Have you ever noticed how retired pro cyclists look less depressed than current pro riders. Your energy looks good on you Alex. I was worried when you were still pro - looked fatigued constantly, which comes thru in disposition. welcome back to more balanced energy
I actually kinda liked the blurriness - added to the "holy sh*t it's early and I'm tired" vibe you were giving 😜 also i have that LeCol aero suit too, really like it but hate where the pockets are placed - can't put my phone in it cause it digs into my hip bones, good thing there's a race radio pocket lol
That was pigging fascinating! I love the combination of challenging competition and mutual support to push yourselves hard - what a tough cycle ride! And great fun
Seeing as you mentioned it, I’ve wondered how you cope with haemophilia when you are out on a ride. Do you have to carry anything with you that the rest of us don’t? Or can you take care of things at home before you set out? You are an inspiration. Maybe if you explain the practical issues you’ve sorted out, others might realise what they can achieve. Could be a video in it. This was a great video, by the way.
Joining the Leeds Chaingang would be interesting - going out into Wharfedale using the roads used in the Tour de Yorkshire/Leeds Classic etc. I used to be able to hang on to the halfway point back in the day with some riders who eventually rode in the TDF out sometimes - and in recent times where Tom Pidcock cut his teeth!
Lovely grinding 😅 it would be a great footage if you can put your gopro on the bike. And put overlay of stats in the video like norcal cycling/vegan cyclist. It would be fun to see that kind of footage these chaingang meetings/races. Keep up the good work💪💪🔥
@@AlexDowsettOfficial Depending on what computer mount you're using, the K-Edge GoPro Combo mount is a great solution to mount the camera on the front of the bike and out of the way.
Harry Tanfield used to race our evening 'sporting' time trial course for training and covered the 8.5 mile course, when he was home, on his canyon TT bike, averaging 30 mph at seamer near Stokesley in Cleveland, nobody got anywhere near him, animal. I only ever managed that course at 25.5 mph when I was younger at 40 years old.
i had to pause the video on the peak speed screenshot. Wholly what in the f%&^, thats insanely fast. Let not ignore the fact they did 100km in 2 hrs 20 minutes. Just mind boggling fast!!!!
I race TT, so I'm nowhere near punchy. You know what kicked my butt and you can race more than once a day? Cyclocross. You'll be dead. You can beat them in a TT, but punchy cross stuff for an hour? Game over. If you get on a wide open course where the engine matters more, you'll be more at home, but a man made course through a park for example, you'll be hurting. It's good to get some intensity in.
The map function on it, for its clarity is class leading by a country mile and it does everything else well. I have a surplus of Garmins so I use them for now, mounting them to proprietary bike mounts is much easier than the Karoo's underside.
@@AlexDowsettOfficial fair enough. You know it has a Garmin attachment for it though? I agree on the navigation. Battery life is the only downside for me
True, it just then sits a little higher than i'd like. And their own attachment is so neat when it's located, we had a great setup on the ostro with that
I remember chaingangs as a kid in Liverpool. They were brutal. God knows our speed at the time but occasionally a pro cyclist would turn up just to make it even harder. Us teenagers would eventually get spat out of the back and make our way home solo. Depressing but loved it now the pain is a distant memory.
I will admit this different to the donny chaingang speaking first hand, it is alot more social to start with then there is a point where it turns into through and off.
Alex it would be really good to see you out with Thomas Martinez the cycling tattooist he is not far from you i think Leigh on sea,he is a really strong up and coming rider and does regular chain gangs as well, and they are pretty quick....
Not saying the wouldn't,but it would be good too see Alex out with him as they are close to each other but hey they are doing 25-26 average on a gang, and hes knocking out a 20 on a 10 so see how they fair! @@savthecyclist5772
We do a weekly chain gang of 33 miles at (all-time-best) 27Mph over here, but no traffic lights and all-flat, so mostly a 300W effort for approx. 1h15. Lots of cross-winds so awesome to ride echelons. Your ride was much more brutal in terms of elevation, distance and wattage!
Brutal. I don't know how you can ride like that at the best time of the day, let alone so early in the morning. It makes me want to puke just thinking about it.
I back cyclist to the hilt, but ‘racing’ chain gangs on the public road is not the place to do them. I’m sure if they can afford sl8’s & the like the they could go to a closed circuit where their safety would be much better.

Alex v Chaingangs of the Uk. Could be a whole series in there somewhere.
I'd love to see this
Great idea
Let’s go🤘
Yup yup yup! 💪🦾🦿🦵
Make it in a pub car park

Great video. New series? Donny chain gang next!
The fact that you start before it is even properly light already makes it the hardest chaingang.
Would love to see you cover a more typical Tuesday night UK chajngag
Brilliant content Alex (I Grind) Dowsett, look forwards to watching the whole hardest chain gangs from around the World Series!
Got to love an unapologetically fast chaingang.
Yeah, I love watching them on video 🤣

A gentlemanly knife fight.
Glad to see you still having fun, Alex.
Ha…. I reckon they’ve adopted old classic, let’s work over the new guy…. !! Haha
Rumour has it the first half hour was a touch spicier than normal
i love how they all talk to each other without really talking to one another
We love this content Alex!
I think, a couple of Swifties a Turner and a Downing may have something to say.

Looks brutal! Hope you’re looking forward to nationals next weekend, course is a fast one!
I recon you should come out on the Leeds chaingang fella, going up the chevin is a really killer
You should try one of Alex’s Brighton and back ride. 100+ miles in just over four hours 🤯
I can only dream of going that fast. Brilliant stuff. 👏 😊
I’ve tried to jump on Alex’s wheel in richy park before, I lasted about 25 seconds 👌🏼 great blokes and an inspiration to any amateurs
Impressively motivating, well done gents!! Jeez😮
Need more of those!!
Brilliant content Alex. Awesome. Cannot believe how slippery and hard that pack ride. And getting up before 4. Great content. Hard Knox that.
Only the ones with real confidence wear their helmets during a coffee stop💪💪💪
And those that are so wasted they forget they're still wearing one!😂
Come to the Tring one. Lumpy route, bumpy roads, total chaos
Great video Alex. Thanks for sharing.
Come do the rides in Adelaide BUT bring a proper road bike if you want to keep up. ;)
The Adelaide CG from Glenelg is rapid.
The dinnington chaingang was the original fastest cg about 50% of the turnout were full time and they had already done 4 hours in the morning.
Brutal ride, Alex! Keep up the great content from a fellow Essex rider (but not as fast 😂)! 👍

Blown away by the speed so I looked up Alex Dowsett- incredible rider!
