Only a few months before a study abroad trip to Rome, Charlie had begun hormone therapy and completed top surgery. He was nervous--about the language barrier and about passing as a male--when he walked into a small barbershop in Rome.

Emmett Warr I haven't had any of those experiences yet lol but I'm sure I will in the future. So far it's been at school and people just ask me different spellings like Emmit or Emett but I think my spelling just makes the most sense lol I don't know

Yes, he is extremely hot looking. I am a gay man and I never got the trans thing, but when I was growing up gay, nobody got me. I would just hope that one day somebody would get me for me and not what I looked like and I am kind of disappointed in myself because if he did not look so hot I probably would not have said anything but I can relate to every one of his fears and being discreet to protect himself and being scared and I have the highest respect for his bravery. It gives me strength.

My spouse of 20 years just came out as trans two years ago. Going through this process with him, I really appreciated your ability to convey a moment that is so significant to transmen but is often lost on wider society. Although important, there is so much more than just starting T or having surgery. There are multiple rights of passage during the transition process..... The first time using men's restroom/ change room, the first time being called "sir", the first time receiving mail addressed to "Mr. ...", the first time shaving, first time going to the beach/ swimming without a shirt, the first time a straight female or gay man flirts with you and yes, the First Time seeing a Real Barber! :)
I can't disagree with the others, you 'are' handsome, but more so than the external features, what you conveyed were the more important elements. You are intelligent and articulate and know that while important and meaningful, there are already thousands of videos addressing surgery and hormones. You spoke of an experience that was meaningful to YOU and that will be relatable to many others!

"How do you navigate the world past transitioning" is a really key question. I didn't start to deal with my own transphobia until I stopped seeing transgender men and women as simply trying (and sometimes failing) to have a specific set of surgeries that "fixed" them into a specific gender.

Wow. Just wow. Some people should be ashamed of themselves. Somebody asked, "How could she pass for a man?", I'd rather know how this kind of people can be considered human beings. We're not talking about a bad comment on a movie or a book, we're talking about hate directed to real people with a troubled path behind them. There is a massive difference. Now that you have spread your hate and scorn, how do you think your carelessness will affect people with similar stories? Are you proud of yourselves? You think everyone will just go through the comments and shrug? No fucking way. Truth is, words hurt. Your hate is hurting transgender people but even yourselves and people with a certain common sense. Denying what's true because of prejudices or because these situations are beyond your comprehension won't change reality. Whoever spreads hate towards REAL PEOPLE because of what they are should be sorry and ashamed. Get informed before you judge so harshly someone. We have already seen this spitefulness through history, from Jews to black people. How true is that people NEVER change. Telling you to have a shred of respect is useless, unfortunately, the best way to make your filthy mouth shut would be ignore you but God only knows how mad you have made me, and not only me.

I totally, totally get it. Like, when saw the title of the video, I already got it. I never got to go to a barbershop growing up cause well, I didn't grow up in the barbershop-going gender, and when I found mine I wasn't yet on hormones so I didn't pass, so they misgendered me at first, but then I corrected them both [maybe a couple of times], and that was that, I was granted my personal space there, I always tip ridiculously high, that place is like a men's sanctuary

I'm part of the younger generation (14) of the lgbtq+ community. I'm a girl (I may be turning genderfluid or a male, I'm still figuring my life out) who is homoflexible with an amazing girlfriend. I started watching these videos (when I was 12) trying to figure out who I was, trying to figure out the person I'll become, the people I'll love and it inspired me so much. I didn't look at the comments back then, but now I look at the comments for people's stories, they inspire me. So, thank you. Anyway, I see all this hate, calling this handsome man she, calling him a lesbian. And it breaks my heart but we have to live through it, we have to be stronger and ignore all the pricks who believe that they can tell us what to do. "You'll go to hell" "God made Adam and Eve, not Adam and Steve" using religion to hide the fact you're a prick doesn't hide the fact you're self-intitled and idiotic. The old testament said "If a man lies with a male as he lies with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination. They shall surely be put to death. Their blood shall be upon them." the old testament also said women on their periods were demons. Seriously? Anyway. Just please, you do you, spread the love, make sure you can take your experiences and help others. Try to make the world a better place

I think one thing that I want to know about is finding love while being transgender. I mean, I get it that being trans has nothing to do with sexuality and is more based on identification, but very rarely do I see videos where people talk about their love life. I'd like to hear about it more from trans people.
People , really please find yourselves and composures. There is no need to be disrespectful or angry. Even logic sometimes is to much for close mindedness. We were not born with haircuts, tattoos, piercings, circumcisions, make up, weave, nail polish. These are all decisions that we make based on our personality and how we feel inside. We dye our hair we have different styles. No one is completely happy with how we look and are from birth to adult hood. some feel like they are not tall enough, too tall, too skinny, big noses, whatever the reason might be. so we do things to make ourselves look and feel better. Sometimes we do it for other peoples, the measures we take to feel ok with ourselves and within society varies from person to person. Truth is we need each other or life would not exist. Now someone who feels the need to transition this is not a split decision, this is something they ponder on for years at a time, because who really wants to go through the pain of being disowned, or hated, murdered. Saving thousands of money for surguries just to do it. But instead of people trying to understand, they hate. Call it disgusting, and sick, tell me the cure, they should find help lead the way. I have watched videos of men and woman desperately trying to escape from being gay and lesbian because of the hate and threats they recieve. They sign up to be exorcised, baptised, saved, having the gay beatin out of them. Has it worked? No every single one was either still the same or so afraid that they went into denile and lived unhappily, for people like the commentors below this video. You dont know how it feels to be anyone else but you, you could try to relate and understand but you dont know how they think, what effects them and so on. We support every other change we want to perform on our bodies but when it comes to sex its to much, its too far out there, its disgusting, its not normal. Because of the level its on. Trying to confine someone to what you believe. We all came out of a different womb, we all have our own brains for a reason . almost everything that exists now didnt exist 50 years ago, everyday we move further from normal, if normal is even a real conception.. Put us in a society where we all have to live based on one persons, imagination. Where one color exists, drive one car, live in one house, have one job, one dream, and anyone who thinks to say anything other wise will be murdered on the spot tortured to the last breath. Would you survive could you live based on how I want you to live? Being unhappy having t i push all your aspirations and desires to the side. Why would anyone have to come out as trans? That's just stupid. I've had top surgery, so to speak, but, I don't walk up to anyone and say, Hi, I'm Buzz, I had a double mastectomy. It's a surgery you go through, not something you need to announce to everyone.
