    Top WRC class had 2 liter turbocharged engines at the beggining of the century, since many years now they run a smaller 1.6 Turbocharged engine, both in top and on the "2nd" class (though way less powerful). And now since the 2022 season they went hybrid by adding an electric system to those 1.6 engines (only for Rally1 cars).

    My rally heroine is Michèle Mouton. She became the first woman to achieve overall victory in a World Rally Championship round when she won the San Remo Rally in 1981 with her co-driver Fabrizia Pons in an Audi quattro.
    Victories at the Rally Portugal, the Rally Greece and the Rally Brazil followed the following year. Nevertheless, she narrowly lost the 1982 World Drivers' Championship to Walter Röhrl. Together with Stig Blomqvist and Hannu Mikkola, she won the manufacturers' world championship of the same year for Audi.
    Btw; how many spectators and drivers die on average at a rally each year?

    Oh, wow! Don't know how I missed this. I've been into the local rally/hill climb scene here where I live for some time now, and am currently building my own Sti, for the Deal's Gap "Tail of the Dragon" hillclimb. This natural wonder sees 318 twists and turns within only 11 miles. Until now, I've only ever participated in a mechanical support capacity for a couple of friends, but have piloted their cars in a "shakedown" or troubleshooting run in preparation for the event.

    • @LarsonPetty
      @LarsonPetty Год назад

      Ever since I was 16, I've been on some type of track with various machines under my ass, traveling at high speeds. The TT is the only thing that I have ever seen that instantly produced a HARD nope from my self preservation instincts. Basically there's no sum of money that could get me onto a bike in that hellacious race. What's more, if you talk to the competitors, the cash involved with winning is almost an afterthought, as most will first point out the legacy and tradition of the event. It's just bravery at near superhuman levels, such as Alex Honnold's free solo climbing. Even though I could never do such things, I'm glad that there are examples of our species with the skill and courage to do so.
      For context, much of my youth involved catching venomous snakes(rattlesnake, copperhead, cottonmouth) and selling them to the congregations and clergy of the Full Gospel churches in my area, the groups that handle snakes and drink poison during their church services.
      Those onboard action cam recordings of the TT competitors are the closest thing I've ever seen to real Podracing outside of the Star Wars universe. Quite frankly, I'm amazed that they can reach such speeds with the weight of such massive nuts slowing them down, even the women....

    All time best rally driver: Stig Blomqvist, off course. Born in 1946. Won the swedish rally (part of WRC) seven times between 1971 and 1984, RAC (part of WRC) two times 1971 and 1983, world champion in 1984. Still racing. At the "Race of champions" last year they revealed the new electric rallycross car, purpouse buit for rallycross, by setting it up against a old man in a old car (Audi Quattro S1). But the old man was Stig. ruclips.net/video/7IrCuER8KDk/видео.html

    Yes, WRC/Rally is amazing! And yes, "Americans" can not drive Rally, cause you have to turn to right also and cause they can not drive like real Racing Drivers. And pls, do not call Nascar a Motorsport!! Boring as hell, monkeys driving a circle!! No offence but I really tried during those 15 years I lived in the US. Also in NC, the Official Mecca for Nascar Teams and Tracks. But no! But I am also from Finland, so you know what that means, when we are talking about Racing. Group B Rally, Isle of Man TT, Rally Cross, Snowmobile Cross Racing, Motocross.....And we love Colin and we miss him wery much (RIP). His (late) family gave Colin`s WRC Champion Driving Shoes, that he was wearing, to Kalle Rovanperä, a young Finnish WRC World Champion 2022, as an amazing gift, cause Collin was one of his greatest idols and they saw something similar with young Collin. Best Regards from Finland!!
