Mark - Which pastels (expensive or cheap) were you using for the demos from 3:00 forward? Love your videos which are far better than most of the other gel plate videos here on RUclips. Thanks! 🥰
Great video thanks for sharing. Just a tip of something I have tried with soft pastel ( grated finest on a kitchen Zester tool ) also graphite powder works too… is to use a piece of old stocking and make a pouncing bag… pouncing over the stencils to get a soft blurry look…works well.. ❤
Mark, you're my favourite kind of teacher - curious, playful, skilled, and unpretentious. Thank you very much for sharing your creative endeavours here on youtube. It's very much appreciated.
Your art capacity will never stop to baffle me… you just come up with the most amazing sketches and transfers and ideas and creativity… WOW 😱can watch you gel printing for hours 🎉
Gelli results are often full of uncertainties. The struggle is interesting. I like the sealant qualities for many types of media such as pastel, charcoal and Sharpie pens. The old dry pastel technique requiring just the right amount of fixative and costly framing with efforts to avoid dust particles left many sets sitting in the drawer. Now beautiful pastel colours can have new life without being dulled in the gelli process. Thanks Mark.
There’s a lot of snobbery in the art world generally. I belong to a printmaking cooperative, and they’ve finally recognised the benefits of the gelli plate, and embrace its advantages.
I first came across gel plate printing at a demo event at my local art store. I was surprised by the volume of "crafty' people using gel plates on RUclips. Glad to find artists who are exploring its possibilities also.
Can I make a recommendation. If you set up an Amazon affiliate link to all the products you use you could make a small commission anytime someone buys from the link. It would also help up because I can't find the craft paper you are talking about it comes up with all different kinds. With the amount of veiws and support you have I'd imagine you'd make a fair additional income. Love your work ❤
First I want to compliment you on how concise your videos are. You have actually save me a years worth of experimentation of my own and are allowing me to enter this field with all of this extra knowledge that you have provided. I no longer have questions in my mind about if things will work. I know they will. You’re exactly the kind of professional, that I love to watch and listen to and learn from. I wish there were more people like you on RUclips!!!🥰. Oh, yeah…and you’re easy on the eyes as well!
Very kind comment, glad that what I've posted is of use. YT is a great place for democratizing knowledge and skills and giving people access to what they are interested in. Happy New Year to you : )
Mark: I sort of lost direction with the gelliplate for a while, but your latest vid along with the previous one about using chalk pastels has energised me again. Lots of different techniques to try. Thanks for the videos, keep 'em coming!
I have just started looking into Gel plate printing and your videos are the most exciting I have seen using this medium. Your drawing skills really make a difference too. So over seeing wallpaper type prints. Well done and thank you!
60 yr old, newie to drawing, sketchjng and mixed media. Am really curious to try gel plate experiments. This looks SUCH FUN!! Love your user-friendly, wallet-friendly ideas!!
Wow. Great video. You explained everything so well, with a lot of information & putting things in context. I am just getting going with gel plate art, as I was attending art college & didn't have time for it. I acquired some equipment, & this artist, Yeates, it a treasure to find for pursuing this art. I am especially thrilled with this particular video, that I happened upon, right as I am about to get back to hands on art (after a lot of studio setup, etc). Wow. This could not have been a more perfect video for the experimentation I want to do. I especially love this combo of drawing/ painting/ printing, & using chalk pastels! Wow. I like to draw with pastels, but the need to fix them & protect them under glass was a total turn off. I felt I had wasted $/ supplies, until now. You just made my day. I think you are doing a superb job in teaching/ putting things in context/ showing which past videos give background instruction. Plus great art & a good spirited artist. I think you are just awesome, & I am totally thankful for you & your videos. Blessings. Peace everyone. Love wins.
Agreed! Gel Plates are in a league of their own, and they are certainly more amenable to experimentation, adaptation for a wider variety of styles/effects.
I find using Butcher paper as a cheap paper to use. My uncle used to use it for his parrot cage, When his bird died he gave me a huge roll of it to use an i started using on the plate
Another brilliant video Mark. Ooooos coming from every stage this side of the camera. Thanks for being so generous with your experiments and inspirations, they and you are hugely appreciated!!
Oh la laaaaa!!! C’est fantastique ! Quel talent. Je suis bluffée à chaque vidéo. Merci du partage, vous êtes un excellent prof et une grande inspiration. 😘👍
Hey Mark, thanks for expressing the Gelliplate love, that all of us here on the grungier side have! Very good explaining too! 💕 from Berlin, 🙋🏻♀🎨 Tina
This was such a fantastic video showing the process. It’s inspired me to try this for a art piece I’ve been trying to determine the way I wanted to achieve my vision…and I’d already done a bit of playing around with chalk pastels on a printed imaged on paper, but you have given me the perfect answer!! Love your videos and your experiments with gel plates
Dusting through with chalk pastle: you could use carpenters glass paper to get a 'pool' of dust to blow or sprinkle through your stencil. It's like being back at art school..
Mark, new subscriber here! Found your channel literally this evening...bingeing on your posts now because I loved your unusual supplies video so much 😁 TYSMFS your amazing art and skills with the gelli plate
I was wondering if you had a new video and so happy to see that you do. Your information is so wonderful. You must have been very busy with your art and family. Will have to get out my pan pastels and see what I can do with them.
This was wonderful Mark, am going to try some of these techniques (and watch the cardboard one next) Just followed you on IG too! Yay Thanks so much. P.S. Long videos are never boring! :-)
Hey Mark! I'm fairly new to your channel and have been devouring all your vids. Soooo much good new ideas and inspiration! I wonder if you've played with thick paint vs fluid paint on the gelli plate? The thick body paint or paint mixed with a thicker medium leaves a raised bit of design. Then when you use the more fluid acrylics it makes a different sort of affect. Just wanted to pass that on for you to play with! I imagine you'll do a lot of fun stuff with the different reliefs you can pull. Theres also stamping directly on the plate with a pigment stamp ink, like a Stazon ink pad. That being said you can also use alcohol based markers like Sharpies! Very fun for new Marks and layers in your gelli prints. Hopefully you find some new stuff to play with there! I cant wait to see more new videos! Keep going!! 👍😎
Have you ever thought of using a light coat of casein spray fix over the chalk before pulling the print to avoid smearing? Just an idea…here in US we have a non toxic one called spectrafix
🫶your ideas!! 💭Im pondering if you could roll the transfer paint onto something like wax paper and place it face down on the Gelli rather than dotting the paint and rolling over your (carefully engineered soft color) laid stencil?
Hey thank you for the video! Can you please tell what product are you using in minute 16:25 to transfer the drawing but using a transparent background?
Re uploaded with missing audio added at end!!! Sorry

You're the best gelli plate artist I've found so far,on RUclips. Your background in Graphics gives so much strength to everything you're doing.
Your art capacity will never stop to baffle me… you just come up with the most amazing sketches and transfers and ideas and creativity… WOW 😱can watch you gel printing for hours 🎉
You've definitely raised gel plates from " craft" to a legit artform! Loving it.

@@yeatesmakes I agree - it offers much that other forms of printmaking don't offer and you are extending it even further.

Never would have thought of using pastels. The softness is wonderful contrast.

Hey thank you for the video! Can you please tell what product are you using in minute 16:25 to transfer the drawing but using a transparent background?
Is the chalk pastel sealed on both sides with the acrylic? When it lifts would not the side that does not have the acrylic base be open
Cordial saludo, ¿Cual es el tipo de papel que usas? Gracias👍😀
