I remember reading his autobiography, he talked about the first street part he filmed. He was so embarrassed because most of it wasn't good and the theater was quiet with a couple people politely clapping after some tricks. Then he did the casper slide and the whole crowd erupted.
I've seen all of these clips, repeatedly, for the last 20 years. My jaw still drops every time. This is witchcraft. Black magic. Rodney Mullen is a gd warlock.
Ive heard people say man casper slides are so cool i wonder why more pros dont do them these days. The answer to that is because literally no one can do them, and if they can, its nothing compared to Rodney.
i think the street tricks are more impressive than vert... the 540 mctwist is absolutely insane, along with the 900; vert and street feel like 2 different sports; this casper slide is equally as impressive
I started skating around 1989 as a street skater and most of us thought vert was lame af. I have much more respect for it now as I know it takes a whole different level of skill, but I still prefer street skating over vert.
Darkslides are pretty easy assumeing you wax the spot enough, as well as your grip. Casper/anti-casper slides are impossible (no pun intended) they will take your entire life to do one.
0:42 i invented this trick on a tech deck and thought it was impossible on a real skateboard until I found out Rodney invented it decades ago. A legend. This is by far my favourite trick
no clue how the board doesn't bite on some of these, you would think what is basically sand paper rubbing against concrete would just stop all momentum he has and yet he's sliding across this shit like its a waxed rail. the man just defies physics
Anti Casper is soooooo fucked …. Man is the creator of modern skateboarding. Like nobody does his tricks even in 2024 ….. maybe Jonny G but not all of them
The one downvote is from Rodney Mullen himself, as he doesn't want to seem cocky.
Its a dislike not a downvote...
Shut your fucking word hole it's whatever.
Rip dislikes
@@blazedenenra RUclips clearly removed dislikes just because of Rodney Mullen’s dislike because they thought he was being too humble
The Casper slide is hands down the most beautiful trick in skateboarding.
I believe you mean the ghetto bird.
It really is. Casper and darkslide to me were the greatest tricks to see hands down.
360 flip*

Most of his tricks are too damn hard. Like his underflips
They are insanely hard, and require almost a complete different level of techniques to pull off.
His control is just otherworldly
Untouchable. One and only, Lord Rodney Mullen👑
imagine pulling this off at x games, you'd win the comp just for that one trick lol
For real. Lol.
that casper slide tre flip out is dope tho
My favorite one
it's crazy that this trick exists
this is one of my fav trick ever
I never should of gave up skateboarding smh so much stuff in the past I wish i just stayed with till this day
I seen a few older heads definitely trying their first ollies during this quarantine. Never too late.

Jonny giger does them

The Casper slide to anti Casper. Hoooooly shit
I will NOT allow myself to quit skating until I learn how to darkslide and anti casper slide.

How Do you even conceive tricks like that?

Mullen is my god!
Where is the casper slide to nose manual from Round 3? It's one of my favorite things Rodney has ever done.
The double kickflip is insane
I wonder about all the crazy stuff he did off camera
He could say anything and I would believe him , "triple impossible onto a rail?" "Sounds about right Rodney. "
