- Compilation of the Group C class from Saturday and Sunday at Spa Classic 2017.
I Finally I saw a V12 Jaguar with Silk Cut livery in the Group C. Although it had some problems it was an amazing sound!
It didn't classify at both races though.
Also nice to see the variety of cars, as it differs every year. Great to see the Sauber and Intrepid again. And I've never seen a Toyota group c car before and another big V8 Spice driven by fellow dutchmen Allard Kalff and different Porsches.

Damn that sauber pulled on those cars easy off the start!
Fuckin' A bud! Thats what Mercedes V8 engines are made to do!
And you could hear that Sauber Merc coming too. 😎
That frickin Mercedes sounds like it came from hell!!! That V8 twin turbo sounds insane!!! 😱
Can't help myself, that thundering silver car is in my heart, his V8 even more.
A tip: watch movies at flixzone. Me and my gf have been using it for watching loads of movies lately.
@Flynn Blaine yea, I've been watching on Flixzone} for years myself :D
@Flynn Blaine yea, been using Flixzone} for since december myself :)
I think in racing, there's a certain point where how much faster the cars go doesn't matter anymore and the entertainment value of the race is dependent on how cool the cars look and sound. That's why so many people love the "old days" of Motorsport. The cars were unique, their liveries classic and their engines really roared.
gosh the silk cut jaguar and the mercedes sound awesome
Yes and de Sthemo BMW as well, too bad the Jaguar had some problems on Saturday. And on Sunday as well, both races not classified. :(
Yeah the Sauber C11 always makes me smile. Somehow manages to sound non turbo charged, with turbos, gear whine, all the good noises :)
Group C is one of the finest eras in Motorsport history. Makes the racing of today seem really lame.
True!!! I miss those halcyon days!
i love the Sauber Mercedes C11
I love it, but I love the Jaguar more. :P
wasn't the sauber c11 driven by nic minassian I think(think the spellings correct)
Sauber c11 is the best
Yeah some of those guys are definitely pushing it and some of those guys are gentlemen Racers who are just out there to keep the memory of the sport alive.
Holy hand grenade!!!
That Sauber Mercedes is OP
Now this brings me back, first to the actual place at SPA in 2017 and it was wet n cold and hot and wonderful as it should be at SPA- Francorchamps but also to Le Mans some thirty years ago from 2017. I was, and still am a Jaguar fan so seeing but mostly hearing the Jaguars passing by at the 24 H restaurant at the Hunadieres was incredible. But the Sauber...Thank´s for the video by the way and cheers from Sweden
God that Pink Spice sounding amazing.
That start must have been absolutely awesome..
Waiting for them to come around the hairpin for another lap, while still tingling from the previous one

When dinosaurs raced the earth!
The sauber mercedes c11 with the V8 5.2 liters turbo showing the true power
Now November 2019. Who are the 3 that gave t-down? HOW could they not like this?
That start!
Beautiful machines!!!!!!!!!.🐈
Great stuff as usual, seems like no body has anything for that sauber mercedes ever, it half tracks the field in the first lap, Thanks for the great video.
Thanks and well you say that but in the last race the C11 felt back in the pack. I don't know what happened there. It finished 2nd and 3rd.
Once it may have been that the C11 had a huge leg up over everyone else, but now that a bunch of the other teams have gotten their cars and drivers mostly in order, the Spice SE90 GTP, the Gebhardt C91 and Nissans (R90 and R93) come to mind and other teams have brought in faster cars like the XJR-14 (when it works), the Lola T92/10 (when it works) and the Spice SE92 GTP it's domination is not as clear cut. Still, the C11 is a tough package to beat because like in 1990 it has enough of everything like power, reliability and downforce compared to its competitors. But looking up the results, the SE90 won both the races and there were a couple of cars that were turning faster laps in qualifying and the race than the C11. Judging by the results so far from 2017 and 2016 it would seem that the team is having problems with the car, running really fast in qualifying and usually very close to qualifying pace in the 1st race with good results and then fading in the 2nd race.
You're right in that the C11, like the C9 before it, was not only extremely fast but they were just simply more reliable than almost any other car and that made it a tough car to beat. The 1990 WSPC season bore testament to that, although the C11 wasn't quite bulletproof at Le Mans in 1991. The XJR-14 was the faster car, being built to new regs for the 3.5 litre cars which meant it was much lighter (750kg vs 900kg) while Jaguar also took a new approach to its design, making it a high downforce car because there was no need for an ultra slippery shape once the 2 chicanes appeared at Le Mans in 1990. But while the fastest car at Le Mans in 1991 the XJR-14 was withdrawn after qualification as Jaguar knew it wouldn't last the race, as Peugeot showed with their 905.
The Sauber Mercedes always wins at Spa during the championships.
Nice that you were able to get to a variety of locations around the circuit. Interesting the variety of sounds they make; the Group C regulations must have been fairly flexible in terms of what engine configurations were permitted.
Yes, last year I could only film one race and not at the spots where I normally shoot. This year I went on Saturday and Sunday to film 45min of much better footage. :P Also that's why it's my favorite racing class with all the different engines.
GrC ( in it's heyday, not the later 3.5l formula ) regulated on fuel consumption, how it was consumed was pretty open. ECUs and maturing turbo technology did start to make a bit of a mockery of it by the late 80s though. All a C1 car had to be was 800kg, a fixed fuel tank size and I think an engine from a manufacturer who had an engine homologated in another FIA category.
Yup, fuel was the only real constraining factor with regards to engines so teams were left to come up with any engine they could as long, as you say, the engine was from a recognised manufactured and had been homologated in FIA Group A or Group B racing. Although I couldn't quite work out how Jaguar replaced the V12 with the V6 turbo for the XJR-11 when the car that engine was from, the Metro 6R4, no longer competed in Group of the WRC because that category was banned in the mid-1980s. And I don't think Nissan or Toyota had V8s in any of their cars at the time, road or racing, but they had V8s in their Group C cars. And did Mazda ever have the 3 and 4 rotor engine in any road/racing car of the time too? Before 3.5 N/A engines were the norm for 1991 and 1992, Group C also featured these F1 type-engines a couple of years beforehand, found in the back of cars like the Spices.
Fuzzynutter The Jaguar V12 was at the end of its development life as far as Group C was concerned. The only alternative was a new engine. The V12 Jaguars were very difficult to drive anyway. Because of the length of the engine, Tony Southgate angled the entire power train and fitted the rear spring/damper units into the wheels. The engine was also both tall and top-heavy, giving the drivers an uneasy feeling that it was going to overtake them as they turned in to corners. Probably the best engines to come out of Group C were the Nissan VRH35 and Toyota R32V and R36V turbo V8s and I don’t think either of them were production-based. Both were good for about 800 hp in race trim. The Toyota chassis was, from memory, built by Dome and wasn’t in the same class as the Lola-built Nissan. They were just hitting their stride when Group C was retired. The VRH35 eventually spawned the engine found in McLaren road cars. I don’t know what happened to the Toyota.
The white and blue car at 1:06 ... The Intrepid RM-1. That thing makes 10,000 lbs of downforce. Read all about it.
Seen em life at the ring 1991 , never to forget !
Schumacher blew his engine right in front of us , camping Muhlenbach !
