A Century Old Omega Watch Restoration - Rusted - Pre WW2 - Silver Casing - cal 40.6 - ASMR

  • In this video I make a restoration of Century old (~100 year) rusted Omega watch. The watch was dead when it came, not running, all of the rusted pivots have jammed it.
I saw this vintage Omega watch at an online auction (sold in my town), it didn't look that special, old Omega watch with oxidized silver casing, nothing to brag about. But…when I came home and opened it, it looked almost like new! It hasn't been used that much for 100 years!
    Instagram:
    / watcheyesone
I polished the silver casing but just did a light one, the backside just with a swipe with a towel so the texture doesn’t get damaged.
About the hour hand that is cracked, it sat tight enough when mounted so it will do good.
After the restoration the watch runs around +/- 15 seconds per day in ALL positions! +/- 1 second per day dial up and down, vertical positions had also around a couple of seconds per day and one position was about 10-15 per day (worst one).

I bought this watch at an online auction just to check if an old pocket watch could be interesting to me.
The seller lives in my town so I just picked it up and went home. At home I opened the watch and realized it looked almost brand new, the movement looks almost untouched for 100 years!Maybe this watch rusted stuck when it was new and then have been left alone for around 100 years.
The watch could be restored without any new parts (except mainspring) and the hour hand seems to work fine.
The performance of this watch is great, it's near 0 +/- seconds per day in every position except one vertical position.

My friend, this is what I call art! The final shots followed by the slow motion made me tear up! Amazing work, amazing watch, just amazing! You could have replaced the hands with blued ones to make it like new, and glue the original hands on the inside of the back cover, not glued permanently, with some sort of soft glue or something.

Those are usually being serviced. They work, but need to be cleaned and oiled, then adjusted to make sure it runs on time again.
But I agree, Watcheyes is a channel that stands out and does great restoration work, not just regular servicing.

All we see is Chinese cheap watches, not the old time really fantastic clockworks that were available long ago. I am very glad to see you at work, and will appreciate a master watch maker such as you much more!! Thank you for a fascinating time.
