Rip henri toivonen :( he was truly the best driver and up coming multi champion in that era... what happened in his last rally, he was leading the rally by MINUTES while being sick, he had high fever. and just before he left to the last stage of his life he said in interview "these cars are way too fast, there is no enough brain to do this!" (the lancia did around 2 - 2,5 sec to 60mph/100kmh)
then, i believe in the corner where he slipped off the cliff, there was something leaked on the road and sent him into his death.
RIP Henri and Sergio, never forget!

5:12 Some of the most famous drivers in Grouop B.... Stig Blomkvist, Michèle Mouton, Hannu Mikkola, Walther Röhrl, Timo Salonen, Markku Alén, Per Eklund, Karl-Erik "Kalle" Grundel, Ari Vatanen, Juha Kankkunen and Henri Toivonen sadly he and his co-driver died on Tour de Corse, Corsica 1986 Lancia Delta S4 one of the reasons they banned Gruop B many of the cars was not safe enough for the crew and also becouse some events like in Portugal at1:13 1:34 2:14 had to much trouble with lack of crowed control. I miss the Group B era and specialy the Audi Sport Quattro S1 E2 but todays WRC cars are as fast or even faster do to better tires, breaks, suspension, gearboxes etc

Got to see that very RS200 2 years ago at Barcelos' Rallyspirit. Surreal feel to walk up to it. A good friend of my farher was just a couple corners upstage from where the accident happened, refused to speak more about it.
Also my driving school instructor was at Corsica in the same stage Toivonen and Cresto crashed, he told me he and his friends were in the town after where the stage ended and how suddenly the cars wouldn't come, then how through some of Lancia's crew's radios the news came...

Near the end of that era, in 1986 some of the cars had 500 bhp at less than 1000 kg/ 2200 lbs.
Motorsport reached many of these points in the 70s and 80s.

hehe, also it was not too uncommon to see some cut fingers in engine bay when they came back to service park... people back then was crazy, they tried to touch the cars that went past them... resulting snapping a finger in air intake vent :D

hello Dar! i was the one who recommended this video :D
one thing that does not point out at least from the video is that those group B monsters like audi S1 evolution2 and lancia S4 did over 600hp at its peak, depending on the stage and their setup, in peugeot 205 T16. they had "turbo screw" which driver could turn while driving to get more or less boost and power :D

Hey Dar, since lately you've been interested in videos about Portugal, let me tell you a (sad) fact about this video: all the footage of spectators standing in the middle of the stage, sometimes milimitres away from the passing cars, were from Rally Portugal. This behaviour was what ultimately lead to beginning of the end of Group B, due to the accident at 13:34.
Btw, 4 people died on this crash, not 3: three died on site and one of the injured died later in hospital.

@@MrBanaanipommi but not scared, he hated it. He had won everything he wanted, regardless of the car (Opel Ascona fe). A few years ago, on a car show, he ran into two other people who were half his age.

@@MrBanaanipommi In those days drivers didnt have to compete every race in WRC. It was the same in F1 also.
If Only Michelle Mouton would have competed in every race she would have been the only female rally WDC ever!
she lost out on less than 10 points.
