I gave up on SEO over 10 years ago. Best decision I ever made. I went full on into paid marketing, mastered it by focusing on my email list and my business is more secure than ever. I still use my blog as a branding tool. I put all my content there, drive my subscribers to it providing value and it always drives sales. Google, RUclips, Facebook, and pretty much every major site wants you to pay for exposure. I just decided to play their game and its worked well for me. SEO is a constant cat and mouse game in my opinion. Great video Miles as always.

This video couldn't have come at a better time. I'm at a point in my life where I no longer enjoy working as a content writer since most of the topics I'm tasked to write are covered by dozens of other websites or blogs. There's literally zero value in the content we're publishing and I don't feel motivated to do this anymore. With that said, I'm glad I've had the opportunity to work as a content creator because it has taught me how to enjoy writing.

The silver lining of all this loss is that it will no longer be as common to pump out this crappy content because there’s not enough money in it anymore. My hope is that this, together with the A.I.-driven pivot from production to curation, will return us to the creation of valuable, original content!

@@Sobujmahamud731 I did Miles' 90-day challenge twice by doing 3/week blog posts, now I only do 1/week. I then pin at least 2 pins for each blog post and post to FB. I also do 2 newsletters/week to my subscribers. Last year I also started doing YT slideshow videos for each blog post. I offer a free PDF for subscribing to my newsletter and promote that in every blog post and every page of my website. It just takes time to build.

Thanks for this Miles, it's the down to earth message I very much need right now. In the midst of several updates where outdated content, never updated in 6 years, is now deemed more helpful than recent and factual correct information. In the past 11 years of experience with SEO I have ridden a lot of updates, with ups and downs. But since the November core algorithm update it's deeper and deeper (which I prefer as a Madonna song instead of my traffic and income) being beaten by a niche site that never got updated and has a lot of incorrect information on it.

Hi Miles, thanks for sharing your perspectives. Definitely a lot of valid points in this video! I'm a bit surprised my own sites didn't get hit much over the last years. My content isn't the best either, and I don't even update some of my sites anymore. I wonder what the sites that didn't crash in the SERPs have in common? Can we draw conclusions from that? Some would say it's about "good unique content", but many sites with high quality content also got hit hard. I didn't do link building or focus a lot on E-E-A-T either. Oh well, maybe my sites will be hit in a future update. Who knows?

Miles- This video is heart felt... I processed it for a bit. I feel for anyone getting hit hard from the (recent) update. These situations are very emotional.
What is important (that you hit on consistently), is caring for your audience and to figure out the next move, during big upsets. The game is not easy, but the commitment to show up and to build trust (no matter what platform), will continue- and your audience will support you.
The work you do is priceless. I know how effective your teachings, your thoughts and your over-the-top focus on helping others to succeed keeps many of your audience returning... Thank you Miles!

This video was helpful Miles shedding some hope. The old saying don't put all your eggs in basket is still true to this day. The airport (internet) will still be there even though airlines come and go at the gates (what we can't control) but you can still get to your destination just flying on a different airline regardless what the largest carrier changes. I've summed it up in two words....."improvised marketing". Rather than focusing on what I can't control I will focus on what I can control (the solution) to help solved that problem just as I would with a customer.

Mr. Miles, I'm trucking along through the Academy. I had something I wrote down in my notes I wanted to share with you: "To Miles: @ 10:47 of Intro @ MB Academy is when I truly strarted trusting you. That was after approximately 40 podcasts, 20+YT videos, starting my website (through your affiliate link), and getting frustrated enough with my progress to start the academy." I just thought you should know what my journey looked like.
If I've earned your attention enough to ask a question, I'd like to do that here. I've had a blog since 2012 and never made a dime, and I realized it was because of inconsistency on my part, and lack of understanding for how things function in the backend. The question: Should I go back through my old posts, update them, SEO them, and edit them? Or leave them as historical reminders of the progress I've made?

How can I deliver better service? Etc. And the question, "is this what you're on this planet for?" is perfect. Through service we're creating our own algorithm. Long story short, one of my resets was when I lost everything and ended up on a park bench in London. I wouldn't say my site is perfect, but I've seen several incredibly high-quality sites in my niche (travel) with not just original photos, but gorgeous ones, in addition to professional layout and design and well-written content tanked by these updates. That's what really makes me lose faith in all of this. There are 10 bad sites for every one good one, so just by those stats alone most of the websites penalized by these algorithmic updates will look justified, but if the high-quality sites are also getting killed, what are we working towards?

All the SEO people being mad in the comments 😂 It's your own fault and you should've diversified earlier. Facebook was booming 5 years ago and no one bat an eye, also paid media/content arbitrage was skyrocketing (100%+ ROI all day). Now you would be happy to have 10-20% margins. SEO people have finally seen the Light of diversification, but 5 years too late
