- After the derailment of Norfolk Southern intermodal train NS 231 the night before, short line Georgia Central (GC) takes the counterpart, NS 232, from Brosnan Yard in Macon, GA to Savannah, GA. We chase the train trough the countryside of central Georgia from Macon to Danville, GA. Enjoy watching the pure GP38-2 lashup in action!
I was the engineer pulling this train. This one was actually a dream to pull! You really captured some great footage!! Thank you!!
That's cool. Thanks for your comment. I can imagine that this train was a change in the daily routine! Great you enjoyed the footage of it.
did u ever worry about stalling out?
My only problem with the Genesee & Wyoming locomotives is that they all look the same everywhere. The only difference between their railroads is the logo, the color scheme never changes. It's a bit boring. But of course this is not your fault. It's good to see rare engines on your channel. This was one long double stack train. I'm sure the locals were pretty surprised when this monster snaked through the towns. You very nicely capture the action for us again. Thank you for the entertaining video. :)
I have to agree, of course, but at least they have their distinct theme. Painting locomotives is an expensive endeavor and thus it's completely understandable they keep the style uniform (and it's a question of corporate identity, too, of course). Anyway, this was an awesome catch. One doesn't see geeps on stack trains very often anymore. I'm sure the residents were surprised. You're welcome!
G&W have interests in Australia as well. They’re called the Australian Railroad Group and run from Adelaide to Perth and Darwin.
Yes I catch the B&P trains in Butler PA and they have the sa,e paint scheme
You had some great shots with great angles. Excellent video.
Thanks so much! We were glad the sun came out, finally.
What an awesome decision to go to Macon that day. Great footage as always!
Yep, what a great day. We'll have to go there again, Wes!! Looking forward to watching your footage.
i'll bet that crew was white knuckling the whole trip. wow. that track. i loved the part where they came up the hill full bore smoke bellowing. now that's railroading. thanks for the upload.
That climb was awesome. You're welcome!
The crew had to get their sea legs working with that rocking.
Still those Old EMD GP'S Still have it going on NEVER Underestimate those Engine's They Will always Be there to move that Freight and They sure did sound Amazing pulling up those Grades Love that Sound of those EMD Engine's although I do Enjoy the sound of those Turbo Charged EMD Engine's They sound Awesome
Geeps are awesome!
Amazing power pulling this beast along. Well filmed. Thanks for sharing.
You're welcome!
Loved it, as always!
Plus, I love how on your channel, you put the preview at the end. Gives me something to look forward to in your next video!
Very cool, thanks! I know, the preview keeps the excitement high - and puts me under pressure 😂
The crossing was kind of flaky, track work needed there.well cars close to the ground.cool to see gp's on intermodal train! Enjoyed this video!
Thanks! Right, I was wondering about the contact between cars and road, too, which is why I tried some close-ups. It looked more impressive in real.
FYI to any railfans living the south , A fan can track this trains run from Macon Ga all the way to Savannah Ga, along one single two lane road ( US Hwy80) and catch some awesome footage all along the way, Almost 170 miles of back country roads with some of the most scenic southern towns you will ever find , lots of weekly trains and even 6 axle power east of Vidalia Ga !!!
Wow great video! Super cool to see shortline intermodal action! Also very cool to see them at speed at 13:05!
Absolutely. It was a great short line show :)
Great scenery and great photography! Thank you for sharing!
You're very welcome!
great video 🚄🚄👍
Thanks 👍😊
Keep 'em coming!
Yup.
Super video!
Thank you!
That is so cool! Imagine seeing this huge train on those tracks, when normally all you see are short locals.
The local residents must have been perplexed to see a monster like this in their neck of the woods.
This was an awesome catch! This looks like the most action those rails have had in a while. I love to see the train action!. America needs to expand there railroad with longer trains and more jobs.
Yeah, it really was. It's been a while since I saw a stack train on a short line.
Great video as usual.
Awesome, thank you :)
Excellent Dam they are great cool man
Yeah, this was a great catch.
Lol that railway crossing sign was priceless with its roses obscuring signage
I know lol. It looked very outta place.
That's actually cypress vine. Some little birdie sat on the railroad crossing sign and planted it for everyone to enjoy in this video. They grow quick, so even if a maintenance crew tears it down, it will be back next spring.o
Two Thumbs Up. Those GP38-2's was struggling up that last hill! Can't wait for the next video!
That's great! Good you like it. I love these GP38-2s, but yes, it was hard work for them on those grades.
@@mbmars01 I'm already waiting for the next video. When you think you will put it up?
Well, I hope soon - as time permits...
@@mbmars01 I'll be watching for it. I absolutely love your videos. Such awesome detail in the banners and the quality is OUTSTANDING.
Nice job!
Thanks!
What a picturesque scene-setting opening with the ivy-covered railroad crossing sign and the old Peterbilt (I think?) under the trees. Nice to see a bit shortline action, once again G&W companies keeping their power looking very clean.
Yea, that sign was worth an extra shot. I haven't see an RR crossing sign overgrown like that before.
That's so neat! 4 axle locos of any kind pulling an intermodal isn't an everyday thing. Also notice that FURX GP38-2 has it's NS logo patched out on one side but not the other
Absolutely right. That's why we chased it for quite some distance. I noticed the missing NS logo on one side as well.
Awesome
Thanks!
The locals probably didn’t know what to think with these longer trains. And more of them.
Yeah, those who paid attention were probably surprised.
Love the genesee and Wyoming paint scheme 👍
I once thought I would get used to it quickly, but I have to say that I also still like it!
Very awesome catch bro keep it up love it they saved of the train
Thanks and great you liked it!
I've never seen 5 GP38-2 pulling a intermodal before, u shocked me mbars
Lol, I hope I didn't really shock you :) but it's true, so many geeps on an intermodal train is rare nowadays.
Nice stuff! When RRs work together to keep things rolling😊
Oh yeah, seems to work pretty well.
As always mbmars01 great angles great light and just a great video. Trust you are well
@Robert McGregor Light actually took it's time, but it all worked out very well in the end. It was an awesome chase. I'm fine, hope you too!
I love the G & C horn
It sounded somewhat fouled, but I also liked it.
@@mbmars01 I almost confused the G & c with a bnsf
Lol, this isn't surprising :)
@@mbmars01 hahahahahaa
Great video. The hills make for some great footage. The Genesee & Wyoming paint scheme has grown on me. I have mostly CSX videos on my channel, but do try to get some Indiana and Ohio footage when I can.
Thanks! It's always good to see some different color.
j'adore t'es videos !! j'en suis fan !! quel puissance ce convoi !! a bientot ! dédé de france !!
Merci beaucoup! Yeah, this was an awesome train. I love France! I always enjoyed my visits and the great food!
Great catch
It really was a lucky catch.
Horn on 2137 has a very distinctive tone to it; kind of 'lonesome whistle across the prairie'
Oh I know what you mean. It's so nice to be out in the quiet and listen to a train getting closer.
That's so rare! A local Z-Line hauling Intermodal cars!
Absolutely! It was great fun chasing him on this line.
We took half of 231 (I31) from Augusta to Columbia. Where we pick up all the Macon, then took it to Charlotte. We were 2 1/2 miles long. 10000+tons.
Very interesting! Wow, that's crazy.
In The Start of 2021! The Firey outbreak Blow up Would be it!
Like..Greetings from Italy..
Cool, thanks! Greetings back!
Wow I lived beside this truck in soperton for 20 years, always wanted to see a intermodal train come though, I don't live there anymore lol, is this something Georgia central is going to do or just a one time thing
No, that was only because of the NS derailment.
It’s time for you to invest in a drone. You do so well with the regular photography that it would just make your videos the best on RUclips. Thanks for the video.
Well, I don't know. When drones came up I got briefly excited, but the more videos I watched the less convinced I got that I really wanted it. I think I particularly don't like the lack of train sound and the "model train" look of the scenes. Nothing against model trains (I love my layout), but it's just not the real railfan perspective. I want to see the huge engine and autoracks go by close and hear the rumble of the engines, the hissing of the air brakes, the sound of the wheels going over joints... that kind of stuff is an important part of my videos. Also, I like to chase trains - sometimes with few seconds only to spare before the train arrives - and don't want to fool with recalibrating the drone every time I change my location. But let's see, maybe one day I look at it again as an option.
Plenty of other people use drones, (and many of them are very good.) It kind of feels different NOT to and to concentrate on the kind of trackside shots you do so well.
@@mbmars01 I personally love your style of filming. Shooting from a drone takes the romance of trains out of the art of railfanning. I think drones take the focus off of the trains. The rocking and swaying of the cars, the hiss of the moisture shooting out of the air dryers.... even the whine of the traction motors. I even get satisfaction from the close ups of the ties and joints depressing. Ground filming is where the action, and the romance of the train is at. KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK, FRIEND !
@AndreiTupolev @Jamie Davis Thanks for your encouraging comments. Great you like the video style. I may or may not consider experimenting with drones some day, but as of now I have no actual plans.
I cant think which one is more rare
Me passing my Grades
Or geeps pulling a long intermodal train
Lol, that's funny.
Great video.Track looks a bit suspect though.🇬🇧
Thanks! Well, yeah, but it's just a short line. Not much traffic there.
Thats cool some engineers watch these videos on you tube
Oh yeah, they usually like to watch how their trains look like in action from outside the cab.
Damn that was a long train .
I was also surprised, but the Savannah stack trains are usually long.
Double stack on questionable track = edge of your seat entertainment!
Haha, definitely!
Were you ever able to capture the Georgia Central back when they still ran the High Hood U-boats
Unfortunately not.
@@mbmars01 you still have a chance because out of their entire roster they saved one unit and it's up in Oak Ridge Tennessee in a Museum and it is operational and in Freight use, the engines number is 3965
Have safe Thanksgiving next week
Thanks so much! Same to you!
Lower Poplar St area.
0:29 Railroad Crossing._. 🙂🤔😐👍
EMD !!! 5x GP38-2 2 K HP each
Yeah, where can one still see small EMDs on an intermodal train. This was epic.
What was the predecessor road of this line?
ACL, then SCL I suppose?
Looks like GC needs to spend some of that money on track maintenance! One of the lamps on 2137 needs attention as well!
It really isn't worth for the one or two trains they run regularly. There's no intermodal traffic on this line usually.
@@mbmars01 they run 2 daily most of the time, L782, L781
@BNSFBishop Thanks, I thought it would be like that, one train in each direction.
I live there and we could meet and do some filming
Well, I live two hours away. I think it was the first time I actually entered that area.
what happening Derailment in Georgia??
Oh there are derailments all the time somewhere. It's part of railroading here lol
Track not good for 6 axle power, I guess...
NS should share the lease with GC with those track
Well, if they would simply stop derailing trains on the Savannah District, it shouldn't be necessary...
Nah, NS has their own trackage and it’s in better shape.
yawn boring watching same train over n over again
Well, it's a rare catch. I like to watch it from different perspectives.
Ok then
Amazing power pulling this beast along. Well filmed. Thanks for sharing.
You're welcome!
