- Although the first time I tried digging holes and carefully positioning heavy concrete footings didn't exactly go as planned, today is a new day. I'm getting right down to it today where I put my excavator back to the test to dig down deep in hopes that I can carefully align the concrete footings I need in order to set and align 16 foot posts for my pole barn. This won't be easy but I'm not quitter. Here goes! (Episode 7)

Awesome progress brother , so far so good 👍 . Thanks for sharing !!!!! 😊🙏👍❤️
It's going to be a great complex. Efficient yard. Glad we are along for the process.
Good job Sandy. Glad the rebar and saddle held!
2 down 4 to go. By the time you get post number 6 installed, you'll be an expert at it. 🤣
This is where water tank would be useful to you you should I introduce some moisture into the sandy soil which helps with compaction that you were putting in and you should for every foot of soil you put in compact it with a hand tap compactor
Nice work. Getting all the tools involved. Good vid. Thanks.
Looking good Sandy! Paint job on the mini-X is holding up well too!
Good close-ups, really shows off the equipment.
good job. Easier than I thought it would be
Good afternoon, Sandy! It sure is fun watching you play in your big sandbox, lol. A definite improvement with the skidloader. A beautiful sunny fall day (October 5th, 17C). Greetings from Peterborough.
Looks like a soccer goal for now
But soon we’ll see that with the right tools, you sure do the work ✊👍
Way to go Sandy.
If it can be envisioned it can be done, no turning back.
👍great video
I would use the forks on the tractor, set the post between forks just to keep semi straight, and two by fours run on angle to plumb them up. An IBC tote with a plastic tote, fill with water to help settle the sand for compaction around post. If the women don't find you handsome lesse they'll find you handy.ha ha
MUCH BETTER on this one, Sandy!! How close to 'real time' are your videos? I/.E. how long ago did you dig and set this post? Just gives me and the readers an idea of how far along you actually are. (The shed might even be built by now, depending on when you shot this video and put it up on the channel). When you're digging with the mini, turn the crawler around so the dozer blade is behind you and set on the ground as you dig. That'll give you far more stability and you won't be lifting the front quite so much.
For the next shed (What do you mean, Not In This Lifetime!)... I would build the concrete base and set it in the hole (all 6 of them), then measure to find the precise point for a perfectly square rectangle. Drill a hole for the Strongtie and epoxy it into the concrete, and then set the posts. Alas... this is a VERY EASY project when I'm sitting here watching you do it! Take care, buddy!!
You seem to be doing a great job, even without me as an arm chair quarterback,. Something I would do differently.. I would put the two support boards way higher. For one thing, you went through all the trouble of putting tar on the ground area of the 4X4 only to drill holes in it. Second, they seem to be getting in the way when you backfill the holes. Drive some stakes in the ground some distance away from the hole. Screw a single screw into the the support board at the stake. Then once you have the 4x4 in position, you can raise the support board higher (4 or 5 feet) and screw it to the 4X4. I just think it would make it easier to backfill without the 4X4 moving, as I see it's doing in your video. Great progress!
I can only imagine how difficult it must be with all the arm chair advice but I can't help but chime in. What would you think about using the posts you have prepared to lower the footings into the hole already attached.
Did you change your mind on stone before your precast Sandy or did I miss something,? Thanks wishing you all the very best.
Did you put gravel in this hole
