Not a true fan then - no the voice is not what it was - but you still have to admire the man - and be thankful we had him to bring these operas to life.
Why should he give up his passion and career because his voice changed, in part because all voices do, and in part because of his illness? That kind of artistry isn't a job, it's a life. Carreras has stuck true to himself and offered us decades of his art. If it doesn't please you, it's fine to listen to other artists, but not fine to recommend he stop.

Not painful to me. Every voice, every talent, every person changes. You can move on and listen to others, but not recommend that he stop.
