    They knock you off the bike and the pull out a machete, your life means nothing to them and they should be prosecuted for attempted murder.

    I live very close to Richmond Park where this took place and am in a local cycle club. I train in the park several times per week where Alex was robbed. The whole community was horrified and we started trying to go out in pairs or small groups. These scumbags are horrendous and they are only teenagers.

    My bike is over 6 years old, but when new retailed for a bit over $15k, US. (My employee discount was substantial.) I was concerned about being robbed while on solo rides, and while the bike is no longer worth that amount I'm still observant when out alone.

    My purple carbon Cannondale was just stolen 2 months ago. It was a $3,700 used bike that I used for exercise and to get around. I have to save for months, sometimes for years for a nice bike. I'm tired of the homeless of L.A. stealing for their drug habits! The LAPD are worthless! One detective to look for hundreds of stolen bikes! My local bike shop has told me to put an Airtag or two hidden DOWN inside. They're going to help me do the setup. I would suggest this for the young man you interviewed. That way even if they strip the bike down, most are too stupid to look inside the tubes. You increase your chances of finding it. Los Angeles is a bike black hole. W/o some GPS locator or Airtag on it, you'll never see it again.

      That's sucks. Were you robbed in the same way?

    • @elizabethpoley6882
      @elizabethpoley6882 Год назад

      To Glennoc8585 No. I have my bike anchored on the wrought iron pool fence w/a Kryptonite U-lock. I always lock a cover down over the bike for added protection. That day my knees hurt so bad (birth defect) that I didn't want to go back down w/the cover. That night someone (I think the new neighbor in 204) used liquid nitrogen to freeze the lock and break it right off. They walked right out the back door w/it. There's no camera on the back door into the parking lot or exit at the side gate. There's a camera on the front door and back alley exit only. Someone cased the area. Plus, our great security guard was on duty that night! I will never make the mistake of no cover again...no matter how much pain I'm in. A locked cover makes it harder to steal...they can't see where to put the nitrogen or acid. "Someone" was waiting for a mistake. 204 looks right down on where I park the bike. He had just moved in a few weeks before. We haven't had a theft problem for over 8 years. I don't believe in coincidences.

    Is there a good description of the thieves? It will help people keep aware of their surroundings.

    In America they would’ve been shot, which exactly why these types of things happen in places like England

    It's disgusting. This type of thing is a daily occurrence in SA. It is so bad here in Cape Town, cycling slightly out of suburbia solo, you are putting your life in danger. Cyclists are often driven off the road by motorists, who don't even know they knocked into you and will drag you along for miles. We have a major event during the early part of each year, and the amount of cycling deaths when riders are out training around this time , is ridiculous. Cyclists are not save and I think why gravel biking is so popular. Thanks for a great show. Annelise

    One could be forgiven for thinking that our society is going down the pan..what used to be considered ‘Christian’Values and Ethics rubbished and ridiculed by a growing Woke’ism. Evil and Subversion celebrated,whilst Moral’s and Truth eradicated! Don’t know what to say. Have been passionate about cycling for decades. Cyclists are vulnerable and easy victims. Violent Criminals are protected by ‘human rights’ ,whilst one can be arrested for silently praying outside an abortion clinic.FFS!!!

      My £5k mountain bike got stolen by a white British male. Lots of witnesses saw him. The town in Cheshire I live in is dominantly "white", with very little foreigners and burglaries and theft are just as bad as anywhere else.
