That's not upscaling artifacting, that's just another cheaper method of doing transparent materials in Unreal Engine. Fellow theatre loser here: I initially thought you were talking about Endgame by Samuel Beckett. Then you described something more absurd than the master of Absurdism.
Regarding your story about that horrible play, I've notice a lot of artist believe they have more to say than they do. People will unironically talk and essentially say "I have a brand new story to tell, you've never heard of it before: global warming is bad!" I don't mean to belittle artists; I consider myself one with 3D, but I've only noticed that kind of thing with artists.
The checkerboard on that energy is probably (if unreal engine) a masked material with like opacity between 0 and 1 into a DitherTemporalAA to make it look see through. Masked material is cheaper than translucent but using it like that is bad. Masked is usually 0 or 1 so visible or masked out and completely invisible and using that Dither Temp AA can allow you to make softer edges/transitions but it seems they used it just over the while character like that.
I stand by this, the companies mentioned in this video can't ruin a good game; but they can exacerbate a bad game. this is because creatives need to know what they are doing before they can take such advice.
3:13 No, that just looks like a dithering effect, usually used as an alternative for transparency effects, to get around transparency depth sorting issues.

Let’s put it like this today is October 30. The game came out on October 18 and I literally just saw a trailer for it on RUclips 10 minutes ago. I had no clue this thing existed was coming out. And now I’m here finding out about it more information about it
Got it with my CPU purchase. So far it’s fine like a fine AA with some interesting elements. The other game was Space Marine 2 so My bar was pretty high
Game actually has some fun ideas, it´s built around the idea that you as a player is fairly incapable of fighting, so instead you have to use mindcontrol and evniromental hazards to get rid of the enemies. You can cause infighting and such. Not sure how well executed it is, but there´s some stuff that has potential. But as I understand it´s also very much a game that could have been released on ps3. But then again, no one had a problem with A Plague Tale, which is just as limited but also very well recieved.
On a completely different note. The concept of the game reminded me of another game I played on ps2 I think. But it was a cop in car that could switch with other drivers on the road. I can’t remember the name at all.
Remember that Bandai Namco said a Xenosaga remaster would not be profitable and therefore would not do it. And then they they decided to make this game.
I mean it worked for Star Wars to skip to IV - but I mean at least Lucas was gaining a name for himself. Love for the other two trilogies makes me scratch my head though, especially those in the "the prequels are better now because the sequels suck" crowd.
@@utopua4all Plus, Episode IV was pretty stand alone. It had hooks for prequels or sequels, and more background to be filled in, but it was pretty self-contained.
4:34 Video games are art, yes, but this is a game from Bandai Namco, literally one of the biggest publishers in the world, who (except for From Software games), care very little for art, especially with the money troubles they’re in at the moment
I'm definitely picking this up because I adore a good stealth game, especially in a detailed world. I just can't justify the expense right now. There's too much out, and too much coming out. I hope the studio is alright if it flops. It looks rad.
I saw a little band called Nirvana at a local grange hall called Community World. I saw them again in a student center cafeteria with about 60 fans. I'm inclined to think that artists should do their art wherever they can, at the level they have access to. There's nothing wrong with building a cult following as a launch point. The art still has to be good, but not everyone can just move to LA or NY and get an audience. Those places are HEAVILY gatekept.

Some characters are in those shows to push left wing talking points like Tommy's sister and the 🌈 kid in ST. yet both shows are brilliant
not going well, is a very kind statement for a 5/10 by IGN game
What are you talking about? The whole modern audience showed up for it! It's a resounding success!
Here is the thing about these games and also the plays you describe: Even if you have a message that is, in principle, good and valuable, if you lack the skill to pull it off you end up doing more damage to your cause than you are helping. Case in point: Just stop oil.
just stop oil is also funded by people who are more interested in causing political scenes than real messaging or political pragmatic changes
or the play Luke mentioned
Wellp... Luke puts a lot of effort to not to point fingers in this video, another pretty sanitized analysis... Even telling irrelevant personal experiences just to try to create a forced analogy just to not say "pushing political agenda"
how to point at "something" without pointing at "it". Word salad can be just said in a sentence instead of just prolonging it for the video's sake...
I noticed that too
They must have paid quite a bit on ads for this because for the last 24-48 hours - no exaggeration - I’ve seen at the minimum 10 ads for it.. I thought it was Forespoken 2 or something every time I skipped it
I’ve never heard of it
got it free with my GPU. Will probably play for 15 minutes, fall asleep, try it a second time and uninstall it. Did the same with Starfield.
Starfield is miles better than whatever this is, lets get real.
I got Starfield Free with my CPU. It was worth every penny.
@@Bignuke87It isnt, which is the sad thing
@@AttaMan lmao aint no way, starfield is bad, but this unknown 9 is on whole another realm of bad lmao
Perhaps they were trying to become the Plan 9 From Outer Space of gaming.
@@07m07 I saw Plan 9 in a theater, probably a midnight showing. The three guys a row on front of us were like MST3K in person. We had a blast. Don’t see anyone enjoying this
4:20 Unknown 9 is an "Important Game" in the sense that it's going to serve as another example of what NOT to do with a game.
The love child of sw outlaws and forspoken😂
I'm glad you addressed the elephant in the room , even when your opinion might not align with the most extreme and negative ones (including mine sometimes) . Honestly whatever streamers and reviewers opinions are on those matter , that's all you can ask , that they don't pretend the issue does not exist , does not matter , and is only in the mind of dumb "phobes".
Seems many players on steam got the game free with an AMD purchase. Like some say they got it free and still want their money back.
Alongside Space Marine 2... They had no chance
"Important" stories fell into the same trap that Christian media did.
When adherence to the message is your only goal, everything else falls by the wayside.
That's such a perfect way of looking at it, these games be it this or dustborn or saints row or any number of others are essentially leftist veggie tales
“It doesn’t seem like anyone stopped to ask if who would want to play this?” Good observation Luke. Turns out they didn’t.
Imagine thinking you could create an entire franchice based on this game.
I'm praying we get an unknown 8 which takes place before the cool powers and all it is, is an interactive video novel 😂
Forspoken 9: Unknown Outlaw Awakening
Fellow theatre loser here: I initially thought you were talking about Endgame by Samuel Beckett. Then you described something more absurd than the master of Absurdism.
Unknown 9, a game that is literally unknown except for the 9 person who actually bought the game.
The ads give a very strong Forspoken vibe. Wasn't sure if it was a sequel or at least something that takes place in the same universe.
Keep forgetting how ridiculously nice your camera is. It has such good picture damn
I didn't even know this was released
It's called unknown for a reason
Regarding your story about that horrible play, I've notice a lot of artist believe they have more to say than they do. People will unironically talk and essentially say "I have a brand new story to tell, you've never heard of it before: global warming is bad!" I don't mean to belittle artists; I consider myself one with 3D, but I've only noticed that kind of thing with artists.
“There’s not a lot to talk about this game, so I’m going to talk about something completely different.”
Best review ever.
Her: It was Vincent!.
Also Her, 5 seconds later: Who's Vincent?
That writing skills tho!
This looks like a low sodium assassins creed.
I see the actress from the witcher and my brain immediately turned off.
I originally saw their beautiful CGI trailer and kept an eye on it over the years. I saw the gameplay videos on RUclips and took it off my wishlist.
I hope the devs learn the "importance" of losing millions, layoffs and studio closures.
Unknown 9. 9 being the player count.
Really cool to hear your a Coloradan! I did musical theater in and went to college in Greeley, had no idea, pretty cool!
An unknown game for a non-existent audience.
Unknown 9 so Unknown we get storytime with Luke instead
Was anyone surprised by this? I’m sure even the devs knew this was DOA, just not for the reasons they think.
Same Yennefer actress only they couldn't get her face to look right with all of the available technology.
Maybe I'm stupid, but I have not heard ANY news of this game dropping.
IGN gave it a very favorable review, 8/10, so my expectation is that once people hear about it, the game's sales will soar like an Eagle. Cream rises to the top, as they say
'remember those blue dancing dudes in that club in starfield ? - it was that bad!' :D brilliant
Thanks for the gameplay, keep up the good work!
Feels like I'm watching Star Wars Outlaws 2.
Generally company wants to make money, but then there is the odd cases that some companies are alergic to money for some reason during some periods of times... It may seems like an outlier, but I they seems to be poping up more often than before.
The Free Market will correct all.
there won't be a free market when private equity eats it
I place more stock in Steam reviews than I do the corporate access media. While the Steam reviews may "review bomb" titles whose sole purpose is to "force behaviour" with their political checkbox messaging, the access media does opposite positive review bombing games which align with their ideology, propping them up.
Hey man, have you seen what VRising developer just did? They expanded with new items Castlevania Legacy pack which many people got a year ago to support the Developer on 1.0 release. Now instead of milking it in new DLC for celebrating Steam Castlevania days, they just added new stuff to the old DLC, practically upgrading many people for free... Take that Ubisoft ;) That's how you make people return to the game (great btw). Cheers!
Not going well? Sorta like the Star Wars Outlaws?
More like Concord.
I like to think that I'm fairly tuned into gaming news and releases. I've heard of this game maybe once or twice before now, and I'm not sure, I might be confusing it with that "Clair Obscur: Expedition 33" game.
I’ve been hit with this advert non stop for the past week on RUclips, a few times it was back to back ads of this.
Let’s put it like this today is October 30. The game came out on October 18 and I literally just saw a trailer for it on RUclips 10 minutes ago. I had no clue this thing existed was coming out. And now I’m here finding out about it more information about it
Steam reviews are the only reviews to trust...there is literally a 'Time Played' right in the review ignore any that haven't played the game.
I had this on my wishlist ‘cuz I was curious and even I had no idea it was already out.
You making this video is literally the first time I’m hearing about this game and I feel like I’m pretty connected
Got it with my CPU purchase. So far it’s fine like a fine AA with some interesting elements. The other game was Space Marine 2 so
My bar was pretty high
That’s probably one of the lowest bars ever lol
Son that bar is on the ground
I've heard of it. But I didn't care to try it. And from what I seen of the game, I made the right choice.
From how it looks, it's one of those games where the NPC is bent down with a puckered hole asking to be taken down "stealthily".
@@aarsi8339 driver San Francisco. Ps3 game from Ubisoft
@@VladBagrus YES! Thank you 🙏🏽. I have been trying to remember the name for a while now.
Remember that Bandai Namco said a Xenosaga remaster would not be profitable and therefore would not do it. And then they they decided to make this game.
This was by Bandai? Damn
Where's the modern audiences at
I got a key for this game with an AMD Radeon GPU Promotion that also got me Warhammer 40k Space Marine II so I forgot all about Unknown. Until now.
Looks like a very boring game.
I didn’t even know it existed until a few days ago.
It's a bold strategy to start your new game franchise on the 9th one while skipping 1 - 8. Doesn't seem to be working out for them tho.
I mean it worked for Star Wars to skip to IV - but I mean at least Lucas was gaining a name for himself. I'm not even a big fan/sci-fi guy but I can understand the why people like the original trilogy.
Maybe unknown 1-8 are better?
When she stealth walks... 😅 she looks like Vess from SW: Outlaws.
I typically find steam reviews to be the most honest and telling about a game. If people don’t like it they are gonna tell you
4:34 Video games are art, yes, but this is a game from Bandai Namco, literally one of the biggest publishers in the world, who (except for From Software games), care very little for art, especially with the money troubles they’re in at the moment
HE TOOK MY THING!!!! ❤
I'm definitely picking this up because I adore a good stealth game, especially in a detailed world. I just can't justify the expense right now. There's too much out, and too much coming out. I hope the studio is alright if it flops. It looks rad.
I'm sure it will be on gamepass at some point but not sure how much they will give the developer considering sales being so low.
Pretty sure Bandai Namco just signed on to publish the game from Rebel Wolves (a studio started by the director of Witcher 3)
