Yes, I can explain why Israel and Australia participate, but just look it up.
You expect all 40 songs to sound the same, sort of like Croatia?
European culture? Italy was totally Italian this year f.i.

Australia is in for somewhat complicated reasons.
Firstly, there are huge 1st, 2nd and 3rd generation immigrant populations in Australia. For example, more Greeks in Melbourne than in any city outside of Athens is a quasi-stat that is often quoted.
Secondly, Australia still has mostly free-to-air TV and has two major public broadcasters one of which, SBS, focuses on catering to migrant populations, from broadcasting movies and TV shows in languages other than English, broadcasting news services from around the world on TV and radio to providing translating services. SBS has broadcast Eurovision for many years and it has been very popular in Australia for a long time.
Thirdly, it's very common in Australia for someone of a particular heritage to connect with that heritage through supporting their national teams in sports Australia isn't good at (football aka soccer being a very common example) or in other ways, cultural activities, clubs and other groups. The competitive nature of Eurovision gives people another way to connect with their heritage which makes it popular.
Lastly, the reputation Eurovision has for spotlighting really weird and wonderful stuff gets people watching.
All of this, I assume, makes Australia a lucrative market for Eurovision, I've seen a poll that showed that 90% of Australians were aware of Eurovision while only 75% of Italians were and that 36% of Australians had watched it at least once vs 34% of Italians. At the end of the day it's probably a money thing.

It’s good to know France still least tries to hold on to their cultural values.

Yeah, that was great, to hear an american perspective of the ESC, strange enough though!
Let me start with two answers to Your questions: Australia is in the ESC because of an old Lady from there, a Radio DJ, who was extremely into ESC Music right from the start! And to honour this big love for Europe Australia was invited to join in a few years ago.
And Israel is related to Europe, even the European Football Association UEFA, because the Arab Countries, where they would belong instead, refused to play with Israel!
I agree with You in many ways - the Australian band was ok, the Swedish should never have won, terrible yelling all the time, the Germans have gone bonkers and all Nations should follow the obligation to use their own languages. I don't agree with You on Croatia, that was maybe a burlesk number but no popsong, and the Finland chacha sounded like the music at 'Oktoberfest' in Munich. All in all : well done, it was great fun, see You soon again!

if you can’t appreciate an amazing pop ballad with an amazing vocalist but instead prefer a bunch of old men making a fool of themselves on stage that’s a you problem

i’m so sorry but i simply will never understand why y’all prefer weird horrible wacky shit over amazing pop music with great vocals, nice lyrics and amazing production. israel, cyprus and sweden were all absolutely amazing from all points of view objectively and way better than bullshit such as croatia and finland in terms of vocals, staging, artistry and everything else. i can respect different opinions, but when you start putting distasteful shit over objectively good music i won’t buy it anymore

America does pop better than anyone else. Y'all do weird and quirky better. Simple.
