Personaly i think the polestar is not cheap, but it is a very good car
It could be cheap, and it is VERY well optioned at its base form.
By calling it “cheap” he is also calling a Porsche “a normal price car” 😂😂😂
@@Iroastcoffee it is 37k Euro with 450km of range. What other EV with that range is cheaper? An MG 5 which people say is cheap is 32k Euro with 400km of range. So yes, the PS2 is cheap and a Porsche Taycan is not normal priced, I’ve never said that 🙈
@@KrisRifa it's not because there is non cheaper, that the Polestar 2 is cheap. 2 different things. Besides, in Belgium it costs at least 45.900 euro's.
That is more than a normal yearly wage, everything but cheap
but the Polstar 2 is a really nice car, I tested it 2 months ago
"Cheap EV"? Chris, come on, I know you own a Porsche, but how would you call, I don't know, a Peugeot e-208, Renault Zoe eller MG ZS EV then? 😉 But I agree that Polestar is the best and a great value for money, no doubt 😁
It's really cheap if you earn 100.000 euros per year.
Zoe is 27k, e-208 is 28k and MG ZS is 32k, so yes there are all cheaper than the PS2 at 37k. Considering that the PS2 chargers faster, has more range and is bigger it is still a cheap EV for what it offers. I don’t think many people are cross shopping Zoe’s and PS2s though.
@@KrisRifa I went from thinking "Dacia Spring" (as 2nd car) to Peugeot e-2008 as a "compromise" to buying a PS2 standard with no extras, except tow bar, because it still does "everything" our old car could. So some weird cross shopping does occur with EV's.
@@KrisRifa You don't have to factor in British government taxes in Norway the Gov pays you to buy EVs. In the UK you must add £10K in various taxes on any EV above £35K.
It's about the same price as a Model 3, but a better car IMO.
In this summer, Polestar began selling cars in Portugal (and Spain) and a LR single motor it will cost less 10.000 aprox. Compare to a Tesla model 3LR.
Waiting for my Dual Motor Polestar 2 to deliver in 3 weeks!! after multiple test drives of P2 and Model 3 I decided on this because of a few advantages over mode 3:
1. While model 3 LR is a fraction of a second faster 0-60, P2 dual motor has a stronger initial kick (I suspect 0-30 is faster than Mode 3), so it’s acceleration actually feels stronger and it is hence more fun to driver
2. Better suspension and quieter drive
3. Hatchback trunk with factory built-in foot kick open feature
4. Factory option for a nicely retractable tow bar/hitch receiver (with a button)
5. Data connectivity plan is included for 3 years
6. In the US is still qualified for the $7500 tax credit
I test drove Tesla M3 and Polestar 2 on the same day. I currently drive a Subaru legacy 3.6. 6-cylinder car. I really enjoyed getting back to my Subaru after Tesla. But really didn't want to go back to my Subaru after PS2! :)
After getting an XC40 Recharge P8, we're waiting for the delivery of the Polestar 2 single-motor due to its lower price point. Two amazing vehicles.
I own an ID.4 and a Tesla Model 3. My brother and I rented a Polestar 2 last week while visiting LA, California. Frankly, I was impressed. The car's Google-based software made me feel right at home while navigating the streets of LA. The car is fast enough, (the rental had the sports package), COMFORTABLE and silent! My only complaint with the car is that the interior feels claustrophobic. The center console is high and not well sorted out. Frankly, minor issues. The materials in the interior are actually very, very nice! I believe that if you are looking at EVs, this should be on your test-drive list. Kris, spot-on review!
Hi, it is not about which car is cheaper or has better performance, it is mostly about how long does it take to get your car deliverd 😀
Good things are worth waiting for. That said, Polestar can deliver cars quickly.
Have had our magnesium, plus, pilot for a little less than a week. Amazing drive. Love one pedal and got used to it right away. Storage is awful as is common in a Volvo but it’s a car not a house so that’s fine. Thanks for the reviews! You helped a lot in my decision to buy a Polestar 2.
It's relatively affordable if you get the single motor version and no optional packs. In Canada, where I live, in long and harsh winter with lots of snow, ice, and freezing temperatures - both dual motor (awd) and plus pack are a must. So this makes it less lucrative.
Thanks Kris for that video. A couple of months ago my Porsche dealer called me and said that the matrix lights are not available any more. Since this feature is important to me I just canceled the order of the Taycan CT and ordered a Polestar 2! Thanks to the reviews You made it was an easy choice! Delivery should be in the beginning of May in Bergen. I am so excited already :)
Awesome mate! Though the PS2 is no Taycan, I still think you are going to be very happy! And you will save a bunch of money 🤩
Pixel lights are also not available for 2023 Polestar and Volvo. Unless you buy something prebuilt ready for delivery right now.
@@ulf5738 I did! :) The shortage hit Porsche first. So I was able to order my PS2 with the Pixel Lights. It's already built and I am just waiting for receiving a date to pick it up. Lucky me I guess.
Hey Kris, I could NOT agree with you more. The infotainment system is by far the best I've experienced, and blows away my former Tesla model Y in both ease of use and functionality. Also light years ahead of my ioniq 5 in terms of infotainment. Again, I agree that the car is stunning to look at. Even after 2 months of ownership I can't help but look back at it every time I walk away. It truly is an incredibly satisfying car to drive.
Thanks for your reviews.
Greetings from Polestar hometown, Great video, have the P2, thanks to you. The P2 is an awesome drivers car. Keep it up!
Greetings from Charleston SC? I want this car but I’m trying to research where to order it from. I actually like the Polestar 3 SUV better.
Kris, Polestar 2 is like a Tudor watch - you get Rolex quality with normal car price and you can actually get new one from a store, unlike a Rolex 😉
True! That was a much better analogy 🤩😊
Nice video Kris. I live in the US and would strongly consider a Polestar or a Volvo Recharge for that matter (my last car was an XC 40), but I do a fair amount of road tripping, and the non-Tesla charging network in the US is still awful. Not enough DC fast chargers and the ones that exist are often broken. The Tesla supercharger network plus the efficiency of Teslas make them the best option in the US if you road trip a lot, IMO. Once the charging network gets built out, I would certainly consider switching from my Model 3 LR to a Volvo/Polestar.
I'm happy with my Polestar, but it is about 1.5 times more expensive than any car in my family. I guess Belgium standards are a little lower than Norwegian. Anyway happy I will be driving it for years. Except for the Audi S2 and Saab 93 Vigen I've never seen a more beautiful car. Thanks for the interesting videos.
More to buy but less to maintain. Doesn't cover all the difference but I spent $1,500AUD on my ICE car for a service plus repairs yesterday
@@SS-yw7vo True enough, spending about 1000 Euro less in fuel too. Even more once my solar panels are installed.
@@rsergeant2 I think you can drive an EV longwr than an ICE too. I'll want to off load my ICE at 75K
Really enjoy your videos. Thanks!
Thanks a lot! I really appreciate it 🤩😊
We ended up in a position where we decided to replace two cars. Living near Tahoe, we needed a ski transport for us and the family. One Chrysler Pacifica Pinnacle AWD later (probably not a relevant car for this review but pretty awesome!) and I ended up in the market for a pure EV. I drove a lot of them and was pleasantly surprised by the depth of talent available. That said, I now proudly own a Polestar 2 with all 3 packages. To me, it is the cheapest expensive car from what I drove and really reminds me of a WRX STI that I had. The Tesla's drove like appliances. The BMW I4 was very impressive but had a wait time and I always suspected it would feel a compromise as I knew the M50 existed. With a longer wait time. The Polestar 2 seemed to sit in the middle. Its that good. The ID4 was plain boring and frankly I wasn't prepared to pay $60k for a Hyundai or Kia. Great cars but felt lower end. It doesn't hurt that there are only 3 Polestars in my city and that mine is the only one with the performance pack! I have asked the Marin space to keep it that way bit I suspect they won't agree.
'cheap' is subjective.
But now driving the ps2 LRSM for 4 months and honestly, very happy with it.
Only switching between LIM en Cruise while driving is a pain... Hope they update it you don't need the screen for it.
I saw a blue Taycan Cross Turismo, and two minutes later I saw a blue Taycan. I immediately thought of you lol.
Hahaha 😂
These are incredibly well built cars compared to other EV’s. Can hardly wait for mine!
Great video Kris as always
Drove a new C Class estate with all the toys and then test drove a PS2 non PP. The merc felt cheap. The PS2 felt as well built as a BMW, maybe even better.
They've kept it cheap since the referesh. Just came back online in Germany, and only €800 more, but the "standard" colour is now magnesium, which used to cost €1000 extra. I bet their sales start to grow very quickly in Europe now. Mine comes in August.
In Norway heatpump is a must and that will cost you 4000 € exstra and then it is not any longer “cheap”.
I don't think it is essential for most people. Most people buying an entry level Polestar 2 are going to be folk who live in Oslo, Bergen, Stavanger/Sandnes, Trondheim etc. These cars will 99% of the time be used for driving in the city. And I think a completely base PS2 will be more than enough for most.
I had a Ampera-e as a taxi in Oslo. In the summer I managed 450 km without any problems. In the winter I managed 260 km. With e-Niro and now Ioniq 5, I have never been under 370 km in the winter. In the summer over 500 km. I borrowed a Polestar 2 in desember 2020 from imove and I managed 280 km. A year after Soul Ev managed 360 km on the same distance. But Polestar 2 has the best info screen.
Heatpump is overrated in the cold. VW even paid a refund to ID.4 owners because the heatpump did not make that much of a difference as estimated. I own 2 EV,one with heatpump and one without. The difference in consumption in -10C and colder is not that much..
Cheap? Entry Level? Starts from €49,500 here for the very base model which make it neither cheap nor entry lvl
The base PS2 (69 kWh) is 369000 NOK (38500 euro) in Norway, same price as VW ID.3 Pro Limited 58 kWh. Either the ID.3 is expensive or PS2 is cheap.
When it s full specs it a really pleasant daily car , plus and pilot pack(north America we still have pixel lights) worth it and leather make fill it much premium
For those claiming it is not cheap, Kris lives in Norway where there are no taxes on EVs, and compared to other options like ID 3 or even Model 3 it is now a lot cheaper to buy a PS2 in most configurations than other EVs. Your markets may be different.
It's funny, how the Polestar 2's price is almost double here in Denmark compared to it's Norwegian price
In normal use in Norway varmepumpe is must have in P2? Or its not that big thing. Because I heard that if there is like - 10 - 15 - 20 that varmepumpe can take same power to work. But if there is like 0-10 its pros. How it is??
I wouldn’t call it cheap but it is probably the cheapest expensive car. If I could stretch to the base model with no extras I would buy one tomorrow. Just had a look in autocar and the cheapest is a nearly new one at about £48000, all the others are over£50k including a two year old. prices new start from £40,700. In reality it’s all relative, an MG EV would be a step up for me from my petrol Corsa>I might try for a midway price and buy a Kia Soul, not everyone likes the look but they do come with everything added as standard
Great video. Did you mention the hatchback, or did I missed that? In my mind a big advantage over Tesla M3. Wondering how you compare with BMW i4 40but don’t think you have driven the i4 yet.
You do such a great job when you talk about EVs by the way. I think you take the role is the ev king by the way.
Thank you so much!
Oh, you know your watch brands too! 👍😉
Yes, I am huge watch nerd 😂🙈
Well then that's two of us @@KrisRifa.😉
What sort of range can you expect from a Polestar 2 SM SR without the Plus pack and heat pump? My own absolute minimum requirement would be 250km year round.
too bad efficiency because of lack of technology but its design is the best in the market
Kris have you had any dangerous situations with one-pedal and wet/snowy roads, where letting of the throttle, the breaking can trigger the car to skid ?
Nope, never had any situations with one pedal driving 😊
That is such a Norwegian statement, haha! The Polestar 2 is insanely expensive and out of range for 99% of the Worlds population.
Eh it’s affordable according to most EVs and the problem with EVs isn’t the price. It’s that they can’t make enough.
@@chidorirasenganz It's affordable compared to other EVs, but not compared to other cars. For a third of the baseprice it'd be cheap.
I'm currently waiting on mine, I also wouldn't consider 68k for car cheap
@@CheesusCrustus the base model is 47k in the US which is also the average price of a new car in the US
@@chidorirasenganz that doesn't make it any less money.
47k may be the average price for a new car, but it's still a lot of money and certainly not cheap.
Think how much the average American would need to work, to put ~50k aside
@@CheesusCrustus I never said a new car was cheap or thats what most people buy. I was talking about the msrp. You can get stuff dirt cheap that cost a fortune new. That doesn’t mean it was cheap when it first was released
does the infotainmentsystem come with google play services (or similar) for harvesting personal data?
I love the PS2 but you are really losing touch Kris if you think it is cheap!
369 000NOK for the standard range.Good value for the money atleast.
That’s what I thought…
depends who you ask, i dont think its cheap, for no options you dont get much not even a heat pump which should be standard, you have to get the $4k plus pack which brings a car way up. efficiency is not good on this car. , range is very poor, so no its not cheap.
Yeah especially since the base model 3 has LFP and a heat pump
@@chidorirasenganz correct.while polestar is compelling it's just not as compelling as model 3 plus where I am at can't even get it
I am past 150 Mile range
2:00 ... That's a lot of solar glare off the instrument panel ... Is it coming through the pano glass roof? I could see how that would be a problem while driving...
Which one is comfortabler and quieter on highway in cabin noise? This one or Tesla model 3?
Cabin noise is about the same, but Polestar has a better ride 👍
Hi Kris
I have ordered a ps2 22 model with a heat pump in the plus and pilot pack.. Is the heatpump worth the mony, or is it helpfull in the Winter times ??
How do you compare against XC40/C40 regarding the positives from Polestar 2, do you feel that there is a big difference in the feeling
I miss a regeneration-toggle...a deal-breaker for me...
Cheap, no. Affordable in it’s class, yes. Without any options price & quality match pretty nicely. Heat pump etc is definitely not a must, not even here in nordic countries. I can live without animated lights and other ridiculous stuff. Base model stereo seems to be pretty crappy though.. However option packs in my opinion are overpriced and for example here in Finland most of them shoot the price over government limit for discount, making them ridiculously expensive. All sh*t loaded over 60 k€ is not good. But 43-44k€ for base model. Yep. Pretty good for the money.
Sorry but we don’t agree, my wife and I drove it and the Ionic5 too but we bought a Tesla3 RWD, the Polestar was nice but ultimately compromised when compared the the Tesla3, which Penny much prefers driving….
One pedal driving without using your brakes, as an educated car mechanic, I cannot stress enough how much this will cost you in brake replacement. Your brakes will rust away so fast, and will cost you multitudes more than you will ever save in energy. This is my professional advice, be as rough with your brakes as you can.
You will still not be hard enough on them to keep them from rusting on you. USE THEM!
As an educated car mechanic my self, I can tell you that most EVs actually (including the PS2) use the friction brakes in one pedal driving. So you will not have to worry about surface rust, and your brakes will last much longer than non evs without regen.
@@KrisRifa i would still think it won't be enough. As even when you are relatively aggressive on your brakes its still hard to keep them from rusting up before the end of life, as I'm sure you know well as a mechanic.
But I was considering if they did apply some brake when going off the throttle, but as I was not sure I reframed from commenting on it. I stand corrected there though.
Location of course would also matter.
@@-Strit- I have done around 30k km in Polestar 2s the past year without any rust issues on the discs though. So in the PS2 it does seem to be sufficient. But it would never hurt to do some proper breaking sessions from motorway speeds few times a month though.
@@KrisRifa I agree.
Do you only use the one pedal driving, or well as much as you can?
You should buy a Chinese EV they tend not to have such strong regen except for NIO. X-PENG P7 for example is a great car but the regen is not so strong so you have to use the friction brakes.
Great video Kris, thanks.
Is that a Daytona, Kris? You need to start doing an 'on the wrist' as part of your intro.
Yes it is 😊 nice spot mate! I only have one watch atm, so would not be that exciting 🙈🤣
@@KrisRifa If you only have one watch, what a watch for it to be!! Fantastic.
@@Tikkaspecial thanks mate!
If you look at old videos you’ll see I’ve had quite a few different watches 😊 But I have a new one coming in around a year though, so I can’t complain 😅
Slippery slope the price of EVs depending on country.
I compare the Polestar 2 DM Perf Pack to a Golf R 8. The Polestar at $100k is $24k more in my country than the Golf R is.
The GT line EV6 is $107k. In no universe is the Kia worth that money, particularly in the way it drives and performance compared to both the Golf and Polestar. I was expecting a lot after the reviews but it was neither special or impressive.
But they are pre-selling them like crazy.....
I guess early adaption coolness trumps driving attributes and value for money these days.
What is the difference in consumption between 21 and 22 (with/without heat pump). Looking for a car for someone that is in need of a good car for short daily trips. And a used -21 is pretty well priced, with plus and pilot packs.
Heat pumps make a huge difference in energy consumption in EVs
Hy bro, the charger is out of stock in all colours
the polestar cheap and inexpensive?! I strongly disagree with the opening statement Kris, and I would reckon the other inhabitants of the world would agree with me... Have you lost all touch with the real world? jeezz...
I totally agree with you. By calling a polestar cheap he is also calling a Porsche a normal price car.
Kris, I suggest that you set up your cars in English, at least when you are filming the tablet.
How is it cheap? I have it and it has costed me just over 100100 dollars including extended warranty plus pack and leather seats and pilot plus. But still over $100000.
If you’d actually watch the video you’d know that this starts at less than 37k here in Norway. So it is one of the cheapest EVs on the market!
Not sure where you live but a fully loaded Performance is less than 65k here with every option and winter wheels, a lot less than what you paid 🙈🙈
@@KrisRifa I am in Canada. With all in including 13% tax, it has costed me $100000.
One thing bugs me all the time:
When you talk about your sponsor, you always say "Zaptec Go-Home Charger". Shouldn't it be called "Zaptec Go Home-charger". Or is it just me?
If your only option is a tesla, that is incredibly sad.
cheap? its a 45k to 65k car.....
In the Netherlands the polestar 2 (with all upgrades, heat pump etc) is more expensive than a Tesla model 3. And Tesla is more efficient and has way better software …
This is true most places, but remember that a fully loaded PS2 comes with kit that is not even available in a M3. Like the Performance pack with Ohlins and Brembo, Nappa leather interior with ventilated seats etc. But in this video we are talking about a base entry level car. And yes an M3 is more efficient, but my tests have shown that Polestars come closer to their claimed range than Teslas. So in the real world, the difference in range should not be that big. Lastly, the Polestar 2s software and cabin tech is better than Teslas.
Model 3 also has RWD instead of FWD which is huge and is 100kg lighter.
However if you're in the market for the upper specs and don't care about consumption then it's different. P2 LR DM is definitely a good car.
I honestly don’t understand in what world you live in… a 50k + car is not cheap anywhere… a lot of people in Europe- first world place - won’t have the money to buy this car… so please, I do like your work, but be a little bit more conscious of what the real life cost is.
