- We take a close look at the Weihrauch HW98 Breakbarrel Air Rifles in both .177 and .25 Caliber. The HW98 is possibly the finest breakbarrel produced. We matched these with KONUS OPTICS. Are these scopes tough enough to withstand the double recoil? We give you a close-up on these optics and show you the overall performance of HW98. #staytunedforairgundetectives

Love the Weihrauchs. I own the HW 97 and 95 and yes they are my favorite break barrels. Thanks for all the great reviews.
I appreciate your continued support. Happy Shooting!
I own the 77,95,98 all in 4,5 (177) 7,5 joules (Hungarian regulations)
But last week I received a Norica Storm 4,5 what cant I say...
Hw 97k isn't a break barrel.
Love your reviews and total honestly, I hail from Nz and have owned my Hw80 in 22 since mid 80s.
Have brought a Hw97kt in 177 over a year, and is my go to rifle. My next Weihrauch is a Hw98 in 22 that I've had on back order, keep up the good work.
Hi Tai, I appreciate you watching, and thank you for your comments! 👍🏻😉
I've owned a number of Weihrauch airguns, and they've all performed flawlessly. Build quality and accuracy are superb. Not as budget friendly as some, but worth the cost...👍😺
I couldn't agree more. These are great rifles
Much more friendly compared to air arms.
Hi JC, I knew you had these two HW98's and was looking forward to seeing them in action in your hands . Five stars. I have a Hw 98 177 and it is just my favourite spring. It is on par with all the other fixed barrel ones I have, and I have some of the best on the market. Thanks for the great review my friend. Happy shooting, and have a great weekend!
Yes, sir! They are really nice rifles. One of my absolute favorites. Habit a great weekend 👍🏻😉
@Jimmycricket- Yes... I pretty much tune most of my rifles. It does quiet them down a bit and eliminate the "Twang." 👍🏻😉
I have the 98 in 22 cal. These are amazing guns. Thank you for the great review, JC !!
.22 is probably my favorite caliber, but I already had the R9 in .22. .20 caliber in the 98 might have been nice as well. Happy Shooting, William 😉👍🏻
Just got a call from Airguns of AZ. My HW98 just came in. Your video review sold me. It's 22cal.
THANK YOU! MY HW 77 is same/same just terrific!!!
Weihrauch are thee rifles to start and end with, in my honest opinion,
I bought the 'little brother' to these two, the HW30 in .177, and even this one, can let you pick off a common house fly at 20 metres. no problem!
Thanks for the reviews JC, my favorite air rifles are lever or break barrel actions, hands down, soo I really enjoyed this video.
Hey Reg, I couldn't agree more. PCP rifles are great but I prefer an airgun that doesn't rely on an outside air source. Happy Shooting 👍🏻😉
@@AirgunDetectives Yessir, precisely why II don't own a PCP, I put my faith in 'springers'!
Correct me if I'm wrong but these fine guns were built for HFT spring piston class. Just superb craftsmanship. I'm watching on my phone, I can see the quality, I hear the cocking lockup, it sounds like a vault. Worth every dollar. ScottinPa.
Scott, you are correct. These are like a fine Porsche, BMW, etc, compared to your average Hyundai. These are 100% German built, and the quality is 2nd to none. You truly get what you pay for. Not to mention, the REKORD trigger is unmatched, simply amazing. Thanks again for tuning in 👍🏻😉
The Hw98 & Hw95k are identical internally but different externally. 98 is more a target rifle, 95 is more for hunting.
At last!!! My favourite Weihrauch Springer and the best break barrel in the world.
I can't argue your points! I absolutely love these breakbarrels! Thank you for watching, and I appreciate your comments 😉👍🏻
I bet the 98 in .177 would like 10.34 grain. I shoot a hw97k, hw98,and a tx200. As far as accuracy and triggers go on all three rifles? There's no difference between the 3. The only strong point to the TX200 over the hw's is the ease of breaking down the rifle. So when I hear someone say, the TX200 is the best, I simply have to say, "that's a matter of preference. ". And the hw's cost less.
Looking forward to your top 5 break barrel review. Shoot some of those field target targets in your yard in the review 👍 Another great, right to the point review JC, cheers!
JP, thank you for watching, and I appreciate your comments. Happy Shooting!😉👍🏻
Great video just ordered mine in 22 Cal out of all the Weihrauchs I hope I made the right choice for my first!!
You will not be sorry! That is my favorite Breakbarrel 👍🏻😉
Just got my 22Cal yesterday and I probably put 50 pellets down range 20 yards. I absolutely love
This air rifle !!! mine does not have any black in the stippling. It’s a tossup I like it either way.
@@AirgunDetectiveswich cal would you prefer and why? The .22 or .25. Thank you!
You have made my mind up. I have been considering buying a spring power .177 rifle for some time. I am going to get a 98. Great review.
Pat, you won't be sorry. This is the Porsche when it comes to breakbarrels. The REKORD trigger is simply amazing and 2nd to none. It's the old saying, "You get what you pay for!" These are worth every penny. 😉👍🏻
Your technique and your guns are amazing
I just ran my Beeman R-10 .20 caliber yesterday.
Kinda like it.
I want a bullseyes 😢 lol 😆
Can’t wait to see the top 5 break barrel video! 😎👍🏻
Hi, Truly great rifles.I have two 35s, one 77, (awsome), one 80, (bought thirty years ago, never dismantled), and a 97. German quality and shooting pleasure to me is unbeatable. Enjoy your sport. U.K.
I have the HW97 and HW50 and HW30 the HW35 and I love them all, now saving to get the HW98 with Konus scope, thanks for the review of this set.
Hi Egbert, you have quite the collection! You definitely can't go wrong, and the quality is 2nd to none. Thank you for watching, and I appreciate your comments 😉👍🏻
Concise review. Awesome rifle. Great content. Just subscribed, thank you !
Welcome, I really appreciate you watching, and thank you for leaving comments 😊
Good video I got a Seneca aspen is a very good air rifle I am very impressed try that rifle is a very good option is a pcp but you pumped like a daisy 880.
Great rifles JC. Very nice!
Steve, thanks for tuning in 😉👍🏻
On your recommendation I bought a the Konus scope with the same mount for my HW 80 and i love it !!!! I really appreciate your expertise. A small complaint I still have, unfortunately it is not possible to order accessories items from your store from abroad. Nevertheless, great performance.
lucky you, I've been waiting 10 months for my Weihrauch air rifles!!!
It's definitely worth the wait 👍🏻
Holly cow I just ordered one 35 E few days ago and I was thinking it will be here in a few weeks , but it’s ok I will be here waiting 😂😂
Not very strong, but incredibly accurate. A rifle that really deserves respect 👏
@@rapalaron6348 In terms of design, I think 98 is better :)
But what you do have is amazing accuracy. So you can be extremely precise if used for hunting. The .25 caliber is a lot of fun, amazingly accurate, but if I could only choose one caliber, it would be .22. I like the massive choice of pellets. Happy Shooting 😉👍🏻
I'm doing a HFT competition in the UK this weekend and I have to use my HW98 as my usual TX is not making power!
Good Luck!! And most of all, have fun!!😉👍🏻
Sounds smooth as silk! Great video.
I really enjoy your videos. I have watched many. I am not an owner of an air gun yet but I am very interested. I think it would be very interesting if you would produce a video for newbes. explaining the types of air guns comparing them to each other and outlining the advantages and diadvantages. Keep up the great work.
HOLA AMIGO,TENGO UN HW 77 EN 5.5 UN HW 97 EN 4.5 Y UN HW 98 EN 4.5 Y MI FABORITO ES EL 98.SALUDOS DESDE ESPAÑA🤝👍🏼
Very nice review, and the Konus are a good option very accurate rifle
I appreciate you watching! Happy Shooting 👍🏻😉
Craftsmanship wise, german made is A+. However, if we are talking about money and value, the Gamo Bone Collector .22 is my all time favorite, powerful, accurate, quality (Made in Spain), and not too expensive.
The Bone Collector G2-3 is my favorite Gamo. That is like a great Toyota. The HW98 is like a BMW or Mercedes in comparison. All very nice, just a finer product 😉 I really appreciate you tuning in, and thank you for leaving comments 👍🏻
Hey JC, love your channel and commitment to providing such detailed “no bs” reviews that the community values a lot!
In your opinion, what’s the most backyard friendly .177 or .22 air gun that you’ve tested so far?
Go with .22 cal. You have an incredible selection of pellets. The larger caliber gives you more FPE and is over-all a quieter performer. .22 is actually my favorite caliber over-all. Happy Shooting 😉👍
@@AirgunDetectives thanks! Between the DAR gen 3, Marauder gen 2, and gauntlet gen 1/2, what would be your pick for a quiet 25-50 yard plinker/pester ?
@@aakashk530 I would go with the DAR or the Airacuda Max. They are 3000 psi fill and regulated. 👍🏻😉
Nice!
the launch of the piston is the first recoil and the piston stop is the second .and sometimes the piston flex back a little more causes a vibration
Nice. Top five barrel video!!!!
Fine quality German air rifle.
Yes, sir! German quality! 😉👍🏻
Gamo Swarm Magnum 22 is the best break barrel in terms of foot pounds, price, accuracy, and it gives you 10 shots.
Very nice I love the stock
Great video 👍
Thank you!!😉👍🏻
Nice rifles🙂👍. Do you think that there is much of a difference between the HW98 and HW95, besides the bull barrel & stock? Lastly, is the HW trigger better than the AA TX200 trigger?
😊
@@Paul-de1tr Too many questions I guess, lol.
98 & 95 have exactly the same action, the differences are the barrel & stock, internally they're the same.
Hey JC, you said they are the same, but different barrels.
What about the spring? I noticed they have different fpe.
Would the difference in pellet weight change the fpe that much?
Just trying to wrap my head around this.
Quale ottica hai montato su questa carabina ???
No twang at all. That’s amazing.
Found it interesting that on the .25 green's it says on the tin pcp only yet they shoot perfectly in the spring powered rifle. What is the weight on the green's i can't quite make it out.
nice 👍
0:27 I heard “a break barrel by Winerack” 😂😂
Did you just cover us with that airgun? All you need on a springer is a Vortex Crossfire II 1-4x24.
Nice gun but only for 4.5mm. Do these konus have anti-vibration certification?
They have a "Lifetime Warranty" 😉👍🏻
Hi JC,
I was wondering if you fill your own shooting bags?
If so, with what?
Thanks
Hi Kurt...I use white rice. It is inexpensive and doesn't leak like sand. Now my Lyman bags have been prefilled with sand by the factory. But the others, rice works well, but keep them away from the rats. I did have a couple of holes chewed in a bag once.🤣👍🏻
@@AirgunDetectives
Great vid BTW, the lady in the beginning gave me a good chuckle, she is cute!gonna have to get me one some day (Weihrauch). I'm thinking of a 97 since I mostly just target shoot.
So the 98 is still your fave? Over the 95 or all the Weihrauch's?
Am in the process of building a descent spring compressor right now.
Thanks for all you do, you've been such a great help to the air gun community.
Shot #5 is which one. Nice video.
Could you do a review on the gamo swarm magnum gr .25 cal
How About air arms trigger? They are the same league as rekord trigger or for me personally even slightly better than rekord.
There just a 95 with a shroud on the barrel and a different stock.
Have you tried the gamo GR .25 magnum?
Funny you asked. I wanted to, but the Gamo rep advised they were discontinuing that model. To me, that looked like a huge seller.
@@AirgunDetectives well that stinks!Wonder why it's being discontinued?Just checked their website and appears you are right, its not there anymore.Bummer,it's a great gun,it really smacks.
@@BobzAirgunz I have learned, these manufacturers never listen to the actual customers. If they would, they would double their sales with just a few improvements.
Whats does the tuning do if requested?
Hi Ken, tuning smooths out the operation of the rifle. A full-tune includes taking the rifle apart, honing the air chamber, installing a new piston seal, maybe a top-hat on the spring, properly lubricating, and usually some trigger work if necessary. It will reduce or eliminate spring noise and vibration. Makes it an incredible shooter. 😉👍🏻
@@AirgunDetectives thanks brother
How much better is it than the hw80.
nice looking air gun. I don't like springers. I prefer the piston as more useable than a springer. springers cannot be pre-cocked as it will weaken the spring. target shooting yes. hunting NO.
Actually, it would take a very long time to weaken the spring. I wouldn't leave it cocked overnight, but a hunting session is no problem. Even after several years, if you had to replace the spring, they are extremely affordable. Not to mention, with a spring, you have the diversity of different tension levels if you want to decrease or increase velocity. Happy shooting, and thank you for watching 😉👍🏻
@@AirgunDetectives thanks for the info.
What is an Air Riflel?
If that .22 could crony at 850fps I would buy it
No open sights?
Why? Many prefer open sights to scopes and the companies just ignore this.
So you buy an HW 30, 50, and 77, duh!😘
Beautiful gun, but I don't see the point of having a .25 single shot airgun.
I would rather go for a rifle shooting 22LR.
This channel is about AIRGUNS, so you obviously don't see the point, period!
I think you liked these air rifles.
Haha my bsa scope just shit the bed after about 50 shots on my Gamo Magnum.. smh
u can say best when u had tried all
Yeah that .25 is on the weak side. Maybe a .22 would be a better choice for hunting. I wish they had a magazine🤷♂️💯
I have a .25 hw95 running 11.5ftlbs and I have taken hundreds of rabbits squirrels rats pigeons duck out to 45 yards with instant death headshots so having 18ftlbs over in the USA is more than over kill. Yes I know you have rifles that run 20/30+ ftlbs but you don't need it to hunt.
Can you unscrew the muzzle end of the barrel?
