When you work with a metronome, especially with younger ages into advanced levels, many teachers will utilize the metronome emphasizing the 1 and the 3 to give a home base for your measure counts. For musicians who study jazz, they set the metronome on the two and the four so that they can develop their swing time more effectively. For a lot of musicians, it’s harder to play with the metronome on 2+4 because the strongest, home beat is not the 2 or 4.
