capital one preQualify asks for your whole SSN. Don't do it. It's a hard pull.

Soft pull, after the pre qualification if pre approved to they will ask you to actually apply with all the concerning details...I have done it 3 times...and I have 3 cards with them...

Only on a prequal, pretty sure they haven't had a prequal since last year so yes it would be a hard pull. They will tell you on the page if its soft pull.

I have 16 inquiries on my report but have nothing derogatory and have a good score. What cards will not disqualify me for too many inquiries?

I don't know of any, PNC will do like 11-12 inq sometimes but 99% of banks will start to deny at 7 inq. Get some inq removed first then go through some on the prequal list

That said, Cap1 will only allow 2 cards with them, don't think that is set in stone but I would ditch the lower limit if you can or see if you can product change. We have an automatic Product change/upgrade link on our site, its weird and makes you login twice to Cap1 but will tell you if you can upgrade.
