    Tried this this year, my marigolds are amazing. I'm going to make more next year. I used bottles we emptied that had tea in them. It works just as well.

      Where do you find landscaping materials?

    • @downychick
      @downychick 2 года назад

      It is called landscaping or weed barrier fabric. Walmart carries it, as do stores like Lowe's, Home Depot, Menard's, Tractor Supply, Atwood's, Ace Hardware. I saw some at Dollar General in the past.

    I get the 5" hole on the outside...how tall are the cans that you're putting the the tub? IS THE HOLE IN THE TOP PART OF THE CAT HIGHER/LOWER or EVEN TO THE HOLE ON THE OUTSIDE?????

    • @walterbrundidge
      @walterbrundidge 3 года назад +2

      The cans on the inside should be about an inch higher than the hole on the outside container. The hole in the inside can or cans are on the side towards the top and bottom. They’re there to led water in the can and the air out. So a 5 inch tall container on the inside, make the hole 4” up on the outside. Six inch container on the inside, a hole 5 inches up on the outside. Leaves about 1” of air space in the inside container.

    Not to sound ignorant but he refers to "soil" a lot so there's a difference between actual soil and potting mix. Which one is he referring about for wicking?

    • @okstate_ag
      @okstate_ag  3 года назад

      Potting soils and potting mix are the same thing, and they are actually soilless mixes. You should not use garden soil or topsoil for this. The "wick" is the are at the bottom that sits in water and draws it up to the rest of the pot.

    Leon-Can I do this: I have the brown plastic 7gal trash cans-and some leftover cotton fabric along with the leftover 4 or 6 inch wide plastic containers the plants come in from the store. Can I turn the leftover small plastic containers upside down in the bottom of the trash can, layer the cotton fabric over the containers, drop in a pvc pipe to water and a hole in the side of the trash can to vent then put a layer of 3in landscape rocks and sand over the fabric, then the soil and plant my tomoatoe plants? Will that still work and not over water?

    • @paulwoodman5131
      @paulwoodman5131 4 года назад +2

      The rocks and sand won't wick the water up into the soil. You're going to need potting soil or coconut coir or peat moss for wicking. Peat moss may rot so most don't recommend it. Visit Leon's you tube Page. Gardening With Leon. He's awesome 🥰.

    How about instead of the pipes or cans you just throw big chunks of bark in there. Like pieces that fall off firewood.

    BAD THING to use cans dude...contaminate your food!!!! Use pladtic pipes

    • @Overfl00d
      @Overfl00d 2 года назад +1

      Don't think so. Plants actually like rust, and it's good for the soil. The only down side I see is, that it will lessen the life span of the system. So plastic prob better, unless it's aluminum cans.

    • @halibaitor
      @halibaitor Год назад

      @@Overfl00d
      Yeah, the cans he uses will rust out and need to be replaced every year. Aluminum soda or tall beer cans won't rust, they should last many seasons.
