- Short tutorial on how to easily untangle your paragliding lines. I think this is the fastest method of shorting your line out.
I made this tutorial because I landed in trees during a demonstration flight for new student pilots :D I am used to flying my Cure and this Gin A class wing surprised me on low approach for landing (less gliding performance ) I embarrassed myself with several students watching and then proceeded to spend the day guide them on their training :D

What really impress me, is the voice of the person who is untangling the lines. His voice sounds very positive to my ears, with a lot of sense of empathy and respect, for the other people. I wish one of my two instructors were like that, as some people think that, being a paraglider instructor, is the same as being an army sergeant, like the one in the movie "Full Metal Jacket". My other instructor is very nice, however.

@@petrusaroesnosa7461 never give up on your dreams ! If your instructor can provide what you want then find another school with another instructor. This is same in Aviation ! Many instructors should not teach students as it is not for everyone to be an instructor 😉

One week ago I got my lines severely tangled up. The technique saved my day. I just needed a couple of minutes to untangle them. Last time was 2 months ago and I needed more than one hour. Thanks a lot for saving my time Peter
My fist untangle was 3h long 🤣 so learned the hard way also like you 😝
Great job again Peter to cover those details. I've watched many PG&PPG videos and have not met someone to explain that area. I remember my first untangling took more than an hour! I was thought first to clear A lines and it works, but from your tutorial I learned something more. Thank you, keep doing it, you have a talent of clear explanations :)

Thanks for this great tutorial Peter! I was yesterday in 25kph trying to control my wing from running away, whilst untangling lines like these, all on my own. It's scary when you first see the big mess but if you stay calm and follow the lines (just like you showed) everything will be alright in the end. Another valuable lesson: don't land in trees!
Quiet strong wind mate, stay safe. Yes is not nice landing at trees :) That was my first ever landing in a tree :) so everyting is for first time , right! :D

I have been paragliding for 20 years and I would have liked such a good explanation in my beginnings
But not long ago I discovered the video that I put, and I had the chance to check its effectiveness
Therefore, if you want to unravel really tangled lines, you have to do following the A from the leading edge: first A1 lines,
second A2 lines ...
Yes that correct, start with wing tip A1 and if sorted then A and everyting will follow. ;)
Good video on untangling. Keep positive control of your risers and never let them on the line, though, and you can never get them wrapped through each other.
Yes that true :) but sometimes when you land on trees you can not help it :)
Thats an easy fix. Move the trees so you don't land in them. :)
I was using trees for lift :) but if i will fly my cure i will be still flying :)

Peter a great video and thanks. This has been one of the most frustrating things learning at a school where I use their gear. I always get a different glider used by a different student. I got instruction once maybe twice on how to do this but not more. I now have my own wing!!!!! But I think I have a tangle with one line on my right C but just near the wing. Is this possible? No real need to answer that. I guess I should get a second eyeball but something didn't look right and I didn't fly. But anyway love the videos!!!!

Just GH wing and look if all lines are ok ? If still one line is wrong and still can not short it out , so then looks some one opened that small carabina on risers. If you are not sure just give wing to instructor or service it ;)

Brilliant video. The outer line idea is great. Makes it a lot easier than just concentrating on all the A's at once. Where is that flying site?
Yes make your life easier :) That site is near Swyre Hill, 5 miles from West Bay, but it is school site. Good for students very safe site but not good for people they want to fly;)

If you know to how to short your lines fast in that case is very easily to do. Remember wing tip line first and A line second ! No i did not hurt my self, before landing in trees i stall glider so when i was landing i was not moving forward i landed like helicopter so safe myself from injuries :)
Thanks for another great video Peter. Sorry you had to bushland it to show us all what what to do now to get it sorted out. I've had a few tangles but so far nothing that severe. I purchased a used speed wing to use for kiting practice and for a long time the brake line routing looked different from the left and right riser. I don't think there was any way to untangle it. I finally untied the brake line at brake handle, pulled it back through and routed it right...

I have actually flown that very glider. It is not the first time it has ended in bushes! Its glide ratio is about 1:1.
Yes that glider end up in trees or bushes few times :D If i will just fly down slope i wont land on trees but i was lazy to walk up so tried to do slope landing :D and instead end up in trees :D
Just follow the inner a lines and than the outer a lines. No need to split left and right.

Do you have any video about active riding? I dont know what it means - heavy hands. I read the breaks should be little pulled down while flying, but I dont know how much. Especially how it works on A/B gliders.
In future i will do active flying video. But it is same in all type of gliders A/B/C/D/CCC when you flying just put your hands around shoulder position, making sure you having enough tension on brakes. See my videos when i flying my hands are around shoulders :D hope it make sense for you :D

I just fixed my own Rats Nest. 220’ of Rode and Chain to my 8 LBS. Danforth Anchor to my Dinghy. Not as bad as yours, but a lifesaver nonetheless.

Peter Holdy a rode is a length of rope from the Chain part of Anchor to the boat. A Dinghy is a small tag along boat to your bigger boat. A Dinghy can be a rescue boat, or a small boat to use while you bigger boat is moored or in a slip (parking spot in the marina / water). A Rats Nest is a phrase used to describe a jumbled mess of rope, or lines. You had a Rats Nest in the vid. So did I, with my Anchor Line. I’m sorry. Do you understand now?

The lines are made of Kevlar right? Did you inspect each line for internal breakage?
Aramide/Kevlar lines or Dyneema lines they are used for PG. In some case you have mix of those lines in your wing. Always inspecting all lines when i will land badly as i want to be sure evereting is OK. In normal days i do not check all lines as i know they should be fine. After 10-15 hours i always will check my all lines at home. That is me, but you can check all glider before every flight, will keep you safe ;)
Peter Holdy that is prudent to check your lines every now and again. Up in the air is not the time to find out one or lines are internally ripped or broken.
Sure ! You have to always to do check before flight. If you will see broken line in the air is not big deal after you land you will need to short that broken line before next flight :D

Untangle porn at its best! I remember the first time untangling a severe "birds nest". I tried for ages and could not get it right. Then an experienced pilot came over and said "hey you just need to follow the A's"... Simple trick, but it's not part of the training :D That's what I love about paragliding: Everyone is happy to help and to share knowledge.

Untangling A's first wasn't part of your training? You must have been more successful at kiting/ground handling than myself. I would have spent all of my first two days untangling lines if my instructor didn't give me these tips. (Although, I don't recall if he specified to untangle the outside A's first -- he probably did, but I forgot).
