I can imagine how they must have felt in the eastern part of Germany, when hearing west radio. It must been similar to what I've felt on the western side, when hearing Ostrock (Eastgerman Rockmusic). At the time I grew up, there was nearly no rockmusic in german language in the western part. It started just with Udo Lindenberg ! Before there was only lalala and bavarian shit. In the DDR there were Pudhys, Karussel, Karat and other interesting bands. Unfortunately I only could hear them, when were on holiday near the border. It was the same on both sides of the wall. Two different planets rockmusically.

I think they did a 4th music video of the song "Zeig Dich" but it remains unreleased. I believe the band thought the music video wasnt good enough for their standards, so they never released it. Their newest album does have 5 music videos

Great reaction! All the six Rammstein members grew up in East Germany( and me too), and this song brings exactly the feeling I had as a teenager listening forbidden radio stations. Greetings from Germany

Hello. I'm from Germany so allowe me to give you some thoughts from someone who was born here. First of all, the first time I watched the video I was shocked and deeply moved. The song/video takes a very deep look into our German souls and how a lot of us feel about our country. It's a love-hate relationship. The video is loaded with tons of symbols, that as a German you catch onto. Let's start: in the intro you see Germania (personification of Germany) during roman/ germanic tribes time. It starts with the Armenius and the battle in the Teutoburger woods. The red lazer represents the "red thread" of the story/history. Astronauts from the future bringing Germania in a glass coffin (snow-white) so she can lead through the/her German history. You see a submarine in the hangar. Next you observe the twenties (Weimar Republic). The prison scene representing the rough, violent times especially for the majority of the population struggling to survive. Money raining down/ the great depression. And Germany's first attempt as a democratic state. In between Germania is dressed in knight's armor awing her knights/band with the Lazarus spear. Next Germania is pushed in a wheelchair by the band through the Berlin Holocaust Memorial with burning bodies. (Imagine the statue of liberty being shown like that. Sorry couldn't come up with an equivalent image of Britania). Next vignette the office scene showing east Germany and west Germany reunited (1990). Then you're being taken back to mideveal times, monks/ church are feasting off of Germania in the 30years war, which was a Religionskrieg In most scenes you'll see some church man involved. No coincidence. The concentration camp scene in the background you see V2 rockets ignition. The inmates are wearing different types of stars on their chests and a sign on the gallows reads: no photos. Germania wears an eye-patch first on her left, than on her right eye. Than a quick shot of Germania dressed modern with lots of gold leading German shepherds, representing Germany's wealth. The 60/70's scene shows the RAF extremists holding Germania/ Germany hostage (peak time was "the German Autumn" 1977). On one of the columns on the left, you see an actual wanted poster of the terrorists. The tank scene with the Marx bust represents the uprising of June 1953 in the GDR, which was bloodily suppressed by the USSR army. Next vignette is the witch burnings shifting to the book burning. If you have a close look, at minute 4:45 you see a church man holding up a cross hugging a Nazi, symbolising the churches over all position to the horrific events happening during 1933-1945. The birth scene. Taking place in Valhalla. Germany is giving birth to dogs respectively "Leonberger" a breed preferred by Kings and Queens. The breed almost went extinct during WW1 and WW2. A cardinal/ Constitutional judge (dressed in red) helping a new Germany being born. At minute 5:50 you see the riots against refugees homes in the 90's in Hoyerswerda. Molotovs are being thrown and a car is being pushed over with the help of a man dressed in Nazi uniform. Than the scenes/ time vignettes start shifting faster and faster, showing how many times, when circumstances becoming too extreme everything is falling apart and Germania ( dressed in knight's) armor is crying. The outro is the piano version of the song "Sonne" which completes how we feel thinking of our past: a sense of sadness. To sum it up: Germany has a long, wild, violent, unique history, because we as a state of today have only existed since 1990. Yet the roots go back a very long time. "Young and yet so old" I hope that helped a little to understand the video and with that us Germans. We don't have a strong feeling of patriotism, but a strong sense of unity, represented by our language. With from Germany

Rammstein chose a black german actress to give a finger to the extreme right. - Germania wakes up the dead Teutonic knights, a christian military order involved in the Crusades - Reunification of east and west germany, they all hug each other and it turns to an orgy - German immigrants in the 1920's, fighting illegal, deadly fights to make a living - Crooks in prison, devaluated money flying everywhere: the Wall Street crash of 1929 - The clergy feasting like pigs on the body of Germania while the common people starved (Middle Ages) - Far left terrorists of the Baader-Meinhof Group (Red Army Fraction) kidnapping Germania and killig people - V2 rockets taking off, the first ever ballistic missiles invented by german scientist Wehrner Von Braun, who later became an US citizen and is the father of the Apollo lunar rockets, the Saturn 5. - Prisoners of concentration camps during the holocaust, Germania is now wearing a nazi uniform. Later, the prisoners revolt and shoot the nazis. - Germania gives birth to Leonberger puppies, these dogs are typical of Germany but went almost extinct: the Nation is being reborn as a democracy - And much more stuff I didn't see or was unable to understand.

This song has a deep impact on many germans as it somehow describes the very complicated relation to our fatherland. Many references from all time-periods are hidden in the video. I think, it´s a masterpiece.

Hello. The piano version of ‘Sonne’ is available on the 2015 album ‘Klavier’ which, as the name suggests, contains covers of Rammstein songs played on the piano. In fact, the last couple of times I have seen Rammstein the piano duo responsible has been the support act, opening with ‘Sonne’. They also appear mid set to perform the crowd singalong version (with band members) of ‘Engel’ on the ‘B’ stage.

The red beam is very suggestive of the "Rote Faden" (the expression for a "throughline" of any story, iirc originating with Ariadnes red string of fate in Greek Mythology) This video is a behemoth for analysis - and one with a plethora of hourlong videos on YT trying to disect everything or just certain layers of it. The beauty of it is through YT reactions we have such a variety of perspectives and applicable parallels for and from people from all over the world, noticing a details here or there in a very different but still very fitting way.
