Putting mono-printing, painting, collage and charcoal portraits together in one work offers me the opportunity to use many of my favorite media all at once! Such a beautiful and well done lesson. I always want to run off and go do every single thing you've just shown us. Thank you. And again more thanks.
Your content reinvigorates my interest in art. Loving the experimental spirit. Really motivating to know there's so many ways to make images as well as countless ways to mix and match styles and techniques.
👏👏👏👏👏 an excellent tutorial in charcoal transfers with distressed paint enbellishment. Love the results. As always, your work goes above and beyond the norm. Thank you!
It is so motivating to watch you drawing and then giving the portraits an interesting context, the Bacon portraits really blew my mind. Believe it or not, I was just going to film tracing a picture from a print, but with a painting by Otto Mueller. I hope you don’t mind me doing that. I learned so much from you, and that I feel so confident of doing this RUclips thing is also greatly owed to you…if that is even a correct English sentence…cheers from Berlin!
Du bist so unglaublich gut - und weit und breit der Einzige, der die ganzen Techniken wirklich frei, kreativ und mit eigner Handschrift verwendet. Einfach großartig! Danke
Is it just water you use in the spray bottle? … I love to start playing with my gelatin plate again…it’s been so long time since I’ve used and have energy to be creative…so back to watching my favorite artist and then just hoping for more good vibes to get started again…BIG digital hug from Laila your biggest fan in Norway ❤…
Thanks Mark for yet another inspiration packed video! Looking forward to part 2 where you explore landscapes (even though this video contains so many ideas that could keep me busy for months or longer). My favorite image is the red one with the blue circle overlay.
Love your approach, always thinking about composition and problem solving but most importantly enjoying the journey. Great motivation to just try and see what happens
I have been following you for some time. And I’ve never seen this video! This is awesome! What a great idea! I can’t wait to try it! Thank you, thank you thank you!
I’m fairly new to gelli plates and purchased it specifically to transfer some of my photos and add papers and textures. Your lessons are helping to teach me the techniques of how to create my vision. THANK YOU
Excellente vidéo, aussi bien au niveau des fonds que des transferts au charbon de bois : merci mille fois ! et merci pour la dernière idée à partir d'une photo : je ne sais pas dessiner, mais là, je sens que je vais faire des progrès !
Thank you for the new video! Am always inspired by your investigations. I love to see the cross pollination of ideas and techniques from the Gel Printers Summit!
Thanks, glad vid is useful to you. I haven't even got through all those contributions to GPS yet! Sally's alone was enough to keep me busy for a while!
This is fabulous! I'm so over trying to get successful transfers of family photos so the charcoal and chalk pastels feel like the keys to the kingdom! 🙏👌
Watching your videos, I have learned so much about gel prints. In addition to being an artist, you are a good teacher. I said that in my new video on gel prints on a quilted wall hanging.
I just found you today and I am absolutely loving your work. I have been away from my studio for a couple months and because of you I am back. Thank you so much for the inspiration. Really, thank you.
I've enjoyed very much your demonstrations of various techniques using gel plates. Thank you! I liked how you showed the combination of collage on paper and using textured items as stamps to both remove from and add paint to the plate. I liked that you smudged the charcoal drawing slightly and want to try that. I have some *very old* charcoal drawings that I might use for fun.
Hey Mark, I recently bought a bundle of past issues of the amazing Canadian art magazine "Uppercase." They are so inspiring! Last night when reading issue 56 on the theme "sounds creative," I saw your lino cut of Howlin' Wolf! Great to see your work in print. I've seen a few of your art works of musicians now, so it's perfect that you were in that issue! I always enjoy your art, and watching your process! You have so many cool ideas.
This whole video kept me spell-bound for the duration! I felt as though I was back in art school again! This is fascinating, and I think I would probably take to this, as it is a similar set of skills to the glass etching I have done in the past. Have you ever used alcohol to change the effect of the paint on the gel plate. (Alcohol on the surface, not ingested. 🤣😂)
Thankyou ! Love these techniques .I am finding the process very interesting in my early experience with Gel plates . Your Charcoal drawings are wonderful 😊
So interesting where your exploring has led you. Love the idea of distressed layers on the plate before transferring the drawing. Really like removing some of the paint with tape. Cool idea. I have been playing with the Golden high flow acrylics on my Gelli plate. They give a similar effect as adding water but dry much quicker, which is good for me as I’m super impatient . 😊 I’m going to have a play with some landscapes tomorrow. Thanks for sharing. 😊
Thanks so much this great. I want to make a serie of portraits of wonderful women and was looking for the right techniques...I'm definitely trying this out😊
Loving your channel, thank you. I love that you're pushing the boundaries and showing us such innovative ways of working. Love the grungy finishes - its a great counterpoint to all the "pretty" stuff which doesn't really hold much appeal for me personally. Appreciate you sharing your experiments.😍
Thank for very much for these charcoal videos, which have inspired me to have a go at this too. You mention an upcoming video which also incorporates collage. Did you ever make that, and if so, where can I find it please?
I really love the textures you're using with these, and the ways the acrylic marks blend and contrast with the charcoal and pastel marks. It's as though there's a whole new hybrid medium at work here. The spray technique and the subtractive masking tape technique are lovely. Gorgeous, rich results! Also appreciate the tip about drawing loosely over a faint print. Opens up a large number of possibilities! Thanks!
Thanks for the suggestion about the baby oil and wet wipe helping with the charcoal residue! I had the idea to transfer a charcoal drawing several months back and was very frustrated that it stuck on my gel plate for a long long time...was worried that I'd ruined the plate! I'll have to try again!
You are so inspiring with the gel plate! Absolutely brilliant! Thank you so much for sharing and for the advice on drawing. I have zero skills for drawing and really want to learn.
Mark,I squealed out loud when you pulled the first print! (Scared my cat) Just so interesting and exciting. I love your experimenting with Sally Hirst’s techniques. The video is just loaded with demo’s. As always thank you for sharing your work. Wishing you Happy Holidays🎄
Thanks for your video series. You are a mine of useful ideas. i have a 16 x 20 gel plate for A2 sized work but would like to go up a size so I can make A1 sized posters. Do you know if anyone makes a bigger plate?
Love your videos. Thanks for sharing. What size is that plate? And you mentioned Gel elf(?) plate? Can you share the name manufacturer of the plate? Really appreciate your approach to creating prints.
Hi! I was looking for a rubber transparent board in my local but it's very expensive but as alternative i found the PVC transparent table cover, do you think it would do the same job? And it's thick 3mm, thank you so much! ❤️❤️❤️
Awesome works..im new to gelli printing,im still working on using charcoal transfer ,inkjet prints to get images to show on my plate, may i ask what kind of charcoal you using..

Sally Hirst is the collage artist you mentioned. I’ve done one of her basic online courses into gel print tips- recommended..

Just have the baby wipes and bay lotion to hand to clean any residual charcoal off the plate.
