People commenting about the 3 monsters on the bridge clip saying it's the same monster are imo just trying to be smart arses but am going to bite and enlighten them. You are totally not getting the obvious which I mention clearly, how the hell can you miss it? The third enemy on the bridge jumped me on my first run, the second one jumped me in the stream, it's on the screen how can you not get that? Do you actually think when playing I make a mental note of the actual skin monsters are wearing? I don't remember what they looked like, I just remembered shooting the first 2 and nothing happened but the third one jumped me. So in the stream I see the bridge, 3 dead monsters and I suddenly remember that the third one jumped me....simple as that :p
stomp on every kill its simple as that.

People don't understand us Mack. We weren't born spoiled, we remember a time when gaming like this wasn't even dreamed about yet. Gaming for us is really a treat. We might not be able to run with the best of the best of these nerds but we've seen what has been made - and we see the VALUE in games... we know what's bad and what's unacceptable from the scammers that pose as developers. Cheers Mack - let the nerds nerd they can't say anything to a legend anyway.
@@LoneBerseker Really dude? You're making a game and you dont know how to get in touch with him? I found that out in 3 seconds. If that's the case you don't really need him to review it.
6:21 "suddenly, monsters just walk around the corner towards you" is much scarier than having a cutscene announce their arrival with a closeup shot
New game would have an immersion dlc
mac made a bit of a mistake.. both times at the start its the same monster that gets up but 2nd time theres a 3rd body which mac confused with the the monster from the first time
Yeah been saying this for years in reviews, cut scenes take all the fear and immersion out of a situation.
@@WorthABuyreviews yuuup, but will they listen? :P
@@bobecks66 They won't listen so long as sheep keep pre-ordering hyped up garbage, throwing their money at them and asking for more abominations like Forspoken. You would be amazed how many people are defending that game despite it being the epitome of everything wrong with the gaming industry today. This Dead Space remake and Elden Ring show at least a glimmer of hope in the AAA gaming industry. Though obviously this is not really a new game at all.
The thing about the graphics is... this is what I remember the original looking like back in 2008 lol.

I had such a good laugh from the stream at one point when Mack already knows a guy is going to pop out of a vent or something and starts gloating about it, then hears something behind him, turns and another guy is right in his face. He had to take a breather after that scare, and so did I from laughing.
To open a door in the game, i had to choose between keeping the lights on or having actual oxygen. I chose to keep the lights on… 10/10

I'm glad you mentioned the price. $89.95 AUD here for a game that I already completed many years ago is too much to justify, even if it does look good.
Way too high so I just bought a key from a dodgy website. Priced themselves out of getting money by being greedy imo
Why did they remove stache guy and replaced him with black chick?
Shhhh you’re not supposed to notice! If you notice you’re a racist dontchyaknow
They removed an unimportant character and added another, unimportant character with a couple of lines. It's not that deep.

I honestly thought this was gonna be about $40. I was as shocked as Mack @2:26 when I found out the price was $80 DOLLARS!!! WTF?? I'll be waiting for a price drop, despite how great it is.
meanwhile I'm like, welp I'm buying just to support it...
Mack's gripe about the price was a bit of a shock, but that's greedy publishers for you. I mean, it should have and could have been the change that the games industry needs at the moment, where games go back to being the same price as they were many years back. I mean, the games of yesteryear are better and they cost less, especially on PC.
Also, if you have the original Dead Space on disc or steam etc, it would have been a lovely gesture if you were able to get a huge discount for this new one. A thank you to the fans, you know... But nope. EA will be EA 😕🙄
@@gamerdweebentertainment1616 Good for you. I "supported" the game when I bought the original release. Did not even get a discount for getting the remake. That's how much your support is worth
$80? I can find steam keys for $50.
@@Johny40Se7en It's only on Origin? Well shit. Games are overall expensive to make, I'm more like finally a proper game, no bs microtransactios, battlepases etc and somewhat honest price. About time. Shame I live in EU though, where 80€ hurts more to wallet than in US, I think. Well the pricing is all another debate and irreversable anyways.
What makes these games so good isn't the graphics or FX, which wasn't necessary for the original game.. it's the art direction, story-telling, and all that background stuff that goes into the game..

We’re deep in the era of remakes. It’ll be interesting to see how the resident evil 4 remake compares to this .
Ea has quality control with most older ips while Capcom has shown they don't give a fuck and they're just doing it for the money.
RE2 was good but they cut corners. RE3 remake was all cut corners..really disappointed
@TheGoodSenator did u just say EA has quality control?????? Holy hell that's dumb. Capcom cut some content but they are a superior developer in every way. I like the remake so far but re4r is going to murder this
@Shima S they were also doing a hell of allot more work than ea was. Compare the originals to the remakes and then tell me with a straight face that dead space is more impressive and took more time
Nah, I'm holding out for the remake of the remake of RE4.
The recent remakes of games like Doom and Wolfenstein - now Dead Space - really Nail (gunned) it. Waiting for F.E.A.R.
Lol love the "itsa puppet" reference, reminds me of when tv was worth watching.
Wish they had a first person view option for this remake. Would make a great vr game
Maybe the guy who VR mods the Resident Evil Remakes will give it a shot. But i fully agree, not adding a First Person Mode in this remake is utterly stupid! Specially with that price tag, and VR actually being a thing these days!
This would be crazy in VR
I'm sure there will be a mod for that soon enough..
@@daktaklakpak5059 if someone mods it they also need to create and mod in a HUD. This was one of the only games that did the minimal HUD trent right.

For those who haven't experienced it,it is not. That is the market they are aiming at.

So Mack played the original and didn't like it, played the remake, liked it but doesn't think it is worth the price because the original he didn't like is available?
Just buy the original and download an fov fix.

And somehow they messed up the contrast, turning characters brown that werent before..
Really wished you streamed the whole game Mack, stream was hilarious.
It was fun, he was shitting himself haha.
2:55 thats not all. They also race swapped Kyne, race swapped those in the posters, made Kendra a lesbian, Nicole is now a Unitologist, "F*ck this ship, it's a sh*tty capitalist organization" is written on some of the walls, and changed the restrooms to all gender restrooms.
11:36 no it's not. The Resident Evil 1 remake is how you should remake a game. Strange how everyone forgets this.
Sad to see Mack not mention this utter trash
You're joking?
I refunded because of this. Can’t stand woke garbage.
The marker makes people turn into radical woke leftists. The monster part is only the first phase.
lets not forget: uglifying female characters and replacing dynamically generate cutscenes that play out without taking control from the player (way more scary then when you can put away the controller) with normal cutscenes
>They're remaking all these games because they can't make new ones.
That's only half of it. They're also remaking them to make them more in line with modern propaganda and "diversity" ideals. Same thing they do with every single movie they "reboot".
If you disagree, you're objectively wrong.
dear god they added a unisex bathroom what has gaming and society come to >:(
@Stormer248 and Mack didn't mention any of this. People go to him because he's not afraid and a truth-teller. I guess we overestimated Mack.
@Stormer248 Fair enough. You are probably right and he is just oblivious.
@Stormer248 The graffiti was in the original game as well. But of course G*mers will complain about everything being "woke" these days.
Gaming was still in a good place in 2008. It started to go wrong from around 2010 onwards for me.
I agree. Seems like greed started overshadowing innovation around that time
One of my favorite games series of all time and I had to pick and choose when I’d play it. I’d feel so drained after all the white-knuckling the entire game. 10/10 recommend.
One of the best games of its time. Still holds up great now, I played the old one a year or so ago when nothing else was grabbing me at the time.
As a software developer myself, I don't agree that the price is high, given the fact the game provides high quality, which is what we are paying for. Developing a quality software (or game) takes a huge amount of time and effort, so I am happy to reward the developers when the game delivers what it promised and they did a great job on that.
It doesn't provide enough quality to warrant being more expensive than original. Witcher 3 got free update that did basically the same thing as that 'remake' did not long ago.
Plenty of high quality games priced cheaper than this. They're crying about increasing costs of development why showing record profits. As a software developer, you don't get profit sharing so I would rethink your stance.
Hearing Mack poop himself is glorious! Thank you, Mack. 🤣
AAA companies can make good games, the real problem is lack of creativity. 10-20 years ago, they had to actually make quality games to get video games recognised as a true form of art. Now they’ve just gotten lazy. Every once in a while you get a great, original game but few and far between.
Goes for Movies, music and other forms of entertainment. So that’s why we get so many remakes and re-releases. Lost count of how many LOTR’s movies I have on every sort of disc!
Done to this quality though and old enough to merit a remake, then I will never say no to a remake like this, but price tag is bit high. Then again some team had to create this and put hard work into it and made it look gorgeous, so why not charge full price for a “new” game? Just playing devils advocate though, price is still too high
And to anyone reading this right at the very bottom of the wall of text… thank you mo chara :)
OG Johnston actually had a speaking part 1-2 times. His obvious speaking part is when you enable the damage report right before the attack.
We know why he got removed..
For console players I recommend DS2 control layout. Use L1 for sprint. Turn on hold to sprint. It's a lot easier to sprint in all directions that way. Imo L1 should be the standard sprint button. Not L3.
Your right about the atmosphere Mack. I actually don't even run most of the time. I love just walking and soaking in my surroundings.
The scare at 2:24 LOOOOL
The panic translated to the mouse cursos was hilarious. Been there done that.
3080 ti, 5900x. Has a good few fast framedrops, 60-80 fps for the most part on 1440p no dlss. The dlss seems to really smoothens the character details for me and nothing much else seems affected so i play without it.
Just a quick comment about the general performance for anyone with similar specs.
Edit: This is on ultra settings
Is that supposed to be good? That’s downright horrendous. For the specs you just listed I would’ve expected 130 average. I’m happy I’m staying at 1080p since I see 120 minimum in most games. I will switch when 1440p becomes the new 1080
@Luke never said it was good, im not really happy with it either. 4k is out of the question, the game feels is very poorly optimised. I was just describing the performance i get with my specs.
@@lukeX2m 60-80 fps on a 120hz monitor is more then good enough, it is perfect.
In fact you would not notice the difference between 50 fps(on 100 hz) and 60 fps (on 120Hz) even if you compare the 2 next to each other.
Your eye cannot keep up with 50 frames per second since it is smooth as it can be.
Fact, your eye corrects the difference if there are any at that speed.
what usually happens is that you see lag and blurring and you think you can solve the issue by increasing fps.
Sometimes it helps sometimes it simply fails.
It all has to do with making sure your hardware is working in sync.
Don't expect to have a 120 fps on a 60 hrz monitor and not see lag.
Keep the number 1 rule of 2+HZ per frame, and 50 fps locked is no different than more fps.
BTW the only reason to go on a 1440p is if you are using a 32" monitor, lower than that 1080p is equally good.
Even so, you will struggle to see the difference unless you stick your nose to the monitor since even a 32" cannot use well the real detail advantage of the 1440p.
@@jeffvella9765 tell that to people wit there 300hz refresh rate that cant play at 60fps.. lol i personly find it laughable.. anything over 60 is a + but its not game breaking so 4k 60 is fine.

I have a 3080 and i7 10700 cpu play at 2k ultra settings dlss on quality mode and it’s on average sitting at 100fps lowest I’ve seen is 80 to 85 and I’m on chapter 5 now I’m not at all disappointed with performance this is a game made for current gen hardware I.e ps5 Xbox series x and pc so it’s going to push modern hardware pretty well I mean it does look incredible you don’t get those sorts of graphics without it putting some strain on high end graphics cards
Just finished it the other day, fantastic game and remake. I wonder if they’ll do 2 next in the same style as this one. Keeping it as faithful as possible, whilst updating the more dated aspects and then….hopefully they can do a full redo from top to bottom of 3 and bring it more inline with the first 2.
08:12 it is written in Norwegian under the main text: "and if you fucking zombies have learnt to read, go to hell you too!"
As someone who, for whatever reason, never played the OG, I’m stoked to give this a shot.
It’s always good to have tight linear experience. I’m fucking tired of boring open world checklist games.
100% agree with this. Sometimes open worlds are just pointless. Give us good gameplay and great levels and im happy with linear gameplay
Another excellent review Mack.
I love horror and missed this the first time round. Good to see you mention the price, I’ve watched a couple of other reviews and no one seems to mention how expensive this is. Thanks for highlighting that.
You’ve convinced me I want to play this, but I will wait until it’s at least 20 quid cheaper.
Mack, this is one of those games I played a ton. New Game Plus as well. One of my favorite achievements was playing it on hard in one sitting without dying lol. I'm glad to shell out money for a proper remake since games nowadays are mostly rubbish. Glad you enjoyed it
£50 sounds a lot but when I was at secondary school during the 80's and early 90's, PC games cost £40 (I remember paying that for the first Tomb Raider and Monkey Island). That's around £78 in today's money, so £50 is reasonable given that high street retail costs are a thing of the past.
This game was remade from the ground up. Its not just a polish and resolution upgrade. They added sections, redesigned the map, added layers to all the enemies, the list goes on and on. This game is 100% worth full price. IMO.
Good things come to those who wait, the price tag is ridiculous, but the game has landed on gamepass few weeks ago, playing it now, good fun.
2:21 it's the same one that gets up but the 3rd body is missing in the first recording.
My one problem with these is the same problem I have with Hollywood. REMAKES REMAKES REMAKES - while I get it there are some differences... it's still the same shit just repurposed again

Has the envelope moved so far to the left that people ignore the all gendered bathrooms, making characters gay out of nowhere, race swaping others? They even added diversity in-universe ads to replace the old ones because i guess they were problematic. They also took out developer memorials and replaced them with diversity npc number 15567 because they could. Not to mention all the little changes they did to events so the diverse crew members dont die.
Look, i know people are gonna say im nitpicking but remember how many times the slippery slope has come true? This game is evidence that this slippery slope is on full tilt. And when people notice its going to be too late.
It's already too late. The last 5 years has been evidence to it. Just keep voting with your wallet and support indie.
I was super excited for this to come out but I can’t ignore this disturbing subliminal messaging no matter how aesthetically pleasing the game is. Such a shame that I can’t escape from the ‘agenda’.

At least EA isn't doing what companies like Rockstar are doing with GTA remakes: removing the originals from sale, outsourcing the remake to some mobile phone company, get hammered by the media for a shitty remake, then release the original games as DLC for the remake at a jacked up price...
Now I need to go back and see what Mack said about The Last of Us re-remake (for 70)...

1080p and DLSS balanced means you're upscaling from like 720p if not lower. So you shouldn't use that as a basis for if the game runs well. I mean DLSS at 1080p in general is kinda meh. But if you're going to use it quality is almost a must at that low of a resolution.
The gold standard should be to test the game in 1080p native as thats what most people will use.
Interesting, but there are games from this time that needed a remake more than this did. DS1 aged pretty well
It's a bit of a pain to play nowadays tbf. No port to modern console platforms, and the PC version is riddled with control issues. Those control issues are all _mostly_ fixable with light modding, but never 100%.
There's a plethora of better games to remake too, I liked DS1-even as someone who virtually never played horror game-but I sure as shit would've never wanted a remake of it
I don't think it's the most unnecessary remake that came out, it does look remarkably nicer which is something a remaster wouldn't be able to do. There's some interesting changes to that change it up enough, it's mostly 1 to 1 but also not too. If you have the original thought, it's not worth amount even with the changes because the original holds up very nicely.

I loved the original, it was so good. When I played DS 2 and had to go back onto the ship it gave me anxiety. I’ll probably pick this game up too. But your right, $50 is a bit steep to play a remake, I mean moders remake games for free.
Where's this heavily modded Dead Space overhaul or "remake"? I understand where you're coming from but in this example, there are little to no mods for the game. Plus, even games with loads of mods still often aren't a full complete overhaul, never mind a "remake". Typically just a clashing mish-mash from various authors that strips away the original vision. Some modders even have the cheek to charge for mods.
Charging £50/70 (depending on the platform) is of course up for debate, but mac was incorrect "already got most of the voices". I belive they've remade everything including sounds.
No, modders are not "remaking the game" ;-)
This game uses another engine - so it's a proper Remake. Don't mix it with a Remaster - same engine but better meshes (3D objects) and materials (textures + shaders for them).

All charcater look worse than in the original, especially the female ones. They can now officially be called ugly. This bothers me personally.
And the game was blackwashed on top of it. Posters with white doctors are now black. Same goes for one or two NPCs. Right at the beginning in your crashing Space Ship, from white to black changed female NPC. Its racist against white people, and Gay NPCs and audio logs have been added to the game "woke".
Does it change the core gameplay? No. Does it make the game worse? Yes. Because it was not necessary, nor did any legit person ask for it!
What i mean to say is, it leaves a sour note in ones mouth. Especially if the game is this good. I guess we can't have allround good products anymore. There always have to be that one dish where someone spit on it. Now eat!
"Stop noticing" - moshe
I absolutely love watching you review a game that you thoroughly enjoyed playing! When Mac likes a game, you know it's damn good!
Ain't gonna lie. I happily pay 50 € for a good remake, because we don't get a lot of GOOD remakes.
my guess that toggle is for streamers because youtube and twitch has a tendency to strike people for gore fictional or otherwise
Checking out the Steam reviews, a lot of people seem to be having massive performance issues; probably due to Denuvo.
It had problems on my ps5 as well. Not nearly as polished as all the reviews are saying. I got soft locked 7 times, gas cans that wouldn't blow up, invincible enemies, missions failing for no reason after the game didn't even tell me I had that mission. i expected EA to fuck this up somehow, but it looks great!
Won't be buying full price because, as you say, that RRP is ridiculous, but I look forward to buying/playing it 18-24 months from now.
U don't have to wait that much. I reckon the game will be on a 30-50% sale in maybe 2-3 months. A majority of those who played the original will not pay 70€ for the remake, so the sale numbers will go down hard after the first month. They'll want to keep the cash flow steady, so they'll prefer to keep the game on sale. Same thing happened to Mass Effect Remake.

@Phendranaguardian the funniest part is this game takes place in a future where humanity is a space faring species but still didnt develop the technology to turn men into women or the opposite. LMAO
@Stormer248 the original game had the "capitalist hell" graffiti as well you absolute chud lmao
I just beat the game last night... One of the things I see no reviewers talk about is the Marker itself... The screen distortion effects, visuals and insanely high quality audio effects are next level... I couldn't imagine playing that section while being stoned... 👁👄👁
Absolutely how a remake should be done.
Remakes seemed to kick off after Halo CE got one, and for the most part they've been remakes of unnecessary games. This deserved one, and got the one it deserved.
Now for republic commando and crimson skies.
Bought it because of your recommendation. Never played the first. Love it. You are the best man.
I dont get it, its the same enemy at 1:54 as the one at 2:17?
Don't worry about it, not everyone gets things, am sure u will be fine.
So glad they did this right. They've kept the magic in it which the original had. The atmosphere in the original first Dead Space is incredible. Suspense and tension in bucket loads. Not only do many horror games lack that nowadays, but films too.
Awesome review, and for once, it's great to NOT hear you ranting 😅
Definitely agree about your gripe on the price though. It should have and could have been the change that the games industry needs, where games go back to being the same price as they were many years back. I mean, the games of yesteryear are better and they cost less. Go figure...
Also, if you have the original Dead Space on disc or steam etc, it would have been a lovely and thoughtful thing to do if you were able to get a huge discount for this new one. A thank you to the fans like. But nope. EA will be EA 😕🙄
Great review, Mack. Now I know what I want for my birthday
This one was a great review.
The scenes with no dialogue really hammered how atmospheric it is,
gun super punchy too.
This made my day, especially the part where you showed your Video off your stream 😂
I acually had so many bugs that I couldn't progress since the doors won't open. I had to re luanched the game multiple times on PC.
That replay made me laugh out loud. Thanks for that, Mack.
"The fckin hell, it changes!!" I'm howlin. 🤣
I’m glad this classic game re-make turned out great and EA didn’t find a way to screw it up. But what is sad is the fact that AAA developers are forced to go back and remake/remaster classics these days because they don’t have the ability or talent to create something like Dead Space on their own, even with all of the massive budgets. The golden era of gaming for me was from 1997 to about 2012 or so. Yes we’ve had some classics released in the last 10 years, but nothing like what we used to get back in the glory days.
2:25 brilliant
I’m so happy to get my hands back on the ripper! It’s my favourite sci fi weapon in any game. Just shred them mofos up, from the feet to the face and back down again!
Almost finished Calisto protocol. Which I'm enjoying. Got this one to play next. Looks good
Callisto looks brilliant on ps5 and never had a single glitch or bug with the game it ran and looked perfect from start to finish. Looked at a couple of reviews and comparing the graphics to callistos as well it looks a lot more dates compared to Callisto. Only problem I will admit about Callisto is it’s far too linear you can’t backtrack once you’ve passed into a new section
Writing on the wall at 8:11 says "and if you damn zombies have learned to read then to hell with you too" :)
