If you do a build like this, you need to ensure one of those four memory modules is added to each channel. Otherwise, you will not have a quad-channel configuration and will lose 25% to 35% performance, especially in memory-intensive applications. Check the case cover or HP support documentation for the correct memory order. This applies to all systems with dual, triple, or quad-channel memory. The correct placement of modules is essential to obtaining maximum performance. Also, keep memory sizes the same, the extra calculations required by the CPU due to the different sizes will decrease performance.

I have an AMD MSI 480 rx, which 480s are known for high temperatures. Any likelihood a GPU waterblock with radiator tutorial is possible? Supposedly a GPU waterblock can decrease the card temperature 10~20 Celsius degrees. I know a 480 is old, but this could apply to contemporary cards as well. Near as I can tell you get a g12 Nzxt card adapter and an AIO enclosed loop system with the 120mm fan radiator and replace the back fan with the radiator. Problem is I believe the back fan on case is 80mm, so there might be a compatibility problem. There are 80mm water cooled radiators, so it's not impossible just not certain the cooling would be sufficient.
Liquid coolers can be very effective for cooling. However, there just isn't enough space in the Z440 chassis to mount the aftermarket liquid coolers. Some of our community members have successfully swapped there Z420/Z440 components to ATX cases, which has allowed them to install aftermarket cooling. That might be something you could consider.
I have this z440 with xeon E5 1650 v3, 32gb ecc ddr4 memory, msi rx580, intel 600gb ssd and I'm pretty happy with the performance. But imo the chasis has so little airflow for these power hungry components. Do you think this mb would fit in another chasis?
Mine came with the "optional" case fan, which sits low and in the front of the case, where that little speaker is. Do have that one ? If not, maybe getting one would help.

Hi dude, nice video. Im waiting for my Z440 to arrive this week. Im planning on using an unused GTX 1060 6Gb and 1 Samsung nvme as main OS Drive. Looking around internet i saw there is a Single HP NVME card, a Quad Pro Card and a Dual Pro Card (4YF59AA) this has a reasonable price arround $100. The thing is i havent found any info about compatibility with Z440 WS. Only on new Z Series. Have you ever tested? This would be great to have 1 card with Dual NVME Drive and not pay for the Premiun and Overkill price of a Quad PRo Card. Thanks.
Thank you for the kind words. We have tested the HP certified adapters. They work well, but they are expensive. If you only plan to use one m.2 ssd you should order the siig card that we posted on our Z440 Hardware upgrade guide. (The link is in the descriptions). It’s under $20. Let us know if you have any other questions.
Hi Brother. Thanks again for video on how to change CPU on Z440. I was able to do it with no issues. Now I need your help with replacing psu as I purchased a RTX 3080 and power supply recommendation for that card is 750W and I currently have 700W. I was looking online but I though it was better to ask someone with a lot of knowledge with Z440s. Any recommendations will be greatly appreciated .
Try rolling with the 700w psu. If you end up having intermittent shutdowns you could always upgrade to a higher wattage or more efficient atx power supply. Also, make sure you have the io cooling fan installed.
Hello, thanks for the video, i have z440 workstation machine in work, it was working just fine for ages, but yesterday i just failed to open as usual, when you press the power button, everything seems working like fans and so on and the led is a stable white, but there is nothing displayed on the monitor at all, also no power to keyboard or mouse, I guess the term is "no POST", so my question, what could be wrong with the machine? Does removing the cmos battery help in that situation?
Try removing any add on cards/usb devices that aren't crucial to it's base operation. Also, decrement the memory down to 1 stick. See if that allows to you get video.
@@GreenPCGamerscom i spent 8 hours configuring what was wrong, no progress, then i followed a tutorial on how to flash a new bios via usb after resetting the cmos by changing the jumper on the motherboard, it finally worked after that, but the cpu fan is now so slow, maybe it needs another bios setting afterall Thanks for your reply

Not sure how you got the graphics card in without running into the issue of not being able to close the side panel. I have an EVGA RTX 2060 that I'm using for distributed computing instead of gaming and because of that stupid ridge/hump they put on the side panel I cannot get it closed which is extremely infuriating. It has a rubber pad/insulator so I assume it's for vibration but that should've never been on there from the factory. These are workstations, not regular desktops, so the focus should be on compatibility rather than noise first. Looks like I'm gonna have to take an angle grinder or dremel to it to get the stupid ridge removed. Arrrrrgh.
I just installed an intel 2tb nvme m.2 in the second pcie x16 slot and made it the new boot drive (using the HP trubo G2 adapter). I'm getting 3466 Read and 3034 Write. Though for some reason it feels slower than the old 512gb sata SSD.
@@GreenPCGamerscom Just kind of overall. Seems to load windows a little slower also though it could be my imagination since the bench marks look good. Sata SSD was getting 540 read vs 3466 on the nvme.
I hope I'm going to get a reply... I've recently been gifted a Z400 which I want to make into a gaming pc for my nephew, but the problem is that the system won't accept any other videocard other than the NVS 810 the system came with. When I install an AMD RX580 and connect it all I get 6 beeps which indicates a problem with the graphics. System is completely up-to-date with latest available BIOS. I've read that maybe HP has power limited the system, but then why does it have the auxiliary connectors for a graphics card? Doesn't make sense... what do I have to set to make it accept the videocard.
How about using only 1 sata power to 6 pin Then the sata 6 pin coupled with a native 6 pin to make a 8 pin That would be better then just an single 6 to 8 pin adapter
On this workstation the wire gauge and the connections for the 6pin plugs is sufficient for a 6to8 pin adapter (as there is an official HP adapter for 8pin graphics Cards)
But too use the card for video rendering and editing the second option will work? I just got a z440 and a quadto m5000 but premiere pro greys out GPU acceratoin so I got this card but 11g. I have a sdd in the drive bay and another had for media etc. I also purchased a 12 core xeron for it too.

cool clips man. i am stuck on a z440 thinking of those V4s. YEAH BABY. by the way, you can have a xeon v4 in a Z440 without worries, unlike the Z420 where the MoBo PN restricted you to a v1. right?
We haven’t seen any limitations with the Z440 V3/V4 processors. The bios update is important prior to upgrading your cpu to insure you have the latest micro codes.
Hey, old video I realize but...do you know if they make some kind of bracket or adapter that will allow you to use a standard ATX power supply in a Z440 case? Not the wiring - there are adapter harnesses all over the place - but how does one actually mount a standard ATX power supply...?
Could a V4 processor be downgraded to a V3 Processor. Mine originally came with an E5-1620 V4 Quad-Core and would like a 6 or 8 core in my system. The reason I am asking is V3 CPU's are much less expensive and plentiful.
I know this is an old video, but I had a question. Is there a way to upgrade to PSU on this, past the 700w OEM unit? I see there are two separate connections on the motherboard from the PSU. One 18 pin and one 12 pin for CPU MEM PWR. I have one adapter for the 24 pin to 18 pin main board power. What about the 12 pin connector? Is there an adapter for this from a standard ATX PSU? Thank you for the help.
dear, In option #1: at 9th minutes. Can I use 1x 6 pin Female to 1x 8 pin Male & 2x Sata Pwr to 1x 6 pin Male? How many watts can the psu 700W supply in this case?
That Titan Z requires 2 x 8 pin. The minimum power supply requirement is 700w. You’ll either have to get creative with power adapters or upgrade to an atx power supply that can supply 2 x 8 pin power for the graphics card.
I have one of these that suddenly started getting a POST error that says "Thermal Sensor not programmed". It's maddening because HP can't tell me what to replace and it causes all fans to run at 100%. Anyone have an idea how to fix this? Does it require a motherboard replacement?
I know this is an old video but I'm hoping you can help me. If I run an RTX 3060 in a z440's top PCI-E x16 slot (using a dual 6 pin to 8 pin adapter), would I be able to install a Quad M.2 to PCI-E adapter in the second x16 slot and still have good performance on both x16 slots?
You'll see some pretty strong bottle-necking in the Z440 if you install an RTX 2080Ti. Consider using an RTX 2070 Super or RTX 2080 Super. They are cheaper, draw less power, and will have less bottle-necking in your Z440. Also, consider using EVGA Cards. Thanks for commenting!

I would like to use "option 1" on running power cables, specifically using the 2 male 6 pin connectors and adapting to an 8 pin to plug into the GPU. Would it be okay to use a splitter (dual 6 pin male to single 6 pin female) so I can still power the fan, while also using two 6 pins to adapt to the 8 pin GPU power cable?
Does it get hot? Or are you just concerned?
PS. I know it's been a year for you, but my journey is just starting (got one 440 yesterday)

@@GreenPCGamerscom i spent 8 hours configuring what was wrong, no progress, then i followed a tutorial on how to flash a new bios via usb after resetting the cmos by changing the jumper on the motherboard, it finally worked after that, but the cpu fan is now so slow, maybe it needs another bios setting afterall
Thanks for your reply
Hey Z440 users, I am planning to buy this Z440 machine with 1650 v4. I am skeptical about the two things:
1) Is it safe to use dual-6-pin to single-8-pin connector to power the gpu. (I am planning to pair rather rx 580 or 1660 super)
2) Second, do I need to bypass any boot loading method for a nvme m.2 ssd or will it run naturally as plug and play.
Please someone guide me with this.
1. yes you can use dual 6 pin to 8 pin adapter you can even use single 6 pin to 8 pin adapter however i will not recommend to use anything above 1660 super or maybe 2060 but with dual 6 pin to 8 pin you can even use a 3060 ti or 6600/6700xt etc
@@Nigg-vu8uc thank you! What about the second one?
@@wasifshabbir2432 actually i looked a little more into it and it turns out unlike conventional atx if you have hp 700w psu each of your 6 pin connector can provide 260w so you can also use single 6 pin to 8 pin
Just added a Gigabyte GTX 1660 Super 6GB works fine. For those maybe looking.
TIP: You can do the Xeon E5 V3 turbo boost unlock on this system too. Its not the easiest but I have done it and my E5 2640 V3 now runs at 3.4Ghz
Oh? do you have a link to instructions? I have a Z440 with the 2680 v3 on the way and was wondering if the Boost Unlock was possible
The Ukrainian PC community seems to have figured it out like I said but there isn't that much information in English. The people on the thread I mentioned though speak do speek though English so you can ask them questions.
What is a turbo boost unlock? Isn't turbo boost enabled by default in the bios or am I misunderstanding you?
Arrrrrgh.
Please i need link for 6 to 8 pin
can we get an update on how this has worked out long term?
I just installed an intel 2tb nvme m.2 in the second pcie x16 slot and made it the new boot drive (using the HP trubo G2 adapter). I'm getting 3466 Read and 3034 Write. Though for some reason it feels slower than the old 512gb sata SSD.
Those speeds are pretty good. Are certain programs slower?
@@GreenPCGamerscom Just kind of overall. Seems to load windows a little slower also though it could be my imagination since the bench marks look good. Sata SSD was getting 540 read vs 3466 on the nvme.
Is 7 Pro the optimal windows O.S. for this?
I hope I'm going to get a reply... I've recently been gifted a Z400 which I want to make into a gaming pc for my nephew, but the problem is that the system won't accept any other videocard other than the NVS 810 the system came with. When I install an AMD RX580 and connect it all I get 6 beeps which indicates a problem with the graphics. System is completely up-to-date with latest available BIOS. I've read that maybe HP has power limited the system, but then why does it have the auxiliary connectors for a graphics card? Doesn't make sense... what do I have to set to make it accept the videocard.
Something wrong with your rx 580, i used to use a z400 with 1660 untill i got a z440
How about using only 1 sata power to 6 pin
Then the sata 6 pin coupled with a native 6 pin to make a 8 pin
That would be better then just an single 6 to 8 pin adapter
On this workstation the wire gauge and the connections for the 6pin plugs is sufficient for a 6to8 pin adapter (as there is an official HP adapter for 8pin graphics Cards)
Firmware ok for HP Z440 and more, on HP webside : 2022...!
But too use the card for video rendering and editing the second option will work? I just got a z440 and a quadto m5000 but premiere pro greys out GPU acceratoin so I got this card but 11g. I have a sdd in the drive bay and another had for media etc. I also purchased a 12 core xeron for it too.

In option #1: at 9th minutes. Can I use 1x 6 pin Female to 1x 8 pin Male & 2x Sata Pwr to 1x 6 pin Male? How many watts can the psu 700W supply in this case?
1x6pin Female to 1x8 pin Power: 75W
Sata power to 1x6 pin Male: 75W
PCI-E : 75W
Total: 225W
But GTX 1080Ti need 180W
It is ok?
After about 20 hours of testing it seems to work fine.
We are not 100% sure on the actual watts with this configuration.
dear,
If you have Titan Z: 250W, How can be connected ?
That Titan Z requires 2 x 8 pin. The minimum power supply requirement is 700w. You’ll either have to get creative with power adapters or upgrade to an atx power supply that can supply 2 x 8 pin power for the graphics card.
I have one of these that suddenly started getting a POST error that says "Thermal Sensor not programmed". It's maddening because HP can't tell me what to replace and it causes all fans to run at 100%. Anyone have an idea how to fix this? Does it require a motherboard replacement?
Did you take the side panel off? If so, try disabling the intrusion feature in the bios.

Hey guys! I'm wanting to replace my Quadro M4000 GPU with another GPU...likely a GTX 1080 TI but am running into an issue with power. I would like to use "option 1" on running power cables, specifically using the 2 male 6 pin connectors and adapting to an 8 pin to plug into the GPU. After digging into the PC, the M4000 is using one of the 6 pin connectors while the 2nd 6 pin is powering the GPU supplementary fan. Would it be okay to use a splitter (dual 6 pin male to single 6 pin female) so I can still power the fan, while also using two 6 pins to adapt to the 8 pin GPU power cable? Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
