    So useful!!! Thanks for such a straight forward explanation of registration and a cheap way of achieving it - no special equipment needed, brilliant! I'll probably draw a wee arrow on the back of my pages, pointing towards the right angle card to prevent any chance of printing in the wrong direction☺️

    Has anyone ever used this in the classroom setting? I'll have about 60 students doing reduction lino cuts and I'm wondering if every kid has to make their own registration or if I can reuse the registration for my different classes.

    Dear Yeates Makes
    Thank you for your advice! You are so helpful! and guess what? I have a friend in Australia (I am in Vancouver, Canada) and we were texting the other day when I mentioned I wanted to play with my gelli plate and her response was that she did also and really found the Yeates Makes RUclips videos helpful! So, you are impacting makers around the world! Thank you for your generosity!
    Question: I am covetting the really skinny roller your partner gave you! Do you know where it is from? or the brand?
    Thank you,
    Barb

    • @yeatesmakes
      @yeatesmakes  Год назад

      Hi Barb, lovely comment thanks. I pinned a link to where the thin roller came from on my 'Big Gel plate - 1st impressions' video. Should be easy to find on the channel.
      Still haven't got used to all these amazing comments from all over the world, YoutTube is a great way to get an encouraging community together : )

      Lino is just safe cut, really easy to cut but you don't get the delicacy and range of marks possible with hessian backed battleship stuff.

    Brilliant - thankyou so much for the ‘registering’ tips. Does the calico ink dry quickly? TIA

    • @yeatesmakes
      @yeatesmakes  Год назад

      Hi Tricia, a pleasure. printmaking can be a bit equipment intensive and costly so any tips to cut costs I am happy to share. Caligo ink dries pretty quickly - the second, third etc layers take longer obviously. just hang em on a line or tape the to cupboards for a couple of days and they'll be dry

  • @pippipants
    @pippipants 2 года назад +1

    Really useful tips, thanks! I get really confused with reduction prints. Do you have any tips about how to work out the order that you cut away when you have your design worked out? I may be over thinking it but I normally end up making several plates instead.

    • @yeatesmakes
      @yeatesmakes  2 года назад +2

      The best way to start is with a 2 colour. Draw your design with clear areas of black, midtones and white. Carve away what you want white - print onto white paper in the colour you want the midtone. then carve away the midtone and print back over your print in black. Hope that makes sense : )

    Is there anything you do to prevent paint marks outside the borders of your print?

    • @yeatesmakes
      @yeatesmakes  Год назад

      I guess just making sure you've reduced the block right down where you don't want marks then being really vigilant about clean fingers!!!!

  • @lizday8140
    @lizday8140 Год назад

    I do have a few questions. Did you do a series of this print, or just the one-off? If so, how many did you end up with in the end, and did you keep a "Progressive Suite" of your layers? (Get me! I'm learning about printmaking on RUclips!)
