  • This small diesel engine is not ready for real world use out of the box. It needs a full teardown, inspection, and proper re-assembly as well as a couple of easy mods to make it work worthy. Without prepping I would be surprised to get 100hrs out of one because of poor assembly throughout.
    I am putting this series together in a simple detailed fashion hopefully even an inexperienced mechanic can prep one of these simple engines for daily use.
    Products and Items used throughout this series: Some tools I have had for many years and these links are if for similarly designed or same as what I used. I also have no control if product changes over time from link.
    -168F Diesel Engine. Actual Used
    It arrived differently than the image on the add this is what I purchased amzn.to/3x9Jm6l

    -Jewelers Loupe Magnifier for inspection Similar as Used amzn.to/3DMzbXN
    -Piston Ring Expander I did not use or own put could be beneficial for ring installation. amzn.to/3HK0d4x
    -Replacement Rings? looks like L40 Yanmar clone rings will most likely fit. amzn.to/3r1b3xa

    Thanks for watching.

    You are the most organized person I've ever seen tearing down an engine. Most people are a lot sloppier lol.

    Love the way you have done this video. The format is way different. I'm kind of picky about what to watch on RUclips, there's so much out there and I don't like people who aren't serious. Jokes are one thing bs is another. I've subscribed.

    Someone asked for some specifications. 196cc. 68x54mm bore Stroke. 20mm output shaft 5mm keyway. Shaft length is over 2 inches forgot to measure. 3000rpm max, 2.2kw power, holds 3 liters fuel, 0.7liters oil. Splash lubricant. Weights 20kg. 395x330x345 L x W x H. Recommends 10w 30 oil.

    I rinse out my ziplocs for years out of cheapness and this guy’s dedicating a bag to each part 😂 like it’s an F1 engine.

    I gave my F168 a similar treatment and was concerned mainly of the assembly quality. The individual parts seems okay. You have had your engine a year longer than I. Could you give us a one-year review of the engine? How many hours have you put on it? Is it still as good as new? Did you peek into its insets after one year of operation? I am really interested in the long-time reliance of it.
    Cheers!

      Mine has a red knob on side of engines loosen knob and.it will allow throttle to move by moving red knob. Lock into engine speed you desire. If loose it returns to 0 fuel injected and engine stops.

    The internals of these don't seem heavy enough for long-term use even the basic bore / stroke measurements. These seem more like a short stroke, high rpm gas engine design.
    Anybody tried these in 24/7 low speed generator use or similar low speed, constant operation?

    • @mossycreekvids
      @mossycreekvids  2 года назад +3

      Everything is relative to need. Just by the nature of the bore and stroke as you mentioned this engine does not like running really low rpm. It can run low but hammers the engine really hard because of short stroke. The happy place appears to be 1800-3000 rpm. For my log splitter I put it on 2200 works great. I do not expect it to last longer than any high quality gas if we are lucky.
      Positives for small engine use
      -Light weight
      -can be used in place of a lot of gas 3200rpm engine situations
      -Diesels stores way longer than most gasolines even ethanol free
      -can be run off of WMO and other bio fuel if need arises.
      -definitely more fuel efficient than the gas 6.5hp engine it replaced and powers my log splitter just as good
      Negatives Depending on need
      -light weight
      -Runs at 1800-3000 rpm which limits longevity as with any engine that operates at these rpms. Not good for long term 24/7 usage
      -Not for low rpm genset
      I had a 12/2 listeroid Genset. Which wound up being an absolute piece of heavy junk. The machine would have been awesome for 24/7 with the exception of the breaking cam shaft and the horrible timing gears. Even mods it was not good, junk. So close to a good machine.
      Now find a real lister or even a single cylinder listeroid can be made way more reliable for low speed 24/7 gen use. I plan on taking my low speed genhead gearing up and hooking to my 30hp tractor pto. For 24/7 if need ever arises for me

    I have the orange version of this engine. Mine has a metal air filter housing. I notice yours came with a fuel filter. Mine did not. I wonder where I can find a fuel filter like that?

    • @mossycreekvids
      @mossycreekvids  2 года назад +1

      There are a couple variations of this engine. When I ordered mine the picture was the orange one with metal filter. Mine showed red with plastic. LOL. Any decent small engine filter will most likely work. Look in your tank where your fuel nipple is. One style of this engine has a debris screen there.
