A Century Old Omega Watch Restoration - Rusted - Pre WW2 - Silver Casing - cal 40.6 - ASMR

- In this video I make a restoration of Century old (~100 year) rusted Omega watch. The watch was dead when it came, not running, all of the rusted pivots have jammed it.
I saw this vintage Omega watch at an online auction (sold in my town), it didn't look that special, old Omega watch with oxidized silver casing, nothing to brag about. But…when I came home and opened it, it looked almost like new! It hasn't been used that much for 100 years!

I polished the silver casing but just did a light one, the backside just with a swipe with a towel so the texture doesn’t get damaged.
About the hour hand that is cracked, it sat tight enough when mounted so it will do good.
After the restoration the watch runs around +/- 15 seconds per day in ALL positions! +/- 1 second per day dial up and down, vertical positions had also around a couple of seconds per day and one position was about 10-15 per day (worst one).

I bought this watch at an online auction just to check if an old pocket watch could be interesting to me.
The seller lives in my town so I just picked it up and went home. At home I opened the watch and realized it looked almost brand new, the movement looks almost untouched for 100 years!Maybe this watch rusted stuck when it was new and then have been left alone for around 100 years.
The watch could be restored without any new parts (except mainspring) and the hour hand seems to work fine.
The performance of this watch is great, it's near 0 +/- seconds per day in every position except one vertical position.
My friend, this is what I call art! The final shots followed by the slow motion made me tear up! Amazing work, amazing watch, just amazing! You could have replaced the hands with blued ones to make it like new, and glue the original hands on the inside of the back cover, not glued permanently, with some sort of soft glue or something.
@@Cristian8767 many thanks, very glad you liked it! :)

FINALLY! A watch repair channel where a watch is actually being repaired. Ive watched hundreds of just cleaning and oiling a watch that runs from the begining.
Many thanks!
Those are usually being serviced. They work, but need to be cleaned and oiled, then adjusted to make sure it runs on time again.
But I agree, Watcheyes is a channel that stands out and does great restoration work, not just regular servicing.
Your Channel is literally one of the best Restoration channel on RUclips in terms of Cinematography and Filming. Keep it up.
Whaaat 😀 Your too kind! Many thanks.
Beautiful restoration. Blown away at the fact that this watch was created 100 years ago .
I agree, when I opened it and it looked almost untouched for 100 years I knew I wanted to restore it back.
I have one. No glass. 😢
Even “Masterful” is a gross understatement! It was a privilege to watch!
Моё почтение мастеру! Замечательная работа требующая очень много терпения и усидчивости!👏 Тонкая работа , мне очень нравится👍 Не бросайте своё дело ни когда!😊
Love videos like this that show that old watches are more than a match for a lot of the very over hyped and priced watches of today.
Hello Gary, Hope everything is fine! True that, well spoken words! /Josef
This is literally an Omega. They make the "over hyped and priced watches of today."
To see the fly wheel begin to pulse, irresistible, it's the heartbeat of the watch.
Thank you for restoring this old pocket watch back to its former glory.
I didn't just 'LIKE' your work I 'LOVED' it! Absolutely awesome work. God Bless You.
Many many thanks Harsha, bless you 🙏
I am near to 70, and I had forgotten how finely detailed your work can be. We do not see how ultra careful you have to be in your work. All we see is Chinese cheap watches, not the old time really fantastic clockworks that were available long ago. I am very glad to see you at work, and will appreciate a master watch maker such as you much more!! Thank you for a fascinating time.
It is not a restoration, it is a wonderful resurrection. It is so pleasant seeing balancer moving again like a heart 💓
Many thanks! Glad you liked it :)
😅
Excellent choice of watch, fantastic images, and the pleasure of seeing a master at work, bringing true works of art back to life.
I thoroughly enjoy watching the love you put into restoring these little pieces of history.
Wow many thanks Sutekh, I appreciate alot your kind words 😊
@@Watcheyes You’re welcome! Also, I’m not 100% sure but I _think_ the bird singing is a Great Tit.
The camera work on something that small and intricate is superb
Many many thanks Craig and thank you for watching my video 😀
"A last goodbye" to the beautiful movement you very skilfully restored. Poetic.
I love your work, not only the details but also the video and the tools you've use. It's all very satisfying to watch.
Glad you liked it, thank you :)
You have to know what you are doing, and be very patient. This is more than just being a mechanic, you have to have a feeling inside of how things are going. Very calming and interesting to watch !
I would say that your skill displays the height of precision, dedication and technical knowledge. Not everyone can do this.
Wow! Beautiful timepiece. I bet if the watch designer was still alive, he'd be proud of this restoration.
Nice 👍 very. Good
That was amazing. It's so good to watch skilled people at work.

#1 This reminds me of seeing my father rebuilding a four barrel carburetor only much smaller parts!
