      Old people can be very stubborn and not all of them are poor either just miserly !! Although I can understand caurion for them with the increasing number of shifty unscrupulous tradesman. My uncle helped an old neighbour in a similar situation with hedges and a conifer overhanging the pavement. The man had family that didn't bother with him anymore family rifts, and despite being a landlord with many properties, the money piled in the bank rather than be spent on home improvements. Good wishes.

      I doubt the council even looked to see who lived there. I temped at a council office years ago and all the fines and correspondence are printed and sent out automatically via machines even then. It’s probably even more hands off now. As with most large organisations, we’re not individuals but a number in a very long list of numbers.

      @@claire6795sry but who hurt you? Not every elderly person is as you say “miserly or stubborn” but even if they all were, it’s the Government/council job to take care of the properties not expecting seniors to do that.
      Be careful how you treat the elderly and don’t worry abt what they may or may not have, our duties as humans are to care and love our neighbors as we love ourselves. Meaning, helping them out where humanly possible.

      Julieallen4486: the government/council don’t care abt their seniors once they’re not able to work anymore. It’s so sad bcuz it’s not only in England but throughout the world. They seem to just discard them which makes me sad.

    If she's on benefits, it might have been more humane if the council had helped her out instead of threatening her. It seems that more and more councils see their citizens as the enemy rather than the people they are elected to serve.

      She’s almost a hundred and is vulnerable surprised the neighbors didn’t bother go inside and check around with so much vegetation you can get rodents foxes pests even the car was found there for goodness how long !!!!
      Shiela must have at least a friend with here or a grandkid to look after her maintain that huge yard and keep her company

During the winter I’d go out and shovel snow. Once a complete stranger was driving by. He stopped his truck and finished my shoveling in about five minutes. Definitely SHAME on This Council! And such Blessing to You and your Dad for helping Sheila! ( she is same age as my Nan when she died.) Reaching 96 is awesome!
    Like my Nan Sheila has probably survived two WW wars! …And deserves all the respect and kindness we can give. So glad her neighbours gave you guys plenty of cuppa’s, while working so hard. We need more guys & gals like you.
    My Husband is 72 and disabled and had a heart valve transplant. During a council property up grade, they opened our drive gates, to put a skip in for the rubbish.
    And WE got served like this by Wakefield Council! The notice said if we didn’t stop using / opening our drive gates and not use the drive because the road kirb was built up. They would put bollards outside our home and or charge us £2000+ for flattening the kirb down. If we did use them they would take us to court & fined.
    The biggest joke is !
    It was a flat kirb to start with! .Some years ago Highway maintenance were removing paving flags, as too many people were tripping up and getting broken limbs and suing the Council. So they replaced them with concrete paths.
    While we were out, the small terrace where we live involving 4-5 houses who all had drives, the Council workers built up all the existing flat kirb paths. Other neighbours, had to pay to build theirs up again, we couldn’t afford to.
    Local Councils are the biggest offenders against the aged & disabled in the community.
    Who have worked hard all there lives. They’ve also refused to cut down huge trees in our garden, so overgrown it’s dark in our kitchen, have to have lights on, same at front too. I struggled to cut down some smaller private hedges my self, we had to pay to have council fence next to a public park totally replaced, because they refused to do any repairs with us in our home, unless we move out first. I’ve been here since 1992 I too have minor heart issues, & back issues.
    But the difference to our well being & mental health getting more light into the property is amazing. No thanks to Wakefield Council.
    (I too work for free in the community I always have given of time to help others & charities !) Helping others in your Local Community is one of the most Rewarding and Greatest Gifts you Can Give.
    And a big Thank You to all those who do … like you Guys too!
    We need more folks like you Guys! Many Blessings to You both! You guys Rock!

    WONDERFUL FOR MS. SHIELA!! Isn't she an absolute DOLL! I am THRILLED to stumble upon her front roadside bushes tamed in order to keep her in compliance with the city gov't. She was so sweet and thankful, and I can't wait to come along for the ride. After seeing Norman's fab journey, I was searching amongst your episodes and found this little gem. I have a huge old gushy mushy heart for the elderly---you are an earth angel! You and your Dad are indeed the Dynamic Duo! I love seeing you two tease and laugh throughout. • @nigelanscombe8658
      @nigelanscombe8658 8 месяцев назад

      I doubt the council has the skills these days they’d simply call in a contractor to do the jobs they need doing.
      Alas, those jobs don’t include the upkeep of private property. The nearest they might get is to get someone in to do the job and pass on the bill to the householder since it wouldn’t be a proper use of tax payers money.

    • @mydogeatspuke
      @mydogeatspuke 8 месяцев назад

      Why was it obvious that she needed help? Because she was old? Because it was overgrown? Leave anything without proper maintenance and it will end up like that. It has nothing to do with the property owner, plants just grow. I don't see how cutting it back so it can grow again is helping if she genuinely couldn't afford to hire a gardener to keep on top of it, as she would just end up in the same situation at the end of the next season. Also being old doesn't make someone incapable of hiring a professional. Obviously she wouldn't do it herself, but lots of people don't tend their own gardens. It's wild how everyone just assumes being old makes someone an invalid.
