Your skills, commentary and videos are just sensational. The reason I love vintage watches is because the quality is there, today they don’t make them how they used to unless you pay a premium. Also there was so many cool designs and styles.
Bonjour. Just found your channel a few days ago. I'm a big fan of restoration of just about anything. Also a huge fan of watches. Vintage watches are great. I can't help feeling fuzzy when I see one. The mystery of where it's been all those years is trully exciting. Thank you for sharing.
Superb this Omega, I like vintage because in addition to being prettier in my eyes than the recent ones, they bear witness to the past and the quality of objects from that era. The designs and dimensions of watches from those eras were just perfect. In addition to all this at that time the brands were for many independent and did not belong to large groups.
Very good video! Vintage Omegas are very beautiful watches, and this watch in particular. I have a similar one myself, ref 2639-13 from 1952. Diameter is 36 mm and that's why I like them also.
Another excellent restoration. I love the character and unique quality of vintage watches. No cookie-cutter designs that have been copied over and over again. If anything, I believe some of these vintage designs should be reintroduced with modern components to get these of old and new.
That chopper plating on the movement is always beautiful on vintage omegas!! And I see how the new one are similar to the old one in this case. I have seen other services videos of this movemenet in particular and I always appriciated the movemt architecture. Why to love vintage watches is clear just from these video those things are beautifull!!! I hope to see your channel grow and grow more because it deserve it and to pick up the interest of other people on watches.
I am a big fan of mechanical watches. It's very rare in this day and age to see objects that can last for generations like vintage watches do. It's also very nice to finally find a fellow Frenchman who makes this kind of video on RUclips!
Another wonderful restoration! Those old Omegas have a great look that can't be duplicated by modern watches that try to look vintage. Enjoy it - it's a beauty!
Another good one 👍👍🍷. I really enjoyed your chat with HB the other day. That’s one thing I like about vintage watches; the community that enjoys them also.
Great video on a beautiful watch, thank you so much. Not for the first time though, I noticed that you do not remove what seems to be rust from the stem. Why?
Bravo! Very nice job sir. A wonderful restoration, and it was great to see you bring this beautiful Omega back to life. I was curious, do you sell what you restore, or just keep these for your own collection?
This is such a youtube thing. Timegrapher at the very end, ooops your beat error is not good. too bad it's already done. This is such a problem with watch resto youtube.
I love these old vintage OMEGAs, i recently bought one myself to restore. It is really hard to find parts. For the movement parts are available, but the cases are a different story. I am even thinking of manufacturing a bezel myself.
Wow, excellent video as always. This movement reminds me of a pocket watch. I really enjoyed your chat with HB several days ago. Much appreciated. Take care.
I love vintage watches because they are so well made, elegant dress watches were every day watches then. I like thin watches which were the watch designer’s greatest challenge for decades, modern Omegas are thick in comparison. Watch movements were at their zenith in the 1950s and 1960s , before the “ quartz crisis “
Awesome job as always. I like watches because they are a time machine for your everyday life and they are fascinating machines because of all the parts they have.

Thank you again for your videos. Always love your details you provide in your services. Question after Epilame do you run the escapement before you lube the pallets? Some suggest to do so to remove a line of Epilame for the oil to reside? Thank you again.
Before oiling the palet fork I make it moves with power in the watch to see if it is clicking left and right. The escape wheel is obviously turning when you do this. I do the oiling of the pallet after this
After I started watching your videos, I decided to start my journey tinkering with watches. Extremely satisfying and frustrating at the same time. The first watch I serviced I spent more time looking for screws on the floor than actually working on the watch. Lol. I learn and am impressed by your videos.
Tu arrives vraiment à chiner des montres incroyable... bravo encore pour la vidéo! Je trouve cette oméga vraiment très bien finies avec de belles décorations !
Great video as usual. Vintage watches have so much character and look fantastic. I like the size and the dial detail, to me they are timeless and look more expensive than what you can get them for these days. Bonus is if it is a non runner and you can get them going again, very rewarding and adds a personal connection to the watch and reviving history.
Restoration of a vintage watch is not only mechanically and artistically satisfying, but also soul satisfying, because behind every vintage watch brought back to life, there is a story of a person's (or, in some cases, a family's) legacy. Thanks for all of your hard work in sharing these videos! 😄
@@FrenchWatchCollector 😅🤣 btw, when did the first "see through case back" was put "by default" or "on request" directly from the factory ? (the 90ies ? may be the 80ies ?)
Thanks so much for your wonderful videos. I have a cal.265 and am hoping to learn on some other cheaper watches before I attempt a service. I am commonly off by about 30s/day. I have brought it to some places to get it looked at and they always say 30s is acceptable. Do you agree? I don't expect Chronometer level but I would love to get it better than it is some day.
Excellent work on your part, and well narrated., thank you. I have a centre second Bumper from c1952. (Omega Seamaster S/N 124 384 481 Caliber 351 Bumper, 17 J). Back in the late seventies, an older cousin, now deceased, had this old watch that he had pulled the inners out of. He suggested that I might be interested in seeing it. He had bought it in 1952 but seems to be a 1948 model. He plunked the movement with a missing minute and second hand in front of me. Where is the rest of it, I asked. He went off looking back in the drawer and came back with a case covered with a tarlike substance and the case back. I had never seen a bumper and shook it, To my astonishment it started running. You can have it, he said. When I got home, after setting the hour hand to the correct hour, I wound it up and left it overnight . The next morning I saw that it had kept time, so set about scraping the tar off what turned out to be a lovely gold-filled case. We had "a local watchmaker" so off I went to see if he could find a case ring, crystal and hands and other missing parts and restore it. He did, although the second hand is a bit short. The dial shows its age, but has a lovely antique look. The gold fill was worn on the high wear points but it still looks lovely. On the night table it kept around + 2 sec/day. I checked it recently and it is still +- 5 sec a day, but I won't wear it until that 45 year service is refreshed. You can see why your comment was of such interest to me.

A great help with my efforts to learn more about watchmaking. Also, I’ve been trying to learn French! I’ve failed at French, but am hoping to make more progress with watches! Thanks
I subscribed and liked your channel because I very much enjoy watching various watch repair channels. I like yours because you speak your explanations rather than just having it written on the screen. Because of your channel and a couple of others (Nekkid Watch Maker, and Wristwatch Revival) at 75 years old I am seriously considering getting into the hobby. As a retired aircraft mechanic and instructor having worked with my hands most of my life, watch repair would allow me to do that again. Thank you for your videos. I enjoy them very much. I've learned a lot.
Question.... do you feel that the modern oils and grease's are superior enough (mostly synthetic) that service intervals are extended to a significant amount?
Thanks for your videos! Vintage watches are amazing, especially well loved ones. They're a link to the past, to the lives of the people who wore them, and the watchmakers who built, serviced, and designed them too, all in a pre-digital world. You've inspired me to start a restoration project of my own :)
Another great job French, Even the simplest looking vintage watch turns out looking so cool. The more I see vintage watches being restored back to life and the more I handle them, having a new watch does not quite feel the same, it feels bland compared to vintage. Cheers French
Great video. I love vintage watches because it connects you to previous generations of people, and because you can get great watches for less than new premium watches.
Excellent restoration process but I do have to ask….why did you not clean the “stem” that holds the Crown ? The “Stem” shows that it had “RUST” on it, close to the Crown that should have been removed.
I agree with you. After the stem it is easy to replace so I will do it later as well as the regulation of the bit error. I wear the watch for few days and I regulate it again just to make sure everything is in place (oil and greas)
I watch videos made by watchmakers and watch collectors since quite some time now. I like to discover all these classic movements, so precisely and beautifully engineered. Vintage watches are my favorites even if modern watches can be interesting too. I Usually find vintage watches more beautiful, more elegantly designed, and I admire the fact that they can run smoothly and accurately some 70 or 80 years or even more after having been made. I recently discovered your channel and was pleased to see a frenchman making these videos, as most of the time watchmaking videos are made by english or american people. Keep up the good job !
Big lover of pure mechanical vintage watch, the only one who have a soul, really happy to try to resurrected those witness of a heritage. Thanks in advance for your useful videos and wish you all the best for the future ;-) and of course keep my fingers crossed for the giveway 🤞🤞🤞🤞
A beautiful and interesting film as usual. I like that you are describing what you are doing and that you mention al parts by name, it makes it interesting and educational. I’m in the learning process and are practicing on cheap watches, I admire your skill not so much fiddling as I. A question: Do you wash the assembled balance wheel without the shock jewels assembled? My concern is how to clean the pivot on the balance wheel? I try to avoid manual cleaning on the balance staff. I have always been interested in clock and mechanical watches, each timepiece has its soul and history. It would be wonderful to be able to give life and to maintain the ones I have.
Another ‘hyper bon’ video! I much prefer the character of vintage watches. They were also designed to be serviceable rather than disposable. Omega are a real pleasure to work on and reward the investment in regular servicing. Keep up the good work! A+
Great videos! Nice camera work and commentary too. I love vintage watches that you showcase because it always seems to show the incredible quality and attention to detail that was put into them. Keep up the great work. Thanks!
It depends on the age of your Omega. On modern ones you can find oil charts. For the old ones you use general rules and you can find the oils I use in the description of the video
What an amazing transformation! Another fine time piece ready to last another fifty years or more! Love vintage watches as I am becoming vintage myself...
Great job on a great looking watch. I have one of these that has a stainless steel case, but with rose gold colored hands and markers. Like you said, I love the larger size! I am not a fan of date windows so I like the simple dial design.
I love vintage watches because they do not need a baterie and they are beautiful but for me it's so much expensive :) En tout cas bon boulot pour cette reparation ;)
Very nicely done and narrated I can't get over how they were able to design and manufacture such amazing time pieces with minuscule parts 100+ years ago. No CAD, no computer aided manufacturing, just mechanical machinery. Amazing. That's one of the main reasons I love vintage watches and clocks. We see people making replicas these days using CNC machines and electronically guided lathes and we're amazed (at least I am). Can you image how they did it in the Waltham factory in the late 1800s when they didn't even have electricity. Thanks for sharing
There's something about the no nonsense look of an old school three-hander. It's an understated elegance to it that stands the test of time. No pun intended.
Fantastic restoration! I have an Omega automatic caliber 491 that it would love to have a restoration like you did to this current watch. the movement looks so complicated like taking apart a car engine.
Yes it can looks complicated but with time you will master it. If you want to do it yourself, don't do it on an Omega for the first time. Practice with a cheaper watch first
@@FrenchWatchCollector Thanks, I would never try to restore any watch. I would give it to professional like yourself. Beautiful work you do along with your nice vintage Omega collection!
Great video, keep it up :D. I've just got into collecting as well as restoration. I find the service/ restoration process so satisfying, it also allows me to appreciate the watches I have in my personal collection (which at this point is only a collection of two lol) so much more. At this point my collection of tools equals, if not exceeds the cost of my watches aha, no shame in that though.
Good luck with your collection. You have to start somewhere. It will keep growing according to your taste. For sure the tools are expensive and you need a lot of them 😱
A great service to a great popular movement and my birth year Omega.👍 Nice job on the barrel service and bridge to tighten up the pivot hole. Nice and clean on completion and the new strap looks great on it. Love the mechanics on these watches.. Kudos to you. !!
mine is a 1949 but pretty much the same watch. you make it look simple LOL I like watching you but would never attempt a service. I can replace the easy parts like the crystal and maybe stem but.. The stop thingie for the mainspring was loose and the watch would not wind so I was able to at least 'fix' that.
Well, mon Ami, I love vintage watches, because they are the paradigm of the piece that comes from a time in which a lot of things were more real. You had a tool that could be elegant at the same time, but a real tool to measure time nevertheless. It’s not that there are not those things today, you have them and better with today’s technology, but also there is the pretentiousness of luxury above everything, as if the most important part it’s what did you paid for this or that piece. And you are valuable if you have a Rolex, you are not if you have a Casio. So I love watches that come from a time where it was not like that. And by the o way, another Job Fantastique. Merci Beaucoup for the beauty of your craft.
Exactement, you have said it, my friend. The diffference between price and value, and so you have snobs surrounding you, and it goes the root of the word in your beautiful language, it all becomes “sans noblesse”. Merci Beaucoup once again.
Inspiring channel. I'm so glad to see it growing in viewers. I love the look of older Omega movements. I'm on the lookout for a 1967 Omega. Keep up the great work.

Another ‘hyper bon’ video! I much prefer the character of vintage watches. They were also designed to be serviceable rather than disposable. Omega are a real pleasure to work on and reward the investment in regular servicing. Keep up the good work! A+
Thanks Wayne. Glad you liked the video
*Great job. After adjusting the beat error, I wonder if the daily rate will stay inside COSC.*
Thank you. It might be
Great video. Vintage watches give us a connection to the past. We shouldn't discard either our past or these beautiful watches.
Thanks Gregory. For sure we need to keep the history running on these beautiful vintage pieces
Great videos! Nice camera work and commentary too. I love vintage watches that you showcase because it always seems to show the incredible quality and attention to detail that was put into them. Keep up the great work. Thanks!
Thank you James for the support 👍
Vintage watches are lovely because of their design and size. They are the definition of elegance.
It is true that they are different and they bring something else to the table
which oil&grease are ideal for the parts of luxurious watches like OMEGA?
It depends on the age of your Omega. On modern ones you can find oil charts. For the old ones you use general rules and you can find the oils I use in the description of the video
What an amazing transformation! Another fine time piece ready to last another fifty years or more! Love vintage watches as I am becoming vintage myself...
hahaha. Not sure for the 50 years because it will need few services if the watch want to survive another 50 years. Hope it will
Vintage watches are cool and look a lot better than most modern watches. Watching your videos is so soothing and relaxing.
Thank you. Glad I can help you
Great job on a great looking watch. I have one of these that has a stainless steel case, but with rose gold colored hands and markers. Like you said, I love the larger size! I am not a fan of date windows so I like the simple dial design.
It is a great watch. Just take care of it and it will last generation's
I love vintage watches because they do not need a baterie and they are beautiful but for me it's so much expensive :)
En tout cas bon boulot pour cette reparation ;)
Merci. Like I said many times you can find great vintage pieces for 20$ or less. You don't need to spend a fortune
Did clean the rust of the end of the winding stem? Love the history these vintage watches have .
Yes it was not deep
great job, as you always do, 91 sec/day is not a lot for this age....thanks for sharing
Thank you. It is not bad you are right but it is better at the end 😁
Very nicely done and narrated
I can't get over how they were able to design and manufacture such amazing time pieces with minuscule parts 100+ years ago.
I have exactly the same fascination with the vintage watches
For me it's the same thing with old cars. I feal like they have souls. The new ones are made just for money.
This is true 👍
Another great video. I love the character/patina that vintage watches develop. Do you ever attempt to restore the dial?
I can do a light clean but a restoration is a full job on this own
There's something about the no nonsense look of an old school three-hander. It's an understated elegance to it that stands the test of time. No pun intended.
It is true. This is why I like to go back to a simpler watch. The vintage Omega, Jaeger, Movado... that are simple are so beautiful
Great job! Can you tell me what the solution (bottle with red top) you used to clean two of the jewels
It is Epilame. It is not a cleaning solution but a surface treatment
This Omega is not that old it has shock absorbers besides I'm 72
You just have to look at the serial number and it will tell you the year of production
vintage wathces is beautiful engineering.
Yes it is
Great videos getting a lot out of them thanks whats the tool you used for prying the dial off
It is an horotec tool sorry but I don't remember the reference
I love vintage watches because they are beautiful
For sure they are
Thank the watch gods… not another Rolex ❗️
Hahahah
You almost make it look easy! The came4a work is as good as the repair!
Thanks Paul
I love vintage watches because they are made so well.
For sure they are. Especially when you imagine with the technology they had at the timer
Tous ces outils Bergeon me font rêver 🤩 et quel résultat! Cette Oméga est magnifique 👌ou puis je me procurer un tel bracelet ?
Je l’achète sur cousin uk
Fantastic restoration! I have an Omega automatic caliber 491 that it would love to have a restoration like you did to this current watch. the movement looks so complicated like taking apart a car engine.
Yes it can looks complicated but with time you will master it. If you want to do it yourself, don't do it on an Omega for the first time. Practice with a cheaper watch first
@@FrenchWatchCollector Thanks, I would never try to restore any watch. I would give it to professional like yourself. Beautiful work you do along with your nice vintage Omega collection!
I love the quality of vintage movements
They are great indeed
👍
Thank you Thomas
Hi Thomas, You are the winner of the Christmas Giveaway. Please can you answer me on this comment or on Intsagram. Thank you
mine is a 1949 but pretty much the same watch. you make it look simple LOL I like watching you but would never attempt a service. I can replace the easy parts like the crystal and maybe stem but.. The stop thingie for the mainspring was loose and the watch would not wind so I was able to at least 'fix' that.
This is great if you managed to fix it yourself
Why not send it to 'Frenchy' and get a thorough restoration ??
That is very well sais and so true at the same time. I agree with you on the value of things
Thank you. It is thanks to people like you that the channel is growing.
Just discovered your channel. You make great videos!
