We apologize for the low camera angle on the action camera footage. We will try to prevent it from happening again. We hope you enjoyed the video! We have been trying harder to improve our videos.
CycleCruza im dissapointed in you. how do u find the honda civic of motorcycles cool? bland, no soul, small gas tank. it will depreciate so fast. spend it on a real cruiser like a vulcan or any yamaha 950. even the shadow lines are way more attractive its a shame they didnt work on that 750 engine insread.
I have to agree with you. I sat on one last week, the 300. I am a 6 foot tall kinda fat guy, and the seating position was a nice cross between cruiser and standard. I would love to see you be able to review this one.
On the contrary. The old Rebel was one of the best bikes around - or would be if it had a larger engine. I was super-excited when I heard Honda was going to make a Rebel 500, since I've been longing for 'a Rebel with a larger engine' - in those exact words - for seven years. But they lied. This is still a nice bike, but very disappointing with its super-uncomfortable (and inexplicable) long reach and big-dick exhaust pipe.
I'll never understand why manufacturers take a square digital display and force it into a circular gauge and add those black outs on either side. Just create a circular display, or house it in a rectangular gauge
That bike looks great! Good to see Honda beefing up the Rebel a little bit and bringing it into 2017. It's like a smaller Yamaha Bolt, and that's a compliment because Bolts are great bikes. I'm happy to see some diversification of entry-level bikes or bikes for people who just want to look cool putting around town. You're wasting cc's on a 1500 if all you're doing is hopping from stoplight to stoplight. Thanks for the review!
As the proud owner of two 85 shadows, an 1100 and a 500 I honestly say the 500 has certainly been my favorite. Easy to push when out of gas, park, mod, etc. Anyway, can't help but feel enthusiastic about these bikes. My 500 has always been super reliable and just plain fun and I imagine many great adventures are underway.
Wow, that would be the best beginner bike ever. I still remember the old Honda Rebels. I remember the first time i saw one. I wanted one so bad. But after i rode a bit, I realized the 200 and 400 was to small for me. I started out on a 650cc and never wanted anything smaller then that.
Jojo Crazy Cat looking to buy my first road legal motorcycle. I’ve been looking at 2017 abs or 2018 abs rebel 500. This vid just confirmed my purchase.
Might want to move the camera up for the next video like this. Reason motovlogs and stuff are so popular isn't just the bike. it's also seeing the other stuff the rider can see. Other than that, great video on a great bike! :)
camillepatricepercussion if you don't buy good gear and a crap used bike than yeah, I agree with you. If you are the kind to buy a Scorpion helmet that doesn't even fit correctly and a Joe Rocket jacket then good luck.
Ride-along camera position was way too low - gave a great view of the tank. No performance mention on the highways except what could be minimally seen. Capable speeds? Acceleration? Ride height? Tall friendly? Comparisons? The only impressions I got was appearance and the top of the fuel tank.
They did here what they seem to do in a lot of their videos, breeze over a basic description of the bike and hope you'll visit the website for a full review. They just need to do a bit better at actually telling us there's a more detailed review on their site. A link is in the description.
The bigger dude from Revzilla, Lenny (?), is 275 pounds and took the Rebel 300 easily up to highway speed. I'd say the 500 is probably highway worthy as far as performance goes.
It's about damn time the Rebel got an update. I like the looks but I'm personally not interested in beginner cruisers. It should be awesome for beginners or intermediates, or even a daily putter.
Honda could go back to its roots. The vintage CB 350, CB 400, and CB 500 were cool designs. This platform is perfect for a standard riding position bike. Just tweak the design a bit and call it the "Vintage CB" or "Heritage CB" line-up?!
Man..This is really throwing a wrench in my plans! I mainly into standards and wanted to start with a CB500F or a used Gladius/SV650. Those custom Rebel 500's look gorgeous. I'd love to bob one of these out.
Love the styling, I wonder if Honda could give us this exact bike with an even bigger twin, better suspension and better brakes? I think that would be cool, like a 750cc or closer to 900.
Custom tank will be tricky, but some short apes, sissy bar, drop down bar end mirrors then chop and wrap the pipe with some forward foot controls and I'll have a nice little pub hopper for in town crawling.
Saw one of these the other day while riding my little Harley 1200 Forty Eight which is awesome but the chic riding the Honda I think got more attention of course one because She is a girl on a bike but also I dont think anyone knew what the bike was including me. Honda really did well with this bike! Looks like a really fun bike to ride. Great video by the way.
I personally think it looks great and I can see why some people would complain about the styling. I just don't understand why everyone is complaining about it being "only 500cc".
Personally I think it looks good but looks are subjective. There's too much hate for smaller engines though. It's fun to rip small engines through the gears especially if you commute everyday on a bike.
How is it for casual highway (moderate/long distance) driving? My 250 tops out @ like 65 to low 70's depending on wind. How does the 500 fair on highway max speed? Also, is the headlight/turn/break lights halogen or LED?
Cant find any answers to these concerns I have about the Rebel 500, so its worth a shot on youtube! I only weigh 140lbs if that helps. 1) If cruising at 75mph for a distance, could it handle it without revving to an insane level? Also would it be terrible for this engine to cruise at 75 or more? Lastly, is there any pickup left at that speed? 2) With no tachometer, how is one supposed to "watch the revs," when breaking it in for the first thousand miles? (I know that theres a specific break in period for any engine, often requiring to keep it at specific revs). 3) Is it possible to install an aftermarket tachometer on it? 4) Honda doesn't say if the bike has traction control, does it? (preferably not wanting it).
Can't wait to get my hands on this baby... looking forward to my first bike. The only thing i'm missing is the $6,300. That ain't an obstacle though. I'm getting it
I've liked your description about the bike however recording video not good. You should've take that camera on your helmet to take perfect recording. So far so good....
Now if they did one of these with the 900cc engine that would be awesome. I would like a more traditional bobber style round tank, but I like the mix of sporty with cruiser. Glad they are making Rebel not just for training classes anymore.
I really Iike the new Rebel. To say that the old Rebel was getting a long in the tooth, after 32 years would be an understatement. I think they did a great job updating it. That lane splitting looks pretty terrifying to me. But, I suppose you get used to it.
I wonder what do you get going from air cool twin cyl, with carb to liquid cooled, fuel injected with computer? Does it start and run any smoother or just complicates things?
james henry , I have a CB500F too, and it's a great bike. The engine response is great, I can imagine the Rebel being a great bike too. Just not looking forward for the 8k mile valve check. Like all Honda's not the best on anything, but pretty good at almost everything. BTW not my only bike either, have a Harley and a WR250R.
Having own larger bikes the 500cc will do 90% of everything a person needs. I've done several trips loaded with 70 Lbs of camping gear over Two thousand miles without any problem. I love my cb500f but have considered a 650cc- 700cc that would be the most cc's I would need unless I thought I needed to pull a small trailer, which I fill no need to !
I retract myself, the valve adjustment is done at 16k miles not 8k. It's a fantastic motor. The 2013 cbr500r had to have the valves checked at 600 miles during the first service. It was revised for 2014. The engine works great it's not gutless, not a super Sportbike but it does a great job. My bike has over 2k miles and the valves do make noise.
I am really confused why people think this bike looks horrible. I love the look, but I love the look of a lot of bikes, honestly been looking into the 300 rebel as my first starter bike.
Whats your opinion on size compared to the old generation Rebel. I am 5'11" with a 32 inch inseam. The classic Rebel was too small for me. Did Honda change the ergonomics and size of the chassis of the new one to better accommodate taller people or is it still designed for those with a shorter inseam?
Adam N. Want a bigger bike? Then don't get a Rebel. PLENTY of other bikes out there to suit your needs. Try to stop complaining about motorcycles that shorter people have a chance at riding. Small bikes are the minority. Just like most stuff in life. Large people have a plethora of shoes to choose from for example. I'm a 6.5 shoe and 7 in 'sneakers.' It's hell for me, while folks like you have tons of huge boat size shoes to choose from. Same with motorcycles. Leave the rebel alone for us short folks who deserve a ride. If anything, small people should shout 'discrimination' for all the stuff we can't use. More left handed people too. Larger people won't stop whining until every single thing is tailored for them. It's selfish. Larger people aren't more important, they only think they are. Delusion.
Cast InTheName Umm, first of all my question was a simple question posed to the reviewer. Second of all it wasn't some sort of an attack on smaller people and bikes that required u to go off on a rant. Third of all I currently ride a Yamaha Vstar 250, a bike that directly competes with the classic Rebel, has nearly the same 31 inch seat but whose overall ergonomics allow it to still accommodate those with bigger inseams while still accommodating smaller riders. I was simply trying to find out if the new Rebels ergonomic changes improved things for taller riders.
Hey Adam, yes the bike is fine for taller riders as well. I'm 6ft and I fit comfortably on the bike with no issues, even 6'4" Morgan at Cruiser found it surprisingly comfy. You can see some photos of me on the bike in the full review to get a better idea of the seating ergos here! www.motorcycle.com/manufacturer/honda/2017-honda-rebel-500-review-first-ride.html
Unnecessarily hostile reaction of the day goes to... It's very apparent that he was only asking if it has changed in any way that would suit taller riders and is in no way complaining about the bike being designed for shorter riders.
Good day @Motorcycle.com! Which would be more, as the say, bang for the buck? This Honda Rebel 500 or the Kawasaki Vulcan S 650? I know that you can't just compare 500cc to 650cc, but I would like to have your opinion on this, thank you very much!
Love it, except the tail light. What's up with that? Does Honda have a warehouse full of tail lights from the 1980s that need a purpose? Beautiful shape, paint, quality... BAM! 1983 brake light.
I really dislike crotch rockets and there are elements of this bike I think really haven't hit the mark. That fat sports-looking exhaust really ruins the whole look IMO
$6000 is £4400 (at time of writing this) yet its £5599 so about $7650 it does have to have abs in europe and britain but still when you include tax £5700 is a bit much
Not for me, that being said not every thing is for every body, a day on ANY motorcycle is a good day. I've rode one of these, it was fun! You can muscle it around, be very aggressive with it! If this is in your budget, buy it, have fun!
Sat on this and hated foot peg placement. VERY uncomfortable on knees, I’m 5’8/175 lbs. Can anyone tell me if the Yamaha Bolt is the same seating position??
Quick question. I'm trying to get my MC license again after being out of the community for 22 years. My question, will the rebel 500 fuel tank fit the rebel 300
Dalton Schaible I know that much, thank you. However the 300 has a 2.96 gallon fuel capacity and the 500 has a 3.96 gallon capacity. So my question is actually, can I get a 300 with a 500s tank.
I would prefer if you guys could be more critical of the bikes that you review. I want to know also the downsides of the bikes, because no bike is perfect. If I don't hear a single bad thing, it smells a bit like a bought review, if you can call it a review even. Just my two cents.
I'm genuinely intrigued by this bike. I need one for riding in the city (Chicago) that I won't mind getting dinged up and dirty a little more. Looks like it is small enough to fit into tighter parking spaces on the streets (which is a dream come true if I'm anywhere downtown).
I wish someone would show REAL WORLD REAL TIME..uphill interstate highway runs of the 2017 or newer rebel 300 with a 200+ pound rider on it to show whether it truly does or doesn't struggle to maintain 60mph as the top speed is 95 per every site I've checked out. Also am interested in that if the rebel 300 shares the same bad feeling of " being bucked during turns" given the lighter 40 ish pounds of weight versus the rebel 500. I don't want the sub 70 ish mpg rebel 500 and the extra 40 ish pounds to deal with. I'm thinking about the 2018 Ninja 400 so far, but love the rider stance of the rebel.
We apologize for the low camera angle on the action camera footage. We will try to prevent it from happening again. We hope you enjoyed the video! We have been trying harder to improve our videos.
Motorcycle.com is splitting traffic legal?
It is legal here in California!
Still some of the best quality motorcycle videos on YT. Keep up the good work!
Motorcycle.com video is awesome
Motorcycle.com you doing good bro. Thanks for sharing. Great video.
Well all be dang, they finally made the Honda rebel cool. Nice. Honda is making moves!

i love the stock design. the round housing matches the bike well.but the digital display is nice and modern
My least favourite part of the bike
That bike looks great! Good to see Honda beefing up the Rebel a little bit and bringing it into 2017. It's like a smaller Yamaha Bolt, and that's a compliment because Bolts are great bikes. I've been looking into bikes recently. and this most certainly has my eye. as a soon to be noob, this bike is what I wanted.
More people need to ride in America
Lord Voldermort what a stupid excuse. Just admit you're poor and can't afford it
Lord Voldemort Just like most car drivers, right? lol
dbtrackz33 riding isn't expensive?

I'd instantly peel off those warning stickers.

a legend reborn!
Who is this new guy? Nice to see a new face on this channel. Hopefully he can up his writing game as he keeps pushing out vids.
Can't wait for this to become available used in 5 years.
i just saw this bike today. looks amazing, if you like bikes, you can't not notice her!
Love the look of the bike because it has a bobber/ cruiser mix look to it.
Love the styling, I wonder if Honda could give us this exact bike with an even bigger twin, better suspension and better brakes? I think that would be cool, like a 750cc or closer to 900.
I was looking at a 2022 Rebel 1100 today, really nice bike.
Custom tank will be tricky, but some short apes, sissy bar, drop down bar end mirrors then chop and wrap the pipe with some forward foot controls and I'll have a nice little pub hopper for in town crawling.
Hello @Motorcycle.com what kind of helmet camera are you using? Great video and audio!
Saw these at the Long Beach show. They look much cooler in person.
Saw one of these the other day while riding my little Harley 1200 Forty Eight which is awesome but the chic riding the Honda I think got more attention of course one because She is a girl on a bike but also I dont think anyone knew what the bike was including me. This was a good review, minus the body camera footage while riding.
Hey man i really like your reviews and videos and wanted to ask you something: Is rebel 500 small for me. I am 1.85m and 110kg. Cheers!
Cool mate, this is one of the best videos I have watched on Yt.Great voice, super review mate, ride Honda, ride safe.

Would you be able to take a pillion on this? I can't ride atm and am curious how this would handle two riders of it could.
"That's right baby. That's a damn rebel" 😂 I'll sub for that
I'm happy to see the new look.
It looks so beautiful 😩
One of these could definitely be made into an incredibly badass scrambler
I think it looks pretty good in the matte black.
Great video, and camera quality! The angle was a little low but overall it was beautifully done , I wouldn’t mind owning one of these
I've liked your description about the bike however recording video not good. You should've take that camera on your helmet to take perfect recording. So far so good....
Just picked up the 18 and i freakin love it
wtf is that camera angle ?
Do you think for a long distance drive, half or one hour, is better to buy a 500X ? Witch one has better driving position?
Cool bkes!! in the 60s we pulled off a lot of front and rear mudguards off, ruined a lot of shirts with the fling.
Now if they did one of these with the 900cc engine that would be awesome. I would like a more traditional bobber style round tank, but I like the mix of sporty with cruiser. Glad they are making Rebel not just for training classes anymore.
Great video if all you wanted to see on the ride was the red tank. It would be better for me if the camera showed the traffic and road.
Nice review mate and Interesting place to review. I love the new design. It will be a huge seller as it fills a void in the mc world
Price is a little steep. FZ07 is only $1k more and 20 more HP. If it had ABS standard, $6k would maybe make sense. The 500 should be $5k.
You want expensive? Rounds out to about $9K in Australia lol
8500 here in Canada. ugh
fucking 11k here in New Zealand :(
Honda has a bit more of a markup than other manufactures, the extra 500-1000 bucks on Honda's is purely for the name.
rclines001 in brazil this is the value of a honda 150 lol
nothing beats my 86 Rebel 450
Now your talkin'! I love my first Generation Rebel too!
"Woo! lets see what this rebel can do!"....gets stuck in typical LA 101 traffic. lol.
Who's the host? Enjoyed the video but he didn't say his name. Haven't seen him previously.

Sick looking little bike, if the rebel looked this cool when I first started riding I may have got it instead of a shadow.
I love the vintage look.. relaxed seating position.. reminds me of the kinda bike Logan may ride
love how it looks
This Honda 500cc is a great motor ,love my cb500f
james henry , I have a CB500F too, and it's a great bike. The engine response is great, I can imagine the Rebel being a great bike too. Just not looking forward for the 8k mile valve check. Good learner engine. You'll outgrow it.

Having own larger bikes the 500cc will do 90% of everything a person needs. I've done several trips loaded with 70 Lbs of camping gear over Two thousand miles without any problem. Is the honda rebel 300 a good beginner bike? That I can drive to college and work which is only 10 mins away from where I live .
for what i've read, it IS one of the best beginner bikes
Awesome video, Seriously going to check this bike out.
What's some good gear for a beginner Rider and what's a good camera to use while riding
How tall are you? I was told that if I'm over 6 foot and I'm actually 6'1 then I shouldn't get this bike.
Who shot and directed this video? Thanks!
Where is the location with the trains and graffiti at? Are you allowed to ride there or do you need any special permit?
I’m 4”8 and I’m honestly not sure I can fit on one,what y’all think?

Hi im a 6'5 male 155 pounds looking for a starter bike would you say with how bike comes i could fit on it
How well do you think it would ride if A pretty small dude like 5’4 tried to hop on it
would this be a good bike for a first time rider?
Juan Ochoa yes
I don't see the USB port you have there in the honda showroom, mind to shed a light
I like that blue/white caferacer one.
I can somewhat envision this becoming quite a decent bobber project.
Love it, except the tail light. What's up with that? Does Honda have a warehouse full of tail lights from the 1980s that need a purpose? Beautiful shape, paint, quality... BAM! 1983 brake light.
Mabye a very stupid question. what's the difference between rebel 500 and rebel cmx 500?
just curious I personally like the look to it but why do you think it's ugly?
I really dislike crotch rockets and there are elements of this bike I think really haven't hit the mark. That fat sports-looking exhaust really ruins the whole look IMO
"It has some buzz..." LOL, I can't imagine what a Harley would feel like then...
a buzz is more like the 125cc sound, a Harley does not have that problem it just sounds right :D
Awesome, video. Thanks! I'm really considering this one to be my next ride
would a 500 rebel be a good beginner bike to start on
On hondas website the abs only comes in silver.
So it has no tachometer!? Can you put an aftermarket to it?
lovely shot video! awesome bike
Edward Valentino Same bike different engine
Dalton Schaible I know that much, thank you. However the 300 has a 2.96 gallon fuel capacity and the 500 has a 3.96 gallon capacity. So my question is actually, can I get a 300 with a 500s tank.
Bro I'm pretty positive they have the exact same tank size I own the rebel 500
Think I will get. Looks what I’m looking for. And starting.
Looking for a beginner bike. This might be iy
Honda Rebel 500 vs Harley Davidson Street 500 shootout please.
