"Ich habe keine Lust (zu)..." is yet another genius play on words in German, if translated. It can mean "I have no desire", or "I have no lust" (in the sexual meaning), but in everyday German it is even used as "I don't feel like (doing that and that)". Lyrically I think all three meanings are presented in the song. And the video. The bit in the video where Till is in the stretch car watching the girls make out in front of him and he's like "Yeah, whatever", really points out the meaning of the song for me: that desire, and lust, and even sex drive, are driving forces in our human existence, and that without it we are lost. We can either "count the flies" lying on our death bed, as individuals or as a species. Or just embrace that we as humans have certain desires. And again, I think this song might also have something to do with depression, where you just don't see the pleasure of desire/lust anymore in your life. Just some thoughts of a Christian and a pastor, who happens to be a Rammstein fan.
As a song about depression it is very helpful. The song's energy contrasts with the lyrics: lyrics get you in the empathy/Einfühlung mood, so you don't dismiss it, while the energy in music flows into you, charges your exhausted battery. The video adds to it: the "fat" musicians actually have some desires and joys left, they enjoy each other's company and especially making music together. And their joy is so contagious that Flake (who represents the lyrical "I") overcomes his fear of "big animals" and joins them with healing effect. Yes, in the end he is ignored by the others -- but he stands on his legs.
It is a video that I have revisited quite a lot since we recorded. It is a wonderful example of the multi faceted nature of what they craft. At face value we have the visual of people who have lived to excess that have lost all the widely considered human desires. The more you watch the more you equate the message to the wider human condition. Our mind state that can be impacted by things such as depression and what that can do to widely considered norms. The video has grown and grown on me.
@@MikeTyukanov excellent point about that juxtaposition of the energy of the music with the message of the song. It is increasingly moving up my my favourite song on the album list. The video beautifully enhances the whole package.
Hell9 there There is an official making of video with subtitles. Hilarious plus you get to see them out of character. I have the same take regarding the meaning of the lyrics. I remember when the video was released and broadcast on MTV (when MTV still was a music channel) I laughed so hard. With love from Germany 😎 🤘🏻
@@PopCultureProductions they always go all-in for their art. For Rosenrot they whipped themselves till they had bloody marks on their backs. Till got scars for Mein Herz brennt (Piano Version) and a hole through his left cheek for a light in his mouth in Ich tu dir weh.
That video is so hilarious, I love it! ❤ Rammstein rocking really hard in those fatsuits, everything - as usual - brought to the perfection, so that if I didn't know they're not fat I would believe it 😅 Have a great day! Looking forward to see next reactions! 😊
Thanks for the support. The more I've watched the video the more it has drawn me in beyond that initial visual shock of the guys in the fat suits. So much depth to this one.
@@PopCultureProductions I found the video on the RUclips channel of "oshilan". It has the title Rammstein - Keine Lust (uncensored) US versions of other video I don't know. PS: Actually, the Rammstein videos are pretty America-unfriendly lately. There are just too many nipples shown.😄

Will pick this making of up. I have noticed a few of them out there on RUclips so looking forward to digging in now the album is done.
They played it live at the german music award show Echo in 2005 wearing these fatsuits. There's a video of the performance on RUclips.
Imagine how hot that must have been in the suits, on an awards stage under all those lights. Hats off to them for doing it.

@@CavHDeu we will be recording our reactions to the Rosenrot album later this month. I can't wait.
on top of that live show, their "elaborate" speeches for their 2 Echos they got that year are also a sight to see ;)

There is a US version of the video with flamethrowers and women and bikinis. When Till sings, " I'm cold" these girls heat him up.
Will have to track it down. Are there any more US versions I should know about?
