    I am making this for the second time right now. It is the best recipe I have found by far! The first time I used brown sugar (all I had on hand) and salted butter and it tasted like a pecan sticky bun baklava. It was amazing!!! This time I’ll follow the exact instructions

    My mother is a native Greek and she told me that if the baklava is hot then the syrup should be cool, or if your syrup is hot then the baklava should be cool, to avoid the phyllo from getting too soggy. Never both the same temperature. She also added some lemon juice and a little lemon peel, the zest part. But this recipe looked very good to me. Thank you, love watching your channel. Reminds of visiting my YiaYia and Papou in Athens.

    Ken, this video is great! I had a step-father from Greece, so I was brought up in the Greek culture. I even went to Greek school in Cambridge Massachusetts back in 1976. I typically make stuffed grape leaves, but never have I ever attempted Baklava! As I write this, the Baklava I just learned how to make from your tutorial video, is now in the oven. Efharisto!

      @@KensGreekTable Good day Ken! The Baklava came out awesome! I put it in the fridge to cool, and this morning we put the honey/syrup mixture in it....perfect! I took a picture of it, and will email it to you today. Oh, as a short continuation of my story, my step-dad's mother (yia yia) used to live in the basement apartment of our home in Watertown MA in the 70s. She would cook all day. When she had food ready, she'd bang on the pipes to let us know there was something ready. Me, my brother and sister would run downstairs with smiles on our faces because we knew we'd be getting some grape leaves, or pastry. What an awesome time it was. Your videos are great Ken, my girlfriend and I were drawn to them, and couldn't stop watching...well done with your presentations!

    I have been making this for about 50 years and we definitely make it differently. All 40 layers should be buttered. But one shortcut I use is to put your melted butter in a clean spray bottle. It makes short work of putting it together. Also pour your syrup on as soon as you take it out of the oven.

    Made this a couple weeks ago, but the only nuts I had were pecans, which still worked. And I used a combination of a bit of Cinnamon and a lot of Cardamom for the spices, mostly because I have a great love of cardamom. It was delicious and my friends were asking me where I got the recipe. They ate the whole pan and scraped up the crumbs

I've always been on the side of honey as that's how my family made it growing up. This incorporates honey but also is made from scratch syrup. Love this and will have to try!

    The word Baklava is of Turkish origin. [1] In Old Turkish, broad bean is called broad bean. Another proof that the word baklava is in Turkish is the rolling pin used to roll the dough, the arrowhead in the old language, the arrowhead, the arrowhead, the arrowhead [2], and its origin can be documented due to its use in written works before 1500. Buell (1999) stated that the name "baklava" may have been derived by adding the Turkish verb suffix -v over the word baγla-, meaning 'to tie, wrap' in Mongolian, but the verb baγla- in Mongolian is also an excerpt from Old Turkish. [3] The word has nothing to do with the Arabic word broad bean.

I found lots of other cool Greek stuff along the way, (do you know how many famous Greeks there are who have the name "Panagiottis"? A LOT!) but I almost gave up on finding this guy again, lol... Για σου Κεν, ευχαριστώ... (I should've remembered the first name first; "Ken" is not a typical Greek name, at least not that I've heard of. There is no "Saint Ken", is there?)... Baklavas was eaten in byzantium. Turks who say that is yours, you weren't even here when people eating this. You were in the steps of mongolia!
    Perhaps it's Arabic or byzantine but not Turkish for sure!

      Ken, tried and it came out real good. You are the best!
      I used half quantity pecan and half pistachios. Only problem i have is, only 1/4th of sygar syrup could.be used and i dont want to add too much. It is already well coated and has plenty of liquid. May be you could reduce the quantity in your recipe or may be something is wrong with my preperation.
      Anyways it is awesome..thank you sooo much!

    • @KensGreekTable
      @KensGreekTable  5 лет назад

      That’s awesome!!!! The syrup amount is correct. It just may take a while for it to get absorbed by the phyllo. Either way, I’m really happy it turned out for you and you liked the result. Thanks again!!!🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼

    Nice video - please note that Baklava is a very Arabic desert, not Greek, just like Natural Yogurt is Turkish, not Greek. Culturally using certain food, dance, or music for a very long time do not make you the owner, do your research and use correct terms. I suggest the title to change to: Baklava, an Arabic dish made the Greek style... Best wishes everyone

      Story time, I don't think it would make sense to chance the name like that. When people put recipes for things like tacos they do not say that's it's a "Mexican dish made the [country] way". We don't do that for any type of food recipe
