Thanks for posting this video. Rener hit the nail on the head when he said that, despite the best intentions, men don't understand the psychology of women coming to class for the first time, so it's good to have female instructors. I took one round of Women Empowered and then moved to a location where there is no Gracie JJ, so I never finished the course. I thought the male instructors and students did a good job working with the female students. The women in my class all worked together, were supportive of one another, and I really enjoyed it and learned a lot. As training partners, we became one another's instructors as well.

What if women INITIATE the violence? Should men be allowed to defend themselves?

Man, I want a Pink Belt (sarcasm). So, can someone please explain this to me. If a woman receives a pink belt, dose she wear it till she gets a blue belt, and what happens if she wants to compete, I don't think there is a pink belt division (sarcasm). Listen, there is nothing wrong with being a beginner, but I just don't understand making all of these different belt colors (like white with a blue stripe) for the beginners rank. In a nutshell, if you haven't earned your blue belt yet, you are still a white belt. That's some Mc Dojo shit Rener! Stop making your school look bad.

Women Empowered is a separate women's self defense class, not a regular BJJ class. So they award a pink belt when you complete two sessions of the class and the test. The Gracie University website shows the lessons.

@@imafine1 So this is an argument of semantics. Basically, you are taking a class that is under the umbrella of GJJ/BJJ (and even that distinction in name alone is pretty semantic). These are all just different aspects of the same Art. I think it's pretty safe to say that Rener's "Woman 's Empowerment Class" is NOT an aspect of say, something like "Tae Kwon Do", or "Krav Maga", so after we eliminate every other art or discipline, then we're just left with Jui Jitsu (or if you want to call it GJJ, or now more commonly referred to as BJJ, but again, that's just semantics, because they both refer to the exact same art, and no, I am not referring to Japanese Jui Jitsu, and yes, I do understand that everything I just mentioned including Judo and Aikido are all deridatives of Japanese Jui Jitsu). So that brings us back to my first question, if all of these classes are just a different focus of the same art, then why is Rener creating different belt colors and distinctions for a beginners belt rank (and I have noticed girls wearing pink belts in seminars and other classes on different videos as well as in seminars that I have also attended, and they almost seem like their real proud of that pink belt, like they just earned their black belt or something... rolling my eyes, and BTW, whenever I watch videos of Rener and Eve teaching a "Woman's Empowerment class", it looks more like these girls just paid their money to attend a comedy show). Anyway,....so, do these girls continue to wear their pink belts after they get their blue belt?.....I don't know, but my guess is, probably not, and I do happen to know that they can not wear a pink belt when they compete in a tournament, they would have to either wear a white belt or wear the belt for whatever belt rank division that they are competing in. So Pink Belt, is not an actual belt rank (and neither is white with a blue stripe), so can we agree on that much? Then why is Rener (or The Gracie Academy) making up all of these variations of a beginners belt rank. And don't get me wrong, I know that Rener is a great JJ practitioner (Look, I know I can't beat up Rener), as well as a great instructor and a great coach, but this just looks a whole lot like a hot pile of "Mc Dojo" dog shit to me (or maybe just a money grab). It just adds confusion to the belt rank system because we don't have solidarity in the BJJ comunity. If Pink Belt was an actual belt rank (for EVERYONE) that came after white belt, and was was recognized by the ENTIRE BJJ comunity as an official rank, and if the IBJJF had an actual division for Pink Belt, then I would respect it as an official belt rank, but clearly, that's not the case, it just looks like you're turning your school into a Mc Dojo.
