TERMINATOR GENYSIS SYNOPSIS
When John Connor (Jason Clarke), leader of the human resistance against Skynet, sends Kyle Reese (Jai Courtney) back to 1984 to protect his mother, Sarah (Emilia Clarke), from a Terminator assassin, an unexpected turn of events creates an altered timeline. Instead of a scared waitress, Sarah is a skilled fighter and has a Terminator guardian (Arnold Schwarzenegger) by her side. Faced with unlikely allies and dangerous new enemies, Reese sets out on an unexpected new mission: reset the future.

Emilia Clarke deserved better.
Fun Fact: She was _so ashamed_ of this film that she would go on to say that she would never play the role of Sarah Connor ever again.
Even if the script was better, she was terrible for the role.

I dont think shes a particular good actress at all, everyone gushes over her because of game of thrones,but the writing is what elevated that, aside from dinklage and a few others the actors were pretty bad in GOT. Also look at that godawful looking christmas dramedy shes about to come out with, it looks HORRID

Hey Sean. I enjoy your videos. This Terminator movie was....... ok. It was kind of all over the place. But there were some exciting parts. Especially at the beginning where we see a CGI 1984 Arnold Schwarzenegger Terminator fighting a Present Terminator. That part was pretty cool. 😊
Genisys could’ve been one of the best terminator movies if it didn’t make John Connor the villain instead saving it as a twist that he was playing along and sacrifices himself against Skynet, Different actors for Kyle and Sarah even John, and more emphasis on who sent Pops back in time as a guardian. And time travel was overused.
Positives are mainly about Arny returning and his big worded pronunciations like Cellulah level. The T-1000 twist was pretty cool, but ultimately die hard fans of the first Terminator would hate this movie just because of how much it nerfed the Original Terminator, and the acting being very awkward in some of not most spots.
Or don’t spoil it!
metalman5 haha yeah that too, even if the John Connor Nano-3000 twist wasn’t spoiled, not a lot of fans would warm up to the idea of the Resistances leader turning so quickly into a villain.
Could have had Matt Smith be the villain that John was, not just Skynet’s avatar. That could be interesting.
This Terminator film does not stand up the Terminator or Terminator two: judgment day. That being said, upon looking at it, it’s actually not that bad if you don’t judge it against the other films. It at least makes an attempt to write its own history.

I actually really enjoyed Terminator Genisys. It’s most rewatchable for me in the series (probably right next to T2) in my opinion. But I can’t wait for your Dark Fate review!
Listen, everyone has an opinion but how is it more rewatchable than T1, T3 or Salvation? Exactly how?
Boris Godzinevski it’s just more entertaining in my opinion. The first one is great and one of my favorite movies of all time. It’s like Logan, a great movie but I can’t watch it all the time.

Boris Godzinevski ya. My main problems with this movie are the casting choices and the plot. I dislike the Kyle Reese and Sarah Connor in it. They are annoying and very immature. The plot is just weird and doesn’t make much sense
Sebastian Stan would of made a good Kyle Reese IMO...
I actually liked Genisys quite a bit. It was a clever way to restart the franchise, and I genuinely preferred it over T3 and Salvation. The idea that the whole timeline was reset was cool
As someone who never saw the trailer or even saw the poster properly, I can confirm that the twist did shock me. It was a pretty bold decision to make John Connor the villian, though not a very good one. I still like this film despite the flaws, probably because I never took it too seriously. It's a fun "what if" tale. Great review as always Sean, excited to see your opinions on dark fate.

You don’t! It’s equivalent to RoboCop (2014) also being rated PG-13!

i dont think it deserved the critical thrashing it got, it had its problems for sure. Arnold was been very vocal about how he wasent happy with the cut of the film and that the studio cut out alot of stuff that would of made it a bettter film, walking out of the theaters opening night i was super freaking pumped about a sequel and to see how they used arnolds "Upgrade", which i think could still be a amazing plot point
I just watched this one for the first time it’s decent enough I actually enjoyed it a bit better than Salvation

Just finished watching terminator dark fate as it is out in england and it’s probably one of the best ones since terminator 2 plus very good performances throughout
I really feel like the reason why the terminator movies after judgement day are hated on so much is because judgement day was so good. If it wasn’t a cinema ground breaking monster then a lot of people may enjoy the later films

I felt like this was an okay movie and the old t-800 vs new t-800 was so sick

I will be the first to admit this is a BAD movie and would never recommend it to anyone! However I can't help but find myself enjoying this movie! Total guilty pleasure!

I would have liked if Jason Clarke’s John personality was like Michael Biehn’s (I know, I can’t spell it) personality.
Terminator Genisys is not the best film of the series. But I do enjoy the film immensely. I love the opening, the action with Arnold, and most of all the score by Lorne Balfe.
I really enjoyed Terminator Genysis. Daenerys plays the best Sarah Conner, T 800 was amazing, and I just loved how Arnie raised Sarah as his own. Truly my top favorite next with Dark Fate.

Genisys is not awful just not particularly good either. The same for all the sequels except from Dark Fate which is OK. Its easily the best Terminator film since T2, which isn't saying much.
Dark Fate is easily the most enjoyable one of the sequels
Oh, man. Was hoping you’d mention putting on the Nike’s in the department store scene. Got the biggest kick outta that oddly. Genisys has cool stuff for the hardcores despite its plot flaws. Not bad.
Actually liked this film as a popcorn movie. Don`t consider it canon but has some great action. There will never be another Terminator or T2.

You call T3 through Genesis Taco Bell fan fiction Terminator films. I call them blockbusters that just so happen to take place in the Terminator universe. And as that, I enjoy them. Including this film.
I really liked Genisys but preferred Dark Fate as it had that T2 feel to it.
I watched it on bluray not that long ago and found it somewhat entertaining. I can remember virtually nothing about it. That says a lot from my perspective. The new one doesn't look worth the $ to go to the cinema. Maybe i will watch eventually on netflix or bargain bin home video
Sean, you forgot to mention this was directed by Alan Taylor, the guy who made Thor 2 (the most forgettable MCU film) and Beyond the Wall (the first illogical episode of GoT). And some episodes of The Sopranos, which I haven't seen. So this guy just can't direct well.
It has some entertaining moments but they choose the wrong cast.
Jai Courtney as Kyle Rees was wrong, Jason Clarke as John Conner was wrong, Emilia Clarke as Sarah Connor was wrong, Byung-hun Lee as the T1000 ( In T2 played by Robert Patrick) was wrong. The story wasn't that bad and the action was nice. But because of the wrong cast i didn't like the movie as much as i should be. Still better then Rise of the Machines. Old... but not obsolete. 😊

When I watched Genisys on Hulu, I always thought that the Terminator copied the image of John Conor after the machines killed John.
I liked Genisys, because I thought it was a great way to end the series and I always wanted Sarah and Kyle to be together.
In Terminator, the first one, I did not like it when Kyle was killed off.
None of us liked that Kyle died in the first one, but Michael Biehn (I’m sure I misspelled that) was also kind of the Sean Bean of 1980s movies (character constantly died).
Quite frankly I rather watch a movie with Arnold raising Sarah & her teaching him how to be more human.
Great review...agree with all your comments, like how John Connor could go back in time after his existence was erased by the changes to the timeline. Nevertheless, decent enough movie.

Loved Emilia's chemistry with Arnold but Jai was not rightly cast as Kyle it was said there was an actor who did look a little like Michael but they cast Jai instead. J.K. Simmons was really great I keep expecting him to break character & go "PARKER?" And speaking of John Conner being the bad guy why not make him the bad guy by having him causing the war to happen. After T2 he & his mom have to go on the run because of the events in T2 it's years later & John is living off the grid but he's a criminal things have become strained between him & Sarah. He stopped Judgment Day but his destiny has been destroyed he no longer has a purpose all the combat training he had been taught is obsolete. John is angry, frustrated & lost he wants a purpose so he decides to cause the future war so he can be the savior he was told he was to become in the end he regrets what he did & decides to redeem himself.
Or the movie takes place after Salvation John's life is saved when Marcus gives him his heart but over time the nanos in John's heart is slowly changing him John becomes more machine than man. But he continues to lead the resistance but he is helping Skynet become more powerful no one notices his change in behavior except for his wife Kate Beruster. She convinces Clare that John is acting a little weird they investigate & see that John is becoming the bad guy they try to stop him Clare is killed Kate is the only one standing she begs John to come back to her but John Conner no longer exists. He prepares to kill his own wife both have their guns trained on each other a shot rings out Kate sees John fall to the ground he's dead but who fired the shot? She knew it wasn't her she didn't want to shoot John. She looks up & to her shock the shot was fired by Marcus turns out he had a second heart but in him or another power booster built in him he had been following the resistance & also noticed John's behavior. Kate's happy to see Marcus the two try to decide what to do afterward Kate points out the resistance can't know John has become a terminator that their last hope for humanity had turned to the dark side. Otherwise the resistance will fall into chaos & the human race will wipe each other out in the end it's decided that Marcus will have John's face surgically attached to his face & he will become John Conner the resistance doesn't have to know what happened to the real John Conner.

Jai Courtney as Klyle Reese really pissed me off. I thought that was a betrayal to the character, especially having the up to date dialogue "As if?". Kyle Reese would never say that line.

This one I think was the worst one with Arnold I just could not deal with CGing arnold action scenes instead of the wire work he did in Terminator 2 and 3.

Hello Sean. I dislike it and haven’t seen the film. But do not hate it. I know what it is about. I adore t1 and t2 and I enjoyed dark fate. Mixed on some aspects. Easily third best.

I'm actually really surprised at the number of positive opinions on this movie. I think it was absolute trash and nothing about it worked. I rented it from Redbox, so I hardly spent any money to see it, and I still hated it.
This is not a great movie. All the sequels are irrelevant after T2. I do enjoy the movie though. I actually think that this was criticised very harshly and Jurassic World received more praise than it should have. I don’t hate either movie but I think Jurassic World has big flaws that were overlooked and Terminator Genisys got hammered by everyone. Despite all the flaws this movie has I would have liked to see the trilogy they planned because I think there was potential to build off of this movie.
I personally thought this movie was okay at best was good as the first two nope but that's basically impossible but you know what it was a fun movie to watch not all horrible but mediocre at best.

I want you to know that terminator genesis is just the retelling of the first Terminator film and with the terminator dark fate is just retelling of what would have happened if they succeeded to stop Skynet a legion and Genesis so we do have an answer so far of how John Connor has two daughters Danny Ramos and Grace Connor if you watch the films in in the direct order by the first of them all down to the final one that we have so far I will give you this as a spoiler
First of all you have to understand Sean that these movies is just playing movies but what is the first film is just shows Kyle Reese just showing up with the terminator genesis shows how he showed up In the year of 1984 so I do that twice with the first Terminator and And terminator genesis Just something to help you out

Terminator Genisys wasn’t a great film. But it gets way too much hate for what it is. I think Terminator Salvation is the worst one.

Callum Corcoran I can understand how a lot may enjoy Salvation more. But I was expecting a lot more from salvation than what I got. It just felt boring to me

Weakest movie of the entire series. Some stuff was good but new kyle reese looked or acted nothing like the original one. John connor should have never been made into a bad guy. The last 4 movies you rooted for him and then he randomly turned into enemy. Kinda ruined the movie for me.
