Why am I so into Vintage watches? I see the beauty and craftsmanship that went into these pieces. The look and feel cannot be replicated. So many companies have lost touch with their products for money where Vintage manufacturers were about making pieces that could be handed down for generations not just tossed in the trash

I love vintage watches because each has its own history, which we can only imagine now. Some watchmakers would scribe the date and other information into the case back, so sometimes we can have a glimpse into its service history. But when we repair them after sitting in a drawer for many years, they begin a new life!

Another well done and very informative video. I love vintage watches, I started wearing a watch in 1955, a Christmas present from my Mom and Father. I am 72 years old now and always have a watch on my hand. All my watches are manual or automatic. For a short time I had several quartz, however, only have manual now. I feel manual watches have a life, to listen to the ticking and see the movement is a joy to me. Lately I have been wearing a old Citizen automatic I purchased in 1970while in the Air Force. Thank you!

Thanks for this video, FWC. It was very helpful. I had one of these in dire need of a service, and it was my first.
Btw, according to the website, Life on the Wrist:
"VXN indicates that the movement of the watch was imported to the USA market. To avoid high import taxes and duties on watches, Swiss brands for a period of time imported just the movements to the USA. LeCoultre’s brand was managed by the Longines-Wittnauer group in the USA and VXN was the import code used on LeCoultre movements. There is a misconception that VXN meant that Vacheron Constantin imported the movement because Vacheron Constantin watches used the same import code during this time. All this really means is that the US importing company used the stamp code for both brands".
Something interesting I also found out about the signed crowns on these watches. The models made for the European market that read _Jaeger Lecoultre_ on the dial have the "JL" signed crown. The ones just marked _Lecoultre_ for the US market used the "LeC" crown. It can be tough and expensive to find the appropriate signed crowns for these watches either way.

What a nice video and what a nice movement so well finished, I do really love this kind of video, that shows the whole process or servicing!
Why I do love vintage watches?
Well I am relatively new to this world, is 2 years that I fell in love for these horological machines. Since then started learning and discovering always something new and interesting.
But the reason that connect me particurally too vintage watches is not only the beauty but also the sentimental attachment to them.
My grand father was a collector of many things from coins to letters and among these objects pocket watches he had a collection of a dozen of pocket watches and he also had a couple of wrist watches, that were more practical tools than collectables.
Two watches in particular are Longines, one of the 1964 caliber L 341 and one of the 1976 caliber 6312. I love them and take care of them, it is because of those two watches I started my passion for vintage watches and now a days my favourite brand is Longines.

When it comes to Swiss movements, they are generally more robust and practical with the watchmaker servicing and reassessing in mind. Very interesting and unusual movement. I like it very much. Hmm, but the strap lugs... they are kind a odd shape 🤔

The springs are really special. I wonder if I can replace a boring spring with such a beautiful elegant spring?

That will be a lot of machining and time to redo a spring like the yoke spring on this model

4:10 first time i can see such a nice power indicator
(but finally easy ... unless for realignment maybe ...)
15:30 "I" like vintage watches from your channel ... because "You" know how to restore them ...🤣
(i have a longines conquest calendar {steel ?} from the 50th probably .. from my grand grand father (i never met him) ... still working but not yet restored, i'm in france)

True that is not so complicated. The magic is on the part next to the barrel assembly with a wheel at 90 deg. This part is beautiful and well engineered

8:00 still figuring out how it works : it's a reduction system for the power indicator ? (which is on the other side ...)
it looks like some kind of "differential" between the "barrel wheel" and the "ratchet wheel" (see 7:13): is some way counts the turn difference between the two ?
at first i was thinking its easy to get a power indicator ... but that's not so obvious, since both are always turning ...

@@SQueme Yes the part is to transmit the info from the barrel to the power indicator. It can slide as well like the clutch when it is at full power indication

I love the fact you will leave an error in your video like not getting the mainspring in right at first so I won't feel worse if I were to do similar.

Superbe !... Et quelques belles originalités dans ce mouvement. J'aimerais connaître les hommes et les machines qui élaborent ces mécanismes délicats, c'est passionnant, voire envoûtant...
