Guys like you are a big help to those that don't feel the desire to throw out reliable machines and empty our bank accounts for newer, often less reliable machines. Thanks for taking the time to show us the process.
You are most welcome. I believe in getting the most from my investments in all the things I own. If it can be easily repaired at a low cost, I will go for it every time (and make a video) LOL. If it costs more to repair than buying a fully functioning used model then it's time to let it go. Glad I could help. Thank you for watching, commenting and the kind words. I appreciate it greatly. All the best.👍😀
Damn. This isn't my machine, or even that close other than I also have a front loader. But! I watched the entire video just because of the step by step instructions and clarity of both the filming and the explanations. There's a whole lot of people posting how to videos that could learn from this gentleman.
Buddy said to buy a new machine. After checking that expensive option, I was ready to call the repairman. Wife said to watch your video. I did. Towards the end I discovered the exact problem and the solution: replace the wax motor. Amazon had the part delivered in under a day and the machine was up and running again in 15 minutes. Thanks so much! You saved me a fortune.
You are most welcome. Thank you for watching, commenting, the valuable feedback and the kind words. I appreciate it greatly. I am happy to know I could help. All the best
Brilliant instructions! This video resulted in me being able to fix my machine. I took the Motor Carbon Brushes off for inspection, cleaned them, fixed them back on and the machine is now back up and running! I also ordered replacement carbon brushes because they are running very low and will need changing within 3 to 6 months I guess. Thank you for the video, it saved me buying a new machine!
We have exactly this model. A few years ago we had that problem of the final spin avoiding it's 'frantic' mode. I disconnected this, reconnected that, nothing helped, then I gave up on it for the day and the next day it just started working properly! I have no idea what I did, but it has been working for 6 years since then with no problems. However, if it DOES act up again, at least you've given me the knowledge to check that wax motor connector which I suspect worked itself loose and I maybe bumped it back into place by accident. BTW you are one the clearest most concise teachers I've ever encountered. Thanks much!
You are most welcome. That wax motor is a very strange component but if it does go on you, you can replace just the wax motor. Here it is on Ebay: goo.gl/1T1WLL Thank you very much for commenting, watching and the kind words. All the best.
Great vid... I must say though. The very first thing that you should tell people when dealing with this issue is to check the plastic filter in the drain hose. I just found $8.87 in my filter, and now it works fine. I almost spent $249 on a new board and motor. This was a free and easy fix.
I prayed to God to fix my washing machine but got fed up waiting for him to respond. Watched this video and fixed it myself. Praise be to Richards sermon.
Thank you for this video! Very detailed. I rescued my washer from the trash. Had to reconnect a burnt point in the board with solder and it worked great for the last 4 years. I took my shoe switch apart cleaned it and put it back together and it's working again. Thanks for the awesome video.
After week and week watching other video waisted too much money on parts I find your video no body talk about the belt only you after I checked the belt in my washer I find the problem I was going to get a knew washer your video saved me $700 thank you very much your video very helpful
WOW! You are most welcome. I am glad to know I could help. Thank you for watching, commenting and the kind words. I appreciate it greatly. All the best.👍😀
Thanks very much for a helpful video. Our machine intermittently will not go into the final high speed spin. But we have discovered that it seems it will do the high speed spin if the front of the machine is raised about 1.5 inches. Seems like it would be worthwhile for me to replace the door switch, but if you have any other ideas, that would be great! The drive belt appears OK, but the big pulley looks like it is not perfectly true and the drive belt is not perfectly centered on the big pulley. I don't know if that matters. The belt is not rubbing on anything. Thanks again for your help!
You're most welcome. All the best.👍😀 I'm glad and very happy to know that I could help you. Thank you so much for watching, commenting and the valuable feedback. I appreciate it greatly. All the best.👍😀
@@richardlloydusa Thanks for responding Richard. Your saving guys like me tons of money and time. I had my part ordered and fixed within 3 days after it broke. Thanks!
Hi Richard, thank u very much for this video. I have the exact machine and problem u had and its all fixed. I got the parts off Amazon, but they sent holders with a different configuration. I thought I had to return them but I used the brushes from these to replace the worn ones. The part where u showed how to take the holders apart sure helped. My wife is so happy she can wash clothes at home again!
It appears that neither link to the carbon brushes are still valid. Any chance you could give us some more info to track down a replacement? Thanks. Great Vid.
Thank you so much for this video. It was super informative and saved us from purchasing another washer. Had a difficult time sourcing carbon brushes for the motor. We ended up measuring the carbon brushes and sourced them through a local electric motor repair place. Thanks again!!
Hey Richard, excellent video lots of detail. I repaired my dryer bearing using your instruction. Now my washer won't spin or tumble. The door latch was broken, but replacing it (cheapest first option) didn't fix it. Brushes look good, but I'm not clear about the commutator. It looks worn and black vs robust and shiny like in yours. I don't see a video about replacing the motor. Also I don't want to drop $200 in a motor unless I'm sure that's it. I have a good pic of the commutator if you can respond. Or anyone.
I cant post pictures here, unfortunately. The commutator should be somewhat worn where the brushes make contact and slightly discolored but still a darkened copper color. Now the brushes should slide out quite far when you remove the assembly. If the brushes only extend out an 1/4 of an inch or less to the tip from the housing when you remove the brush assembly (two Philips screws to take each off UNPLUG the unit before checking), then you are near the end of the wear of the brush. What happens is that though there is still brush left and it (looks good) it is not long enough to actually make contact with the commutator. So remove the brush assembly and see how much brush you see when you do that. Thanks.
A Kenmore identical to yours. 20+ years and my first problem is that it will not spin and the timer will not advance. It enters the spin cycle area on the dial and stops until I turn it off, no advance no spin. Before the problem started, I sprayed silicone into the door latch mechanism for lubrication purposes . Any suggestions for repair?
Good news is that the second set of brushes I got did work on my washer (Frigidaire Model 417.39022890 mfg date 08/98). I had to flip the carbon pieces, which aren't quite as tall as OEM, around so the angle matched the bracket tabs. Ebay seller trustyhl item #AEG-62730W (package also has GD062730W-1). Made for AEG apparently.
I would have done the same. If the part is good keep and let it wear. You will probably get lots of use out of the part before it wears out and when it does you have the replacement on hand. Always keep a spare. Thank you for commenting and the valuable feedback. I appreciate it greatly. All the best. 👍😀
Have you noticed that they both have a great big "R" on them? The second one, that you said was the one on the left, had a big R. Wouldn't that make some difference? Since you are talking about how the slope should match, and one should switch them if one doesn't match, could that be how both of yours have a big "R" on them? That the case, which perhaps doesn't matter, is labelled, so it could be labelled R on both of them and be okay because you switched it around?
I have this machine and do like it. We started to have this loud noise during the spin cycle. I called the repair and man and was told that the tube bearings were bad. The repair man also said to just get a new washer. I have found many RUclips videos on people replacing the bearings. I did get new ones but what is you thoughts ?
I have video's on how to change the bearings on this machine start with this one here to check it: ruclips.net/video/oEXtkOQ5LUY/видео.html and this video will show you how to change the bearing: ruclips.net/video/CFuosqBhfRc/видео.html Look in the video description for links to the parts. Thanks.
This might help also...in my case..it's what I found in my drain hoses/attachment...plugged solid with coins and dirt of course...part of a steel contour of a bra...and paper clips... there's a container which stops stuff from damaging the unit...in that attachment where 3 connections are made with clamps ..after cleaning...worked perfectly
Can you help me? My machine seems to operate properly except it won't tumble during the wash cycle. I have replaced the door latch mechanism, the shock absorbers, and the motor controller. I even cleaned out the coin trap and drain assembly. Any in site would be great.
If it does not turn at all check the drive belt. Other than that I would say your best bet at this point is have a trusted trained tech (check yelp or google reviews) look at it. Thank you so much for commenting. I appreciate it greatly. All the best.👍😀
I have a very similar model, Gibson (Electrolux) model GTF1040AS0, where the spin cycle fails to work only on the regular wash mode. It will go through the preceding cycles normally; but when it gets to the spin cycle, the motor will run like it wants to start the spin, but never actually does. The other two modes (Perm press, Knits) work normally. Would a front door switch still resolve the issue, even though it's only happening on regular wash?
I don't belive it's the front door switch because that would affect every cycle of the machine not just the regular cycle. Here's a discussion on the likely causes: www.justanswer.com/appliance/2rylu-spin-cycle-gibson-front-load-no-longer-spins.html Understand that I have not had this problem so I can't answer this for sure. If you're going to attempt a repair by replacing parts make sure you buy them from a place like Amazon where you can easily return the part if it is not the source of the problem. Ask what the return policy is before you buy. Thank you so much for commenting and watching. I appreciate it greatly. All the best.👍😀
I'm not sure that the last person didn't replace both brushes. I looked at my original ones (19 years old!) and they look exactly like that where the outboard one is worn much more than the inboard. Looks like the cheapest option now is to buy L versions so I'll just swap the innards.
I agree. The carbon rods are the only part that wears so if you are handy replacing those is the cheapest option. The problem I found is finding the rods. Thank you for watching, commenting and the valuable feedback. I appreciate it greatly. All the best. 👍😀
@@richardlloydusa I had the right idea, but on the L ones I got the carbon was thinner than the OEM so it wouldn't work in the original brush holders. :( I found some that are R but shorter and wider that maybe I can get to work. I don't get why these are hardly available in the US anymore. They seem quite common in the UK (though maybe not the exact ones I need).
I have a Kenmore 417.43042200. It looks exactly like this washer on the front, controls, door, etc. BUT... the motor looks completely different. No brushes to be found mounted on the outside. Any ideas?
If it is one of these issues, can you still spin the drum by hand? My drum won't even budge manually. Before I check these three items, I want to make sure.
Richard, was experiencing a similar issue you addressed, entering the final wash,it loads some water, pauses and pretty much stalls until I pull, rotate timer one notch & push in, then continues to load water and continues "full tilt boogie" like there was nothing wrong. After reading all the other comments and your valuable advise, insight and experiences in such matters, I only got $0.39 cents out prior to the pump, belt was ok and thought about the odds and rolled the dice spending the $18.00 with Amazon The door switch arrived before the ETA, installed and had visions of getting off the Mrs's PoPo list! However I obviously missed something, because it is still doing the same thing,..any suggestions?
I found all parts on the repairclinic site my unit just won’t agitate or spin got a new motor 👎🏽 not the problem waiting on the speed control mother board ? Hope that’s it !! Machine with run water drain I hear the knock working ? Belt is good
I hope the board fixes it for you. Please report back. Thank you so much for watching, commenting and the kind words. I appreciate it greatly. All the best.👍😀
Great video, thanks. One Question tho so it doesn’t lock & i replaced both front peace’s why doesn’t it want to lock nor spin, what do I have to do to get it to lock
Is the striker on the door broken? I show it in the video. Take a look and see if it is broken. It's the white tang on the door. It should look the same as what I show if it is a Frigidaire like mine. Thanks again.
Here is the troubleshooting from repair clinic www.repairclinic.com/RepairHelp/How-To-Fix-A-Washing-Machine/49---/Washer-door-or-lid-won-t-lock Outside of this I would recommend a service call to see what the problem is. Thank you.
Is there a reset technique for Kenmore 417 front load washer??? I replaced the door switch, the drain pump, the water inlet valve, the control board, and today I changed the motor. It clicks on and that's it.........................
Our washer has been making a kind of clicking noise and tonight with a heavy load it stopped spinning. Even with a load it doesn't spin, but there is a rough motor noise. Any ideas? I will open it up this week.
is there a hidden spot on there that has the model #? The sellers actually scratched mine off. They would not explain why but admitted to doing it. I have had her since the 2000s and it works very well until it did not.
Ok so i have a washer that will fill with water and will pump it out. door does lock. So that means my issue is more likely with the motor? As for the switch mechanism can you test it with a dvm? what readings should i get? BTW i had to reconnect the top connector on the switch from above because mine someone taped the wire so it barely comes out at all and i had to the switch hole to attempt to reconnect connector. Thanks.
The drive belt may have come off or worn out. Check and see the state of the drive belt. It could also be various other things but that is the "usual" reason. Thank you so much for commenting and watching. I appreciate it greatly. All the best.👍😀
The carbon brush & holders are no longer available on amazon, my left carbon brush looked just like the one in your video and the right was fine. Hope that is what the problem ends up being because I will be waiting 2 to 3 weeks for the part!! lol
I'm not sure of what you mean by "water dispensing". Do you mean water leaking out or the washer actually filling with water? Thank you so much for commenting and watching. I appreciate it greatly. Subscribe, Click The Bell and stay tuned! All the best.👍😀
My assumption here is that this is a top loader. Some washers do stop filling when you raise the lid and some do not, so that's not a good test of the switch, but they all stop the washing and spin function when you open the lid. So if the machine goes through a washing cycle but does not stop when you open the lid on the wash or spin cycle you know you have a bad switch. It could also fail in the other way where the machine thinks the door is always open and at that point the machine will not go into the washing cycle (but may fill normally depending on the machine). I hope that helps. Thank you so much for commenting and watching. I appreciate it greatly. Subscribe, Click The Bell and stay tuned! All the best.👍😀
My top load whirlpool washer is set to wash. The fill and lid lock buttons glow but nothing happens for many minutes Then the lid lock button eases to light and the machine begins to fill. Following this the water drains off and spins. No wash. How do I solve this
Sir I have a Washing machine which brand is Sharp,, the problem is washing machine taking water and door also lock but the machine is not spinning. What is the problem?
I suggest checking the drive belt. It may have worn out or snapped. Thank you so much for commenting and watching. I appreciate it greatly. All the best.👍😀
Richard, thank you for a very informative video. I have a Kenmore Washer Model: 417 47102700 that looks identical to the Frigidaire shown but the motor is different (No brushes). The door latch is in good shape and the Door Lock Light comes on when the door is closed and the unit started; allowing the unit to go through a cycle. The pump is free of all debris and the unit fills and pumps water out OK. The belt is in good shape and connected to the motor. I can see the motor spin when I spin the drum freely by hand. The problem is the motor will not spin during any part of the wash / spin cycle with the belt on or off. Recommendations?
I have the same problem now. Looks like a brushless motor. I've run the tests in the guide from inside the washer and found nothing wrong. I'm stumped.
I'd like to see a full wash cycle with a full load of everyday cotton clothes on the regular heavy duty cycle so we can see the normal operation of these frigidaire tumble action galleries.
Hey, so I commented on one of your other videos that I couldn’t get the belt on, well I finally did that and I hooked my washer back up and now it’s not doing anything at all! Previously the problem was just that it wouldn’t spin now it’s not even starting, the door lock light comes on but that’s it! Please help 🥺
More than likely you have a broken door stryker at Amazon: amzn.to/3vO0dMs or a broken door lock switch assembly: amzn.to/3dkcQbO Make sure to look and see that the parts are compatible and that they look the same although if your stryker is broken it will be missing a piece. I can't see why not? I am sure English washing machines use the same operating principles. Thank you for watching and commenting. I appreciate it greatly. All the best.👍😀

Kenmore 417.48102701 will not start. Previously made it to the " drain, fill, rinse, and spin dry " cycle and quit. I replaced the door switch, drain pump, and complete control panel. When I try to start from any wash method there is a click, the lights go on, but NOTHING HAPPENS...... Is it the motor???????? Thank you.
My spider shaft or spinner support has complacently corroded and I can't find the part for my Kenmore Washer model # 41740142000 Any help would be appreciated. Thank TC

Can you hear it click in an attempt to lock? Thank you for watching and commenting. I appreciate it greatly. All the best.👍😀
Yes I hear a click when it goes in but nothing else
Is the striker on the door broken? I show it in the video. Take a look and see if it is broken. It's the white tang on the door. It should look the same as what I show if it is a Frigidaire like mine. Thanks again.
Not broken at all
Here is the troubleshooting from repair clinic www.repairclinic.com/RepairHelp/How-To-Fix-A-Washing-Machine/49---/Washer-door-or-lid-won-t-lock Outside of this I would recommend a service call to see what the problem is.
Love the detail you put into your videos. I always learn something new! Thx for sharing

is there a hidden spot on there that has the model #? The sellers actually scratched mine off. They would not explain why but admitted to doing it. I have had her since the 2000s and it works very well until it did not.
Thank you very much for this video it helped me indirectly to repair the wax motor in my machine almost miraculously.

Thanks.
Very good job of explaining....thank you
My drum will not move at all at first it was bearly spinning and. Now it’s not . What could it be ?
The drive belt may have come off or worn out. Check and see the state of the drive belt. It could also be various other things but that is the "usual" reason. Thank you so much for commenting and watching. I appreciate it greatly. All the best.👍😀
@@richardlloydusa thank you I will look at the drive belt . Your channel is the best

The carbon brush & holders are no longer available on amazon, my left carbon brush looked just like the one in your video and the right was fine. Hope that is what the problem ends up being because I will be waiting 2 to 3 weeks for the part!! lol
Could water dispense if it has a bad door switch?
I'm not sure of what you mean by "water dispensing". Do you mean water leaking out or the washer actually filling with water? Thank you so much for commenting and watching. I appreciate it greatly. Subscribe, Click The Bell and stay tuned! All the best.👍😀
@richardlloydusa sorry I meant to say could the washer fill with water if it has a bad lid switch?
No wash. How do I solve this
Can u make a video how to test volts or continunys
Sir I have a Washing machine which brand is Sharp,, the problem is washing machine taking water and door also lock but the machine is not spinning. What is the problem?
I suggest checking the drive belt. It may have worn out or snapped. Thank you so much for commenting and watching. I appreciate it greatly. All the best.👍😀
Great, comprehensive video! My exact machine.
I can’t find the part number for the brushes?
Thomas Dzialo hello did you resolve the problem with your machine? I have the same problem. I thought it was the timer control but it is not.
I have the same problem now. Looks like a brushless motor. I've run the tests in the guide from inside the washer and found nothing wrong. I'm stumped.
Great detailed video!
My lock On the door is on top I don't see any screws it's a may tag Neptune front loader
Why did it have a marker in place of sn?
What s the problem when it stops washing and the door opens
More than likely you have a broken door stryker at Amazon: amzn.to/3vO0dMs or a broken door lock switch assembly: amzn.to/3dkcQbO
Make sure to look and see that the parts are compatible and that they look the same although if your stryker is broken it will be missing a piece.

Will this work on English washing machines
I can't see why not? I am sure English washing machines use the same operating principles. Thank you for watching and commenting. I appreciate it greatly. All the best.👍😀

hi can u please help me, I have a indisit washing machine and the drum doesn't turn at all but the belt and everything work on the rear. Just the drum doesn't move from the front. What do u think is wrong
Can you manually turn the drum? Does the motor run with the belt off? Thanks.
Check the filter in your drain hose that is attached to the water pump. It gets clogged. If water is not draining properly, it will not run.

Thank you.
