Hey Mike: just wanted to let you know I began building a chicken coop (8’x8’) last week & used the layout method I learned from you that you used for your mini-cabin. The coop is on posts and elevated 30” off the ground-the layout method worked like a charm! Thanks for the info. I learned a lot. Really enjoy your channel-not much into firewood, but we’ve got about 37 acres in east TX, and there’s always something that needs to be done. Started watching the channel when it was primarily you & the Kubota. Learned a lot about taking care of my road from you as well. I wish you, Melissa and your family the best. Thanks again for all the good info you guys put out.
Nice looking family,I love watching you guys ,your vlogs transport me to a dream place, it is so nice there ,I’m learning a little bit more about how to build make things, thanks BigAl California.
Looking good Mike. Your so right about the outdoors. Where i live it's not so green, but being outside with just your thoughts and nature makes things better. Its awesome to see the family getting more and more involved with the channel. 😁
loved the solid sound of the steps Mike when you walked up them. screws beat nails every time... Melissa, I could not hear you going up the steps. you are spot on about how outdoors in the forest is really good for the soul.
Mike and Melissa you are doing a fantastic job on the cabin and the view from the top of the stairs is beautiful. Nice to see the family at the end. Fathers day today here, had lunch with dad then spent the afternoon making 3 raised garden beds with him so he can grow his veges without having to dig to much anymore .
I tend to use the back wheels of my tractor as a first pass compactor. Just a friendly idea. And I totally agree that you can’t be in a bad mood when in nature. Love this project. Looking for the perfect spot in my land to do the same...
Morgans in the morning, that is the way to wake up. It is nice to see Hunter out and about. Melissa and Ava, beautiful as always. Mike, did you say you once did blasting for a living? That is a job where doing things just right is vital. My Grandfather was coal miner, who did much of his own blasting. This included cutting a road out of a hillside by hanging off the edge drilling blast holes with a jack hammer. No wonder you always use protective gear and want things just right. That is the mark of a professional and someone one should learn from. Best wishes and God bless you all!!
Hey Mike that is a pretty good helper you have there. I saw Melissa checking the crown on those boards before she put them up on the porch. Nice job you guys!
I can't wait until you get the floor done and start the walls. I would live in it just for the piece and quite. The stairs will need a hand rail for us disabled to safely go up. God bless. I hope to see Hunter again soon.
This was beautiful and made tears to eyes to see you all together as family. greetings from Australia also. If ever you would come to Australia would make you welcome to Victorian alpine region and sites of interest.
I was glad to see you putting those decking boards tight together, in a year you will have an eighth of an inch gap and in two years you will have a quarter of an inch gap what with how that pressure treated lumber shrinks. Good video, thumbs up.
In Australia we leave 6mm to 8mm gap between the boards because the boards swell it depends on how much moisture in the timber from old retired aussie builder
Can't tell you how much I look forward of seeing your videos... It is like going to the candy store when I was a kid..... thank you and your family for all you do to make these videos...…...and please tell Hunter this old man is waving his hand at him
Yeah Hunter & Eva! Love how you include Hunter in all the videos! I'm Pat & I am a parent of a 26 year old son on the Autism Spectrum. Pat & Paula Harker, The Harker Family Farm in Central Oklahoma!
Mike, you keep telling us that you're not a carpenter. I looked it up..."one who carpents."😉 Dude not only are you one, but so is Melissa (I saw her crowning those deck boards 👍) I just loved how you guys explained how his interaction with your viewers works so well for Hunter. It's a good insight for us into his world. Tell Eva that she may not be sharing in all of Hunter's bounty, but from what we can see, she definitely shares his sweet personality. You guys are great!
Hunter did you come out to see that Mom and Dad were doing a great job with the mini cabin and your sister Eva had to come to see where you were? Loves and hugs from Alamogordo New Mexico USA. May God bless you and your family
Wow that is going to be a great retreat for you... Now the question is will you be able to stay still long enough to enjoy such a wonderful creation. It's nice to see all the family appear in the videos and Hunter is appearing to be a little more camera relaxed. Hi Hunter.
Hey Mike, Melissa, Hunter and Eva and of course da puppies 🐶. Great video folks. The stairs are looking good, only a suggestion, some kind of non-skid runners or paint on the stair treads. Wet treads and cold weather can be disastrous!!! Looks great around there and yes, being closer to nature is healthier in most conditions! Thanks for sharing with us and keep the videos coming.
Mike & Melissa, we should collaborate on that log splitter/chainsaw study. I'll bet money that it does in fact lead to a happier life! Though a Woodridge probably makes one happier than my slow MTD. 😊
For someone that is not a carpenter you are doing it all the right way! The rim joist is notched not through bolted so the weight is transferred ON the posts and there is no bolt through the post to act as a splitting wedge and bring the whole thing down. The one on the stairs should be okay, it wont carry that much weight and it is through bolted on the other side. The next thing I LOVED to see was you butted up the decking tight! These jackwang DIYers on TV and many "Pros" leave a space. The only thing pressure treated lumber is good for is the joists. I have a tool that clamps on the joist and sucks the flooring up very tight and the CQA crap still dries and ends up with a space. The best thing I ever used was Douglas Fir 2x6's and I never treated it. Still there today! The only thing I would have done is made it bigger and higher. Keep that in mind when you build your building. The rule is, whatever you decide you need, build it twice that big! Very nice though, I'd sleep out there in the fall!
Hi Mike and Melissa , Hunter , Hannah . I would like to make a suggestion having fitted treated timber posts for decades that you treat the posts just below and about 4 inches above the ground this is where they rot off not below the ground as many would think . You can use damp course for walls and wrap it around the post . Another option is to paint them with a mix of diesel and old engine oil and an old farmers trick . Looking good keep upnthe good work
The cabin is really looking great👍. I have a feeling this project will grow over time, another deck that will become enclosed eventually, becoming bedroom #1. More deck following and again enclosed for a walk in closet for the flannel season, camo for hunting season etc, etc etc...this has been a great project to follow and thanks for sharing👍👍👍🇺🇸
I love the outdoors and grew up in them. It makes me happy to see your family on all of the things you guys do out there in Penn country. As a Combat Veteran, I left this country not knowing what it would look like, how people would act, what other changes would happen when I came back. Watching you guys and all that you do out there in the Penn, it makes me very happy to see y'all making things happen in a good way. Thank y'all for that. I was wondering what y'all's background is if you have a construction one, or have you just learned DIY stuff throughout the years? Another one in regards to your equipment, do you have a business or have they just been bought over the years for personal use? I have watched a lot of videos on homesteading, country building, living off-grid, just living in the woods and love learning from others, getting new ideas, new ways of doing things, constructing instead of destructing. So, thumbs up to y'all and look forward to more watching. Thanks for making these! Please don't forget my questions. I appreciate it.
Great video Mike, I know I should be more original with my comments! I was pondering how many small structures your videos have inspired, I’m guessing 362
Mike, this is going to sound weird, but while you are working there on your cabin stand, maybe try this. Dig a hole about 4 feet deep with the backhoe, it doesn't have to be wide, fill it up with a scoop or two of clean 57's or 3/4 stone, run a hose from the gravel up to inside the cabin and a funnel at the top and you have yourself a urinal that is hard to smell. Not for daily use or anything, but good for emergencies. Cap the gravel with some landscape fabric so dirt doesn't silt in and cover with 2 feet of dirt or so.
Dont forget, she drives a stick ,AND throws Axes! Along with that!, a mother of FOUR, works, outside the home, manages a household, works sholder to sholder with her Man, continously has uplifting comments, ...ect...ect...AND SMILES CONSTANTLY! !!!!!!!!
Just a tip for future use. If you router just the top outside edge of your treads, they'll last a lot longer. You don't have to go crazy with the router, just use it to take the sharp edge off of the tread real quick, and the treads will last twice or three times as long.
A job well done there Mr. & Mrs. Morgan! Both of you have good reason to share in the personal satisfaction you are getting from this project . Do it right, do it once... I think the dog approves too! Bill on the Hill... :~)
Hay Mike, Now what you need to do is to pull up all those stair treads and treat all the cut edges of the stringers with that anchor seal to help prevent rotting, even on treated lumber. And where I live, you'd have to put joist hangers under each stringer to meet code.
Chainsaws, log splitters and a thermos of coffee! Good idea for the stone dust for drainage. And thinking of drainage/slope for future weather. Smart thinking!
Hey Mike, I see you are as particular about things as me! Using the ratchet strap to pull the stair stringers together was a good idea. I see you had the inspectors stop by to check out your work! Hey Eva, Hunter, and Melissa, be sure to keep Mike in check. Have a day all!
Every day is a great day, add 24:23 seconds of outdoors with the Morgan's and whoa. That's how make a Great day full of awesomeness. BTW happy labour day and the video was as usual outstanding. Morgan's have an awesome long weekend.
Hey all. Any day outside is a blessing thats for sure.. Melissa and Eve.. You two have such big smile dipples wow nice.. Plus you said something was happening here in Michigan?? Union city?? Not sure where that is.. Im by Grand Rapids Mich..so much more i could say. But i would... But Mike.Melissa. Hunter. Eve... Take care be safe...
If you were to build a cabin like I did 200 years ago... Most likely Pennsylvania had Post and beam construction... I actually cut the wood .. As fast you can input it up green.. This is why the joints are so precise. In post and beam...
Cabin coming along good, great job on the stairs they look professional . Your property is beautiful reminds me of the shore home my parents had when I was a kid.Keep the vids coming they are wonderful , love watching you guys working together
Michael- after you get the floor on, spray the underside with Froth Pak spray foam insulation (not the small cans). It’s pricey, but well worth it in performance and time spent. Lowe’s has it

Love the dogs
Nice looking family,I love watching you guys ,your vlogs transport me to a dream place, it is so nice there ,I’m learning a little bit more about how to build make things, thanks BigAl California.

Not sure how i missed this video. as usual excellent construction
I watch because Melissa is so beautiful and smart
Hey Mike that is a pretty good helper you have there. I saw Melissa checking the crown on those boards before she put them up on the porch. Nice job you guys!
I noticed that Mellisa was checking the ends of the boards for the cup 👍👍👍👍
Those boards are upside down. They will cup, not crown, and will hold water.
I can't wait until you get the floor done and start the walls. I would live in it just for the piece and quite. The stairs will need a hand rail for us disabled to safely go up. God bless. I hope to see Hunter again soon.
well done Mike in getting this done
This was beautiful and made tears to eyes to see you all together as family. greetings from Australia also. If ever you would come to Australia would make you welcome to Victorian alpine region and sites of interest.
I think Melissa needs a raise!!!
⭐️⭐️⭐️Your kids are stars⭐️⭐️⭐️ project coming along well. Another awesome video. Thanks guys!!

Another great video, nice work Morgan’s!!!!!! Hi to Hunter
I just liked it cuz hunter is cool! And overall the Morgan family is pretty good. For east coasters 😊😜😂
Lookin good guys!... Just FYI, your top tread is never flush with your deck. The deck is considered a landing. And get Melissa a tool belt... Lol
That is one beautiful piece of property!
It's always great to see Hunter. Great family.

Nice job guys.. I can't wait to see more work being done on the cabin.
Plus 1 nice ending. Woulda been cool to hear Steppenwolf when Eva rode in. Great to see Hollywood out there too.
This mini cabin project triggered the idea of building a nice deer blind on the back of my property..... Thanks for sharing...
My Dad's always talked about building a tree stand/Hilton on Stilts back in the day. It is fun watching yours take shape.
Mike and Melissa I enjoy watching you guys. The way to a man's well being is to buy him what he needs to feel useful and productive
A woman that likes guns and power tools, yep she is a keeper. Mini Cabin is looking cool to. HELLO HUNTER!

Thats going to be a great spot for.....
I noticed that also.
I wish we were preparing a tower blind but we are preparing for a hurricane here in SC 😆 thanks again for the great videos and Hunter supervising 👍👍
Absolutely awesome view!

Mike, you are one lucky man, not only is Melissa a good worker she is really a great looking woman!
