"I am horrible at chain gangs." That makes you the perfect person for doing this video as anyone who watches this video and is new to this will be able to relate.
Hi Max, one thing to consider when cornering or going through bends is to try and pedal through it if you can and not free wheel. Not always possible if a tight turn but something to try as naturally most cyclist free wheel through most bends and corners. Its something ive been developing this spring, and it's really helped in maintaining pace through corners.
Thank you, one of the things im trying to work on is mentally getting comfortable with the length of my cranks and pedalling while leaning into a turn. Something to work on
Agree with all the above, when on the front it is vital that you don't push out of corners, it is so easy to feel you need to pull the group back up to speed, if you do that all you achieve is splintering the group. Communication is key, if gaps start appearing shout forward, a few soft pedals can bring everyone back together without losing much speed over all. Great work
You do well 👍 your vlogs are very constructive and a learning curve for people like me that want to have a go at group riding at speed/ chaingang and preparation for crit racing 👍
Argh, drops aren't aero, they're for sprinting and improving control through turns. Hands on the hoods, stay low, relax in shoulders and elbows and have as close to a 90 degree bend in the elbows yon can.
You’ve missed the point. Drops are still aero. They’re just not AS aero. I’d be on my drops as much as possible in a group ride for stability and brake lever accessibility. Sure, get tucked in when pulling on the front or away solo, but drops is more secure…and still aero.
@vicman763 I’m the same as you- I can hold the hoods with forearms on the bars for longer than I can hold drops. I use the drops as a rest from the hoods and then get back on the hoods.
Nice one, Max. Do you use a heart rate monitor out on the road? It's a great half way house between power meter and riding on just "feel". In fact, it's *almost* a substitute for a power meter if you don't have one. Cheers 👍
@Vicman763 yeah I actually do, didn’t think about switching to an HR page. I run based on HR a lot, my HR is a lot less varied on the bike though. Still a good metric
another great video - like the style - keep doing what you do. big lesson from this one? mechanical shifter FTW! Don't see the appeal of DI2 / AXS. Just another thing to worry about / charge batteries etc.

Like the honest approach with your channel, not everything is perfect or edited out. Really refreshing
Thanks Mike. I wouldn’t have anything to post if I tried to just share the perfect stuff hahah

Exactly. Keep practising. Makes it much easier to hold a wheel.

Ben's missing a damn leg and still flying around faster than I could ever dream!
You might be horrible at group rides. But you are world class at making excuses. 100% hit rate in every video!
Let’s not mistake reviewing/analysing what happened for making excuses.
I’m not hiding from my mistakes clearly… they are there for everyone to see

You did really well mate.. great tips 😊 🚴🏻👍 Pete
Thanks Pete. Back next week to go faster
Another option to group rides... Which I wish I had where I lived is road bike time trials, which seem pretty popular in the UK
Good to see you're progressing, great fun.
What model/lens are the Sungods?
Cheers. These are the SunGod Airas with the blue high visibility lenses. Turns out ive needed them more than id like in the summer
I just realised one of the guys only has one lower leg !!!!! Fair play !!!
I believe he’s had some good results in the British Para Champs

Agreed Saracen, I ride the drops in the pack or on the front. Only on the hoods when taking a breather
How long can you hold an aero hoods position? It's probably less time than you could spend in the drops by a significant margin
@@matthewmccullagh6023 - personally, I find it's the other way around: aero hood easier to sustain, than drops! 👍😊🤷🏻♂️

The SunGods fit your face and helmet colour well. What model and lens colour are they? Assume that lens is good in bright sun also? Thanks
They are the low light (i think they are called HV High Visability) SunGod Airas.
i absolutely HATE saddle clamps like that. I had one on an oldskool Orbea and cursed at it often!
Ever get a solution that worked at keeping it level?
What sunnies are those? Look pretty cool
They are the SunGod Arias, but they have a low light lens in them because British summer isn’t doing a good job

I do absolutely LOVE my electric shifters but wow, they can be annoying
Riding while holding a camera ?
Is that a question?
It's kind of dangerous, if you hit a pothole you'll likely crash.
It’s not even your horrible at chain gangs max. You’re learning and learning fast. Your maybe just a little erm disorganised 😜
I have every laid out and ready now for Tuesday (and this is on monday evening) Determined to not be caught out this week
@@thewattlife brilliant fair played. Enjoy :) have you managed to sort the saddle tilting issue?
I’ve torqued it up to about 7nm. I’ve emailed the brand but haven’t heard back about it yet.
It hasn’t slipped since though…
@@thewattlife that’s the main thing nothing worse than sliding onto the top tube when your trying to put power down :)
