For human medications, being "past expiration" just means they don't guarantee full potency. It's not like it rots and will hurt you, or that it won't work anymore. I assume fish medicines are similar?
Hi Michael. Here in August 2022. Great video and it was very helpful! I love my fish and lost two of my favorites due to not quarantining two new fishy friends, which I also lost. I have a hospital/quarantine tank set up in my kitchen, for a lack of a better place at the moment. Thanks for going over the medications. Prices have definitely gone up since you made this video😳😂 Anyway, thanks for the advice!

Thanks Michael for info. I was wondering if you added all the meds at the same time and your video shows that you do. That is such a big help. Your videos rock brother. Keep them coming.
hi Michael, your videos really help. i have a 12 gallon aquarium just for quarantine and after quarantine i move them to the main aquarium. my question is: before i bring new fish to quarantine aquarium, should i do a major water change (70% -100%)to take out the remains of the medications or is it ok to do just a regular 20%-30% water change?
It means the efficacy level could go down or loss it efficacy , usually what we do to medicines close to expiry dates we return it to the suppliers and then they will send it back to the labs. and check for the efficacy level then they will put new expiry dates on it if it’s still ok and then back to the market.
Hey Michael, thanks for uploading this video! I agree, QTing your fish is very important... I believe the reason I lost a few angels the past few months was because I never quarantined... This video will def help new fish keepers and even intermediate fish keepers like me! Thanks again! Keep up the uploads!
Definitely quarantine. I went to Petco to buy 2 more fancy goldfish. I only wanted the one as one seemed not as energetic. The worker told me they are all treated before sale. However, mine needed FURAN 2 as the one ended up having hemorrhagic septicemia and spread it to my other 5 year old fish. Went back to the store to buy a UV filter and ended up talking to the fish expert who told mom about the disease. "Those fish were sick.. I can't believe they sold you one." So here I am on a Saturday.... trying to save my goldfish.. watching them and trying to get them to eat some sulfplex mixed with focus, garlic and rapashy mush. All I have to say is quarantine is a must. Always. Never skip it. My question: I am treating with Furan 3 and E.M. Erythromycin. I am also trying to feed them Sulfaplex as mentioned above. They have red stripes in their tails and are not eating. In your experience, what is the prognosis. Anything else I could do to help them heal?
I just subscribed to your channel I thank you very much for showing all of us showing is believeing that you can put both medicines and the ick X all in one thank you for the video
I think it might be slightly less effective, but I certainly wouldn't through out an entire half container of an expensive med! lol. If you use it for the prescribed disease and it doesn't work (after the expiration date) then maybe toss it but I'm cheap, I'd probably keep using it. OR, what you could do is take a few scoops in an easy dose size for people with 20 gallon tanks for example, put the amount you'd need in a plastic baggie and label it, put enough to dose it twice or whatever the recommended amount is, and you could either gift it to your local fish keeping friends or sell/trade so it doesn't go to waste before it expires. just my two cents
Yeah, cause I think with the cost of the big bottle, you could still sell/trade at a cheaper price then your friends could buy it in the premade packages...and you'd still get enough back in cash or trade to make it worth your while.
Michael, im considering getting Erythomycin to use as an all around antibiotic to use in my guppy fishroom. I have preached Oxytetracycilne food and kanamycin sulfate antibiotic (pure not kanaplex bs) And it has worked well for me in the past. But I do like API products, Maracyn 2 worked well in the past for me for columnaris, saved alot of guppies. As you may or may not know, there are two types of bacteria, Gram + and Gram - I have also preached to people that the majority of fish bacteria are gram negative, however i have recently found out that that is not as true as websites and intermediate hobbyist claim. The guppy Great Jim Alderson once told me, "the majority of infections on guppies are gram positive, i have done hundreds of gram stain tests to prove this" The IFGA promotes the use of Tri-sulfa, and im considering this antibiotic to use as well. I think that the point im making is, Ken from kensfish.com suggested to me a long time ago that Erythomycin was a hot seller antibiotic that "alot of those guppy people buy" And this makes sense. Its method of action is very broad spectrum and i think its a good antibiotic that you can use in hard or soft water, and allievate alot of the guess work with other antibiotics that i mentioned earlier, which may work better at first, but are narrower in spectrum and bacteria can build resistance (which may be happaning to me) So thats my take on that.
Michael's Fish Room I end up decided to get Sulfa. It’s what the IFGA suggests. I couldn’t decide between erythromycin or Minocycline so I think I’ll switch to a totally different mechanism of action. Bacteria build resistance to tetracycline antibiotics over time whereas sulfa never fails.
Michael's Fish Room I got it from Thomas labs and it’s a capsule or tablet that works well in any water hard or soft. It only costs 40 bucks for 100 count. I can’t speak on behalf of it because I haven’t ever used it before but since kanamycin is narrow spectrum and tetracycline can become resistant, sulfa should work where others start to fail. It’s supposed to be easy on the fish and bio filter as well.
Have you seen red & or white lesions after using general cure? I used GC in my quarantine tank on new fish after seeing white poop, the next day two had white lesions than then became more like an open white /pink fleshy sore (if that makes sense) I treated another group, I had them a week looked healthy other than white poop. three of them ended up with the same white lesions, but with those the lessons stayed white and ended in becoming very fuzzy. These lesions start at the dorsal fin, the side just below the dorsal, or even just in front of the tail. PLEASE HELP 🙏 💜

Are you sure they are missing, or is it supposed to be like that? If they were there and now they are not, clean water and a good diet is the best thing.
Michael's Fish Room yes the whole tail was there , he's a handsome little guy and would love to see that tail heal! What's a good food in your opinion? Frozen brine shrimp?
Michael's Fish Room it's those red velvet swords. Luckily they were already in QT. They are almost clear of it though. The directions say how much to use but it doesn't say how long to treat it for.
Hi Michael thanks for sharing this info. I have a question, so what temperature should the tank be when doing this. also since API is out of stock of EM Erythromycin what else can use to replace.
Hey Michael! Great video!! I was wondering if you would use these medications to quarantine a new betta fish that I will be importing? Thanks so much!!! :)
Hi great videos keep up the good work, I always look forward to your videos. Is it ok to mix meds? I always thought you should mix them. It's seems to work for you!
Each box of medicine says to treat three to four times one says every 24 hours and the others every 48 hours how long do you medicate your fish before you do a water change or do I follow the instructions on each box
Medicating already medicated fish is just going to lead to becoming more tolerant or immune. Still quarantine but just watch and make sure nothing changes in a month. If u start to see something start treatment and start month quarantine time over. This is the reason I 👎 the video. Sorry. May be personal preference but biology is all the same and will eventually happen over time. People. Dont waste your money medicating fish you know been medicated.

If I do not see any issues 7-10 days. IF I know of or see issues, as long as it takes to heal + one month observation.
What do i do woth fish after wiarantinr? I mean if they are still too small for the main tank?
I’m trying to dose these in nano tanks. Has anyone figured out a measurement per gallon for these powders? I guess I’m going to have to dump the powder packets out and divide into ten piles with a razor blade...😂
👌
I bet if you call API they can help!
Do you corintine new fish in their own tank and just leave it?
Goes away?
I do QT every new fish in my fish room. Check out my video: ruclips.net/user/edit?o=U&video_id=gbByGSwdfbQ
I love this Trio! I use it as well when I quarantine ! Question I have a male Guppy that I put in my quarantine/Hospital tank because his tail is missing some pieces, no sign of fungus or bulling in my tank so I'm not sure what to do for him, what would you recommend?
Are you sure they are missing, or is it supposed to be like that? If they were there and now they are not, clean water and a good diet is the best thing.
Michael's Fish Room yes the whole tail was there , he's a handsome little guy and would love to see that tail heal! What's a good food in your opinion? Frozen brine shrimp?
Frozen Brine or Blood worms is great. As is high quality flake food from Ocean Nutrition.
Michael's Fish Room awesome thank you so much!
Michael, how many days should you use Ich X? Battling my first case. Do you repeat daily until all ich signs are gone?
+Ryan McCullough I follow the package directions for ich. What's in the tank?
Michael's Fish Room it's those red velvet swords. Luckily they were already in QT. They are almost clear of it though. The directions say how much to use but it doesn't say how long to treat it for.
I would treat until I don't see anymore, than 3 more days.
Michael's Fish Room thank you, that's what I'll do!
Good Luck Ryan and let me know how it goes!
Hi Michael thanks for sharing this info. I have a question, so what temperature should the tank be when doing this. also since API is out of stock of EM Erythromycin what else can use to replace.
Furan-2 is my go to now. I don't change the temp.
New sub! 😉🤗👍
Thanks and welcome!
How do you keep your QT cycled with all the meds or when there aren’t fish who need to be QTed?
I keep extra sponge filters in tanks with healthy fish, so when I need to set up a QT tank.....BOOM! Instant cycle!
Will general cure harm your beneficial bacteria?
It has never hurt mine.
lol, still loving your bloopers btw :)
At about the 12:00 minute mark I was wondering what the Angelfish in the tank off to the side was doing?
Do you mean the silver on the left? He is not doing so well, no eating so he may be on his way out. :(
Michael's Fish Room Aww :( Sorry to hear that.
Which light u use for plants
Just cheap LED lights. Search my channel for "Cheap LED lights" I have a few videos.
Hey Michael! Great video!! I was wondering if you would use these medications to quarantine a new betta fish that I will be importing? Thanks so much!!! :)
Yup! No problem!
hey fishy mike. I have Api eutythromyson or how ever you spell it in stock!
and general cure and ich x
+Fish Freaks Plus me too!
+Michael's Fish Room bahahahaha
Hi great videos keep up the good work, I always look forward to your videos. Is it ok to mix meds? I always thought you should mix them. It's seems to work for you!
I do with those three without issue, but I am not sure about other meds. Glad you liked it!
I’m new to the fish hobbie and I’m wondering what quarantine means can you please give me some background knowledge
Google "Quarantine" then email me if you have any questions.
Corey ships fish?
He used too!
Each box of medicine says to treat three to four times one says every 24 hours and the others every 48 hours how long do you medicate your fish before you do a water change or do I follow the instructions on each box
No, I add one dose and watch the fish for one week, then start water changes.
Thanks👌
Hi Michael, great name!
I just put 2 small black Cichlids into my mbuna 55 gallon tank today & wasn't sure what type these 2 were.
Here's a like to the photos I taken of the pair:
www.icloud.com/sharedalbum/#B0z5nhQSTGxpzZz
If you could name the type & what size they get as adults & would they be ok keeping them in this tank?
Thanks
Michael
LOL, yes it is! Sorry, but I do not know Africans very well! Maybe @Aquarium Co Op can help?
