downfall is that Toy Story just isn't that popular anymore. A lot of us are Andy now. We grew up. We put our toys (mostly) away. The last time I had anything to do with Toy Story was a few years ago, when it was a World in Kingdom Hearts 3, and that was less about the characters and more about the world for most people.
I love when zurg show himself then buzz were like "dad?" 😂
Since the old Buzz traveled centuries into the future, and the humans who were stranded were already starting to work on a new Space Rangers program. Maybe that ship is part of the future space ranger from centuries in the future. And the alien writing is just how the language evolved. idk.
I really liked the design of Zurg
This movie almost made me cry with the one scene of buzz's best friend die'ing in the hospital I was at tears at most importantly I really enjoyed this movie so worth the wait others will say it's a failure cause it had some "certain scenes in it with the 2 couples" but over all it blew my mind and zurg was scary I kid you not at most importantly I loved the story and the twist it brought the amount of adventure and what not felt out of this world I would watch this movie again if I had a chance
That was legit tragic.
7:29 I like how the back of his head says “Look Here,” so I guess he still has “Zurg Vision”
Chris: that one joke was said like 15 years ago
Reality: 23 years
I felt old when I was editing and had to look up how long ago it actually was
@@3CFilms I’m only 16 and it makes me feel old man 💀💀💀
I believe people should get over the fact about Chris Evan’s voice. If they put the original actor. The voice will sound older and more raspy compared to the original voice.
I didn’t even think about that after watching the movie, but u r right. Good job
I really want to see this there’s just not enough hours in a day
I enjoyed it a lot! And I really liked what they did with Zurg there.
Disney needs to hire you to write the next light year. Your idea sounds great.
When I first watched the twist I was miserable. Until I realized he stole his crazy alien tech from someone…
I was busy at the time. I will probably watch it the weekend.
Even the show made a i am your father joke with zurg saying sike immediately after that
I love how when buzz first saw zurg unmasked he calls him dad lmao
So damn refreshing to here some positivity towards this film. Great takes, with you 100% on this.
I’m glad they didn’t go with the father twist because that would have felt weird lol.
Good video Chrin also Lightyear is going to be good
Even if Lightyear doesn’t end up making as much of a splash as Pixar’s other films, I hope the team had a wonderful time working on it. I don’t care how it goes with the public, I just hope the crew is proud with their hard work.
I love this video!!!! It all makes sense!!
I added Toy Story to my Star Wars collection because of this
Lightyear is a social experiment by Disney to reaffirm Disney+ is the way to sell Disney content direct to audience.
I swear, if I don't get a light year sequel I'm going to have a severe case of depression
Said twist is such a ripoff! The Lego Movie 2 did that “evil future you” twist a lot better.
