      one thing i have learned over the yrs tent camping is too add a extra tarp cover over the tent w rainfly setup under it. considering some of the new tents are just skeeter cloth on the top may have to double up on the extra tarps. like having 3 layers of roof between me and rain.

    Very informative video. I use this setup using the end tie offs when I'm setting up for a hammock. That allows for enough length to hang the hammock underneath, while still allowing you to close the doors on both ends. In order for the doors to close completely with the "hammock variation", you have to hang the ridge-line higher to create a steeper angle which allows the doors to overlap slightly at the bottom while leaving a small opening at the top to allow the hammock straps to pass through for hanging your hammock.

    • @RedBranchBushcraft

    Nice job. I work with families on emergency preparedness, and I'd love to see more demos of tarp layouts designed to accommodate more people. The design in this video looks like it could easily be adapted to use two tarps that overlap in the center. Each tarp then provides an "end" or door, and the other end of the tarp is wide open where it overlaps with its mate.

  • @maxsparks5183
    @maxsparks5183 Год назад +3

    I like your use of a prussic knot with the carabiner on the free end so you can clip it onto your tarps center loops without having to go to the trouble of tying knots. Thanks for teaching me that today.👍

    • @motrock93b
      @motrock93b 10 месяцев назад +1

      Yes, it's a good method. If you don't have the carabiner you can use the same prusik loops with a toggle (small stick) instead. Put the prusik loop through the tarp's loop, then run the toggle through the prusik loop and pull it tight. I hope I've explained this well enough to be understood.

    Doing this with a 3x3 works pretty well, but if youre over maybe 5'6" or so, youll struggle to lay down in it without curling up or laying diagonally. A 4x4 would be ideal. I did to a slightly modified verson of this setup with a 10'×15' on a trip maybe 2 weeks ago. (tie out spacing on the long ends screws everything up), turned out alright. I was dry, I got some sleep, there was plenty of room inside, pretty easy setup once you know what you're doing.

    This tarp configuration has some limitations if one is using it as a true over night shelter rather than as a temporary shelter. The main issue with trying to rely on it as an over night shelter in foul weather is if there is a heavy rain and any slope to your site, there is the possibility the water running off the side of the shelter will make its way underneath and into your dry area.

    • @RedBranchBushcraft

      That's why you have to have an entrenching tool 🥳
      So you can dig a trench around the tent, so rainwater won't come into your dry area.

    • @PhilCherry3
      @PhilCherry3 Год назад +1

      @@wolf1393 Yes trenching around the tarp shelter will stop water from running under the tarp after it rolls down the sides. However some sites such as campgrounds will not allow trenching around the tarp shelter either because of the site’s condition or park policies or both.
